View Full Version : Keeping dust cover pin in place with Larue handguards?
I recently intstalled a Larue handguard on my BCM upper receiver. As best as I can tell, there is nothing on the handguard that will keep the dust cover pin from sliding forward far enough to detach the rear of the dust cover. That is what happened on my first range session after the build. On standard AR handguards, the barrel lock ring sits close enough to the dust cover pin to prevent that pin from sliding forward.
I called Larue; they said to bend the pin so it makes contact with the lock ring, but I'm not sure I want to do that.
Has anyone experienced this same issue? Is there an easy solution that I'm not seeing?
Thanks.

My pins are more squared on the end than yours. The edge of the pins butt up against the threaded portion of the barrel nuts on the 3 Larue's I own. I am certain if enough pressure was applied to the end of the pin it could be bent around the barrel nut. I do not anticipate that amount of pressure being applied to the pin.
Pop a "C" clip on it and the flange of the clip will run interference on the lock ring.

Do you mean another C clip? There is one there now, but it is too far from the lock ring to help.
On that note, does anyone make that pin with C clips on both ends?
Odd, I've never had that problem on any of mine.
But I did run into to it with an AR-10 and one of their tubes, I put a small piece of heat shrink tubing on it to extend it and all was good again. It was barely noticeable and stayed on there with no problems.

Excellent idea! I would rather do that than bend the pin.
Thanks.
