Templar, old is relative, she's a young'un compared to the 8-shot Auto-5 I sold to bring her home. I was sad to let the Auto-5 go, but "nothing gets you over the last one like the next one". I figure I traded up to a younger, lighter, more athletic model. Of course these analogies are not spoken of around my wife!

That Sig/Benelli is a great combo. Have the same guns myself, Sig P228- HK/Benelli M1 Tactical. Is yours a P220 .45ACP? Love those and I am trying to find a good deal on one as soon as funds allow.
Yes, it's a P220, but I do have a P226 and P228 as well. How does your Benelli run with the light on. I tried my Nordic Comp. magclamp/light mount w/Surfie G2 on. It wouldn't run reliably with Federal 100 packs. I imagine it would with 00. I just put the light back on my 870. I really love having the "Ghost Load", takes practice but I'm getting good at it, my Nelli is an HK import too.
The Surefire light works great with buckshot, slugs etc. The Federal 100 pack ammo makes it slow operating and occasionally doesn't cycle completely. I just pull the light off and install the factory forearm and shoot all 100 rounds in a session to make it worth the effort. I hardly ever use slugs and keep it loaded with various buckshot sizes so repeated disassembly isn't an issue with losing ghost ring sight zero. The Poly-Choke on full setting keeps patterns pretty tight out to 40 yards or so.
I like the extra shell on the carrier as well and it was my decision maker for getting the HK model. I find that I can carry 8 rounds with chamber empty and chamber that round very quietly if need be or load to 9 rounds if time allows. I agree, It does take a little getting used to though. BTW, XS Sight Systems makes a Standard dot and Big dot tritium front sight that they apparently don't like to advertise but will sell over the phone, about $68. I tried the Meprolight setup on a friends M1 and they weren't really for me. To much bright blur on the rear and no real advantage in the daylight, the XS front (I got the standard dot) is very easy to see during the daylight. lol,I been wanting one since I was a teenager to, I'm 31 now and just got it 2 months ago. Bought one about 3 years ago but someone put a side saddle on it and pinched the receiver so it wouldn't work at all and had to return it for refund at the store.

Top: Express with Scattergun Tech follower, 18" Police, rifle-sighted barrel.
Bottom: Express with Scattergun Tech follower, mag spring, Trak-Loc sights, and Surefire 618FA.
I hope to further add slings, Vang Comp safeties, and Youth stocks to both as well as a +1 tube to the rifle sighted gun.

The optic I got on a nice guy discount, so no T-1.
I'm waiting on a Surefire Benelli rail, and then attaching a magpul AFG.
Glad you dig the setup though, hah, yeah that montage video was a blast (pun intended).
Madison, sorry that stock only works on the M4 as far as I know.

Does a Burris FastFire qualify as 'optics'? :)

Here's my 1100 with my Noveske N4 14.5
The 1100 has:
26" skeet barrel
+5 from Nordic Components
Barrel Clamp from Nordic Components
Dave's Metal Works Easyloader (high recommend this to any 1100 owner)
Mesa tactical sidesaddle
I highly recommend the easyloader. It makes it so much easier to load shells into the 1100. Also, I shortened mine which eliminated any thumb pinching.
I used it a couple weeks ago in a local tactical shotgun match and it performed great. I do wish that I had a barrel with chokes for it. I'll be using it at the Larue match in May and have heard that the Texas Star's they have setup there will need some tight chokes and fairly heavy shot.

Nice trench gun. Is that one of the Norinco repros, or an original? The buttstock is WWII, but the barrel/bayo lug configuration looks more WWI.

thanks, its a norinco repro. i actually have the original box for it and it says "from the trenches of world war 1". as much is would like an original the price is just too high.

Tell me about it. My dream is to one day get an original Model 12 trench gun, but they're just so much money.
How do you like the Norinco? Does it shoot well? I've been considering picking one up, but then I figured the bayonet would cost as much as the shotgun :)
my cheap ass side project build. most of the parts were trades so no real cost.

Nice. Norinco I believe? They make a nice reproduction. I want one to play at the range with.
Here is one a LITTLE bit older, Winchester M-1897 Trench Gun. Circa 1919. Had the stock replaced some time with a WWII era stock, and leather sling. Unfortunately, I don't have the bayonet...

