View Full Version : 3 gun rig
Thinking about doing some three gun, any suggestions on a good belt and outer belt for a person with a 43 inch belt size?

I (and most the guys I've shot with) run a CR Speed Belt. The inner/outer belt come as a set and once you've got it on, it's rock solid. I bought mine one size larger than my pants size and that was a perfect fit.
Pictures (albeit not the best) of my rig set up for 3 gun. It was a rather expedient gathering of mag pouches and such that I'm going to refine later on (upgrade to some better pistol mag pouches and 6-round shotgun shell holders):

I will also say that if you're just getting into it, you don't have to go out and drop a bunch of money on a new belt and high-end kit. I shot USPSA for about the first year with just a good sturdy belt (Wilderness Instructors belt) that I wore everyday. Just added the holster and mag pouches when I got to the range. My friend shot a major match in LA a couple months ago the same way. Get some matches under your belt (no pun intended) and find out what works or not for you. Don't be afraid to ask for opinions/tips/help from the guys that have been doing it for awhile either, all of the ones I've had the good fortune to shoot with have been more than helpful. :)

Check out the sticky thread about 1st line belt setups to get ideas if you wanna go the padded belt route....
I like the setup Cougar has. I need to get some of those shot shell holders..

i saw that thread but all of it seems to be duty and/or defense rigs.

The CRSpeed rig is a good choice if you want to use a two-piece belt. I have several, and like them a lot.
However... Shooting 3gun, you're probably going to be carrying a lot of stuff on that belt. I've seen people have their outer belt come apart from the inner belt, while shooting a stage. It's very funny to watch, not so much if it happens to you.
If you're going to use a two-piece belt, get some velcro keepers, and use them. Myself, I usually run a Wilderness CSM belt, with all my ammo/magazine carriers attached via clips or Tek-Loks.
The padded duty belts have always struck me as kind of cumbersome for the 3gun game. Some people like them, but they're not real popular.

Will MOLLE stuff go on the CR belt?

True, but I see some dudes roll in full Battle Rattle to a 3 gun stage.

I think you it would work or could be made to work. I haven't tried myself, but I think I've got a couple cheapo 5.11 pouches around I could check with.
CXS,
You laugh but when I shoot matches, wherever possible, I run my battle rattle. For me, its important that I train the way I fight (mil/leo). While my times are slower, etc. I dont care. Im getting the training value I need out of it. Not worried about what other folks think.

Not laughing bro.
I use the same rig I train with for my USPSA/CQB Matches.
One of the main reasons the TACO was developed, so I could use what ever weapon platform with the same rig. M1A, M4, AK, Saiga 12, ect...
The "rolly eyes" were probably not the best emoticon.
It was more for the cats rolling with Blackhawk Vests and UTG Drop leg holsters that they picked up at the Fun show to look cool while playing games.
There's a difference between that and actually translating the game into some sort of training.
But you have to be careful of what you take from the 3-Gun/IPSC/USPSA scene into the real world.
And I definitely wouldn't be laughing at Sinistral_Rifleman and the CAV ARMS crew for rocking out with their rigs while 3-Gunning.

I here you brother, no problems. I used to shoot IDPA and local tactical matches. Seeing folks wear thier thigh rigs at thier knee's or lower made me cringe. I would never say anything but when someone asked why I wore mine so high, I made sure to explain the reason for proper wear. I treat the games as what they are.. games. They only serve to keep my skill set in tune. Training is a whole seperate monster for me.
