View Full Version : Surefire 6P as a weaponlight?

How many of you guys have used the old Surefire 6P as a weapon light? Did it every cause a problem? I have been using one for the past three years with zero issues. It has been mounted in everything from KAC 1" mounts, Viking Tactic's mount, to my current home made "Gangsta Grip" light mount/Vert grip (Credit for the name goes to LF's "Basicload"). It has seen at least 10,000 rounds worth of wear & tear. I have been meaning to order the shock-isolated bezel for years, but now I'm curious to see just how long it will last.

the 6p was the first weapon mounted light i tried. the bulb did not last long with the original bezel. later i added the shock isolated bezel and from that point on, it was g.t.g. till i switched to another light later on.
shock isolated bezel is money well spent. i.m.h.o.

I agree on the shock-isolated bezel being a good buy. They are cheap and it is basically the same as a more expensive weapons light for a low price. I have one on my gun at home.
I have an extra aimpoint ring sitting around, I need to make a grip like that.

Seeing alot of G2s on cost conscious rifles...not a bad idea if you can't or won't spend more $ on the uber cool set-up. Again the shock isolated bulb is a good idea.

Many years ago, I realized that there was a need for quality, low cost lights for the everyday shooter. This is why I came out with the working man's weaponlights: http://www.gandrtactical.com/lights.htm

There is more to complete shock isolation than just the bezel/bulb.

There is, but I don't think it is needed. There is a certain tier 1 SF group that runs the SF 6P with NO shock isolation and they advise that they work just fine.

i agree.
after i installed the shock isolated bezel on the 6p, i later upgraded to an M2 combatlight that has a higher level of shock isolation. i beleive that both lights are the same output, 65 lumens. both lights were used for training purposes only.

I've used and seen others use a lot of G2's and 6P's without any problems on low recoiling weapons like 5.56 mm.
Mine has been excellent with absolutly no problems!

Thanks for posting this question, it's something I've been thinking about a 6P for a while.
Mine is made by TacStar. Scroll about 2/3 down the page and you will see it. You can find them cheaper if you do a search.

I've been running the G2 with the Z32 Shock/Isolated bezel now for well over 2 years with 4K plus rds thru it and it's on it's original Lamp.
That's enough for me to prove out the system as reliable on an AR platform.
No $250 dollar weapons light for me!!! just $250 of more ammo to shoot..;)

I have our entire SWAT team set up with a issued 6P for their primary white light, and a 6P mounted to their LE6920's. This makes logistics very easy as far as bulbs, batteries, switches and hard parts go. There are much better Surefire tactical lights out there, but the 6P system is very viable.

BTW yes I could buy a better set up!
But I wont ever use it! civi and use a handgun for home protection
Maybe if I stayed in my Old country home where I had alot of land and my own private shooting range!
Or if my Local range was open at night
so for now I will KISS