Pretty simple stuff. 1187 Synthetic with Choate 8 shot extension, 22" Deer barrel with rifle sights, TLR, TacStar and butt cuff. Keep five #4 buck in the tube, chamber empty, four 3" 15 pellet 00 in the TacStar and five slugs in the butt cuff.

If your state allows Class III weapons, you would be able to get one.
There is NO SUCH THING as a Class 3 Weapon.
"Class 3" refers to a firearms dealer who has paid a special tax, called the "Special Occupational Tax" (SOT) to deal in machineguns and other National Firearms Act (NFA) weapons.
Machineguns, Sound suppressors, Short-Barrel Rifles and Shotguns, and Any Other Weapons (AOW) are all regulated and taxed under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) as amended by Title 2 of the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968.
Semi-auto and all other firearms except large-bore or explosive Destructive Devices are regulated under Title 1 of the Gun Control Act (GCA).
What most people mistakenly call Class 3 is properly referred to as NFA or Title 2 firearms.
A Class 3 SOT dealer is a dealer of NFA firearms
A Class 2 SOT manufacturer is a manufacturer of NFA firearms
A Class 1 SOT importer is an importer of NFA firearms
Type 1 FFL is a Title 1 dealer or gunsmith
Type 2 FFL is a Title 1 dealer doing business as a pawnbroker
Type 3 FFL is a licensed collector of Curio & Relic (C&R) firearms
Type 6 FFL is a licensed maker of ammunition and reloading components other than Armor Piercing ammunition
Type 7 FFL is a Title 1 manufacturer of firearms, ammunition and ammunition components other than NFA, Destructive Devices and Armor Piercing ammunition
Type 8 FFL is an importer of Title 1 firearms and ammunition
Type 9 FFL is a dealer in Title 1 firearms including NFA destructive devices, but no other NFA
Type 10 FFL is a manufacturer of Title 1 firearms, ammunition and ammunition components, including NFA Destructive Devices but no other NFA, and not including Armor Piercing ammunition
Type 11 FFL is an importer of Title 1 firearms, ammunition and NFA Destructive Devices, but no other NFA
To get a Class 3 SOT status, you need a dealer or manufacturer FFL which includes Type 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11 - and pay a yearly $500 tax due every July 1st.
To get a Class 2 SOT status, you need a manufacturer FFL, which includes Type 7, 10 - and pay a yearly $1000 or $500 (reduced rate for small manufacturers) tax due every July 1st.
To get a Class 1 SOT status, you need an importer FFL, which includes Type 8, 11- and pay a yearly $1000 or $500 (reduced rate for small importers) tax due every July 1st.
Hope this helps,
MCASSgt New River

First, let me start by saying that I truly appreciate all the great information shared here on M4C.net. I'm no LEO or military guy, but I do love guns, shooting and quality products (something I know you guys appreciate as well). So, thanks to all and Happy Memorial Day.
The Benelli M2 is wearing:
Dave's Metal Works tube extension (7 +1 capacity)
SureFire 617LF LED forend
Mesa Tactical side saddle
Nordic Components barrell clamp
How does it run with all that on it? I allways heard you could have either sidesadle or light not both..... Looks great! I almost wish I could put a comfortech on my M1.
donlapalma
06-01-10, 14:59
You know, I started off with the forend first and contemplated the side saddle for a good while because I heard the same thing about overall weight affecting the Inertia Driven system in the M2. However, I decided to go for it and see for myself. To date, I have had no issues wearing the forend and the side saddle. Note that I shoot mainly 00 buck and slugs, but have shot #7 birdshot through it without any issues. I do plan to do more testing with a much wider variety of ammo, shooting positions, etc. and I'd be happy to share the results on M4C.net when completed.
Lastly, the Comfortech stock does make a difference in my experience. I shot the Comfortech stock next to an 870 express with a standard stock and felt a noticeable difference.
Thanks, I hung aG2 w/shock bezel/clicker tailcap off the Nordic rail on mine and it jammed w/birdshot. Didn't try it w/buck though. Mine is and HK Import M1 with pistol grip stock.

It's a joke, I'm waiting on a Surefire M80 rail.

Thanks, Mr. Hart. The wood is actually from a Remington 870 Express. Factory buttstock and fore-end is black polymer.
Very nice laminations in the buttstock! Enjoy that little beast!

Thanks to Chris914 my Remington Police Magnum is ready to rock for the upcoming Rob Haught 2-Day Tactical Shotgun Class (Sept 25-26, 2010).
Since I know next to nothing about shotguns I kept it real simple;
- Blue Force Gear Vickers Tactical Sling
- Blue Force Gear Rem 870 stock sling adapter
- Wilson Combat 6-shell Side Saddle
- Chris914 installed extended safety.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/va_dinger/FORSALE002.jpg
Dinger,
You forgot to add lengthened forcing cone and shortened stock. The extended safety is a Vang that has been painted to show fire.
This is my little blaster. It started life as an 870 Express.
Upgrades include:
-Speed Feed green shortened LOP stock set with inset sling mount
-Blue Force Gear Vickers Tactical Padded Sling in Multi-cam
-Trijicon Tritium Ghost Ring Sights with front epoxied and pinned
-Scattergun Tech 6 shot Side Saddle
-Scattergun Tech plus 1 mag extension
-Vang extended safety
-870P Extractor
-870P Trigger Group
-Lengthened forcing cone
-Burnished and polished barrel for ease of cleaning
All work done by me.
Currently waiting on the ATF to process my form 1 so I can get that rifle sighted, Rem choked 14" barrel installed.

My backup gun for the Rob Haught shotgun class. Started as an 870 Express HD, it's worn many stocks, a couple of optics but I never really liked it. Until now.
Scattergun Tech tritium sights
Scattergun Tech +2 extension (stock Rem extension stuck past the end of the barrel, hated that)
Mesa side saddle (don't really like it but I'll give it a go)
Shortened stock, police foreend
Refinished with Alumnahyde 2 matte black
Lengthened forcing cone
Burnished barrel
Mildly slicked up internals
Vang safety
Milspec Monkey sticker :)
Rear sling attachment is one of those cuff-style things for adapting a 3 point to an A2 stock. I can swap my sling back and forth from my Benelli M1 to this very easily.
Chris914 did the barrel work. I put the sights on with his jig.

Just did a bit of an update on my old 870. It started out life as a blued 870 Magnum from the mid-'80's. I sent it off for Scattergun Tech's (before Wilson bought them) Remington Steal package about 12 years ago.
It's mainly just been a deer gun, as I always carried a patrol rifle when I was on the road. It looked at me with sad eyes the other day when I was poking around in my safe, so I decided to reward it for putting up with me all these years.

I really liked how the Mesa sidesaddle installs, feels real solid.
Loving the SF forend though it'll take quite sometime until I get a real feel for the momentary switch in order to not keep setting it off when I grip the forend (BAD, civvie negligent discharge) I'm thinking maybe of gluing a strip of velcro hook or loop to it for the distinctive feeling.
The Hogue stock is a nice fit for me but I'm pretty sure I'll be switching to a Speedfeed IV-S. That pistol grip feels alot faster and points just so much more natural.
As for the sling, I bought a VTAC padded 2 point but decided to go with a one point. I just didn't find it a good fit for me even with the buttstock adaptor.
I'll add pics when it's Arma-coated (Coyote Brown and Matte black scheme).
Nice 870. Check with Surefire, I believe they sell a kit that will partially cover the momentary switch to prevent unintentional light discharges.

They do: it is called the Z10 Switch Blocker. It is a metal strip with an adhesive back that covers about half of the switch. Your weaponlight should have come with one.

The last weaponlight I bought didn't come with one either. But that was years ago. When I ordered the one on that SBS I asked Kevin from Brightflashlights to throw one in on the order and he said that they come with them now. Saved me about $10 I think.
I like the blocker.

It may not look nice, but you don't buy a 590 for CDI points.
It will tone down with time and use and CLP. My old one kind of grey-ed out eventually. The pics above of my SBS have the same tint as yours.
It may not look nice, but you don't buy a 590 for CDI points.
This is true! She may not be pretty, but damn it if she don't get the job done!
At the end of the day, it's a shotgun. It's meant to put it's payload of slugs, buck or birdshot into minute-of-pie plate patterns at a dozen yards or so. I bought it for doing 3-gun but maybe I'll take it to the Trap range just to piss of the old Fudds with their $20,000 shotguns. :sarcastic:

Will do. A 2-3 month wait on the magazine extension tube, and I am waiting to see if a SF pops up for sale on a forum somewhere. Not in a huge rush to kit out this shotgun as more than anything it is just a fun gun and right now it is a TON of fun.

That folding stock looks like it is torture with those full power loads. Wicked cool shotty though.
OK, I have to ask, but what's up with the drum kit sitting right down range? lol Are you shooting in a recording studio or something?

LOL well it's the exact opposite: the son of the owner of that firing line is playing drums & guitars with his friends when we're not killing targets :sarcastic:

This boom stick started out as a stock plain jane police model shotgun that I purchased from a police officer for next to nothing. I added a Vang Comp safety, Mesa Tactical shell holder, VTAC Sling with buttstock adapter, Remington Trap sear spring, Surefire Fore End, Trijicon Night Sights, magazine tube extension and the barrel was worked by Vang Comp.

thats one sexy boomstick!
Not completely finished yet, but got to take it out and shoot it a bit today and its killin me not to share, so figured I'd post up a couple pics and a brief overview.
Always wanted an Ithaca Mag 10 Roadblocker. Still do. Somewhere about 12 to 15 years ago a buddy says, "man, if you buy that big Ithaca you'll never be able to shoot it as you wont be able to afford the ammo... what you need is a 3½ inch 12ga." Worked at a big sporting goods store, so on the employee Christmas shopping night (25% off retail) I got this Remington 870 Express Super Mag.
I had the original barrel cut to 19-inches and added a Wilson/Scattergun +2 and all was good for years. Shot skeet for several years with it, probably has several thousand rounds through it thus far.
About a year or so ago, I got bit by the shotgun bug real bad. Started reading a lot of different books on shotguns and looking at way too much shotgun porn. Reading some zombie fiction and also some different accounts of the Marines in the South Pacific during World War Two. I came up with my twisted little idea I've got here. Bit longer barrel than a trench-gun, big magazine, rifle sights and of course has to be the 3½ inch.
Got the barrel off a second 870 Super Mag (to one day be Dreadnought No. 2), it is 23-inches long and has factory Remington rifle sights. Got the extended magazine tube from Tactical Ordnance out of Canada, it was custom cut to match up with the barrel. Clark magazine clamp. Got some new wood off ePay and sweet talked a friend into refinishing it, he's a slut and he's cheap. Got it all parkerized by another local guy. Gun uses a standard Rem Choke and has a MOD variant in there right now.
Sights are coming from Remington.
It's a big shotgun to be sure. A tad on the heavy side. Will shoot everything from the cheap Wal-Mart low brass crap loads to 3½ inch 00 Buck (18 pellets moving out in a hurry). I figure it'd be good for zombies and such and looks kinda cool too.

This front sight and the 870 under it will be turned into a check for the NRA/ILA in the next few weeks. I'll make sure and post it here when it's done and available.... just waiting on a new stock and fore end. This is sort of a side-project of LTW...... a supporter gave us the shotgun and said "do something for LTW or one of your beneficiaries".

Hi Jeff,
If you do not mind me asking, how do you like the new LED Surefire compared to the incan units you have used in the past?
I have a Surefire 618 on my 870, and have been debating one of the newer LED's, to get the longer run time.
Thanks very much, and stay safe.

Looks awesome. Very similar to what mine is starting to look like. Only suggestion I'd make is to put the T-1 on a QD mount of some sort so that if/when it goes down, you can get it off the gun and go back to your irons (since you can't get an iron sight co-witness with the factory T-1 mount). I've got my T-1 on a LaRue LT-661 Short mount.
Hey Jeff:
Re: the 870, trap sear? what is the deal. What improvement does this make on the 870. Heck i own two, i forget to pump them, just ask GOTM4. But i love me an upgrade.
Thanks

I really like the LED that's on my shotty because it's shorter (going to a shorter barrel soon), has a longer battery life and it seems brighter. Also the one that's on that gun runs on just one battery.

Matt I like the trap sear spring because it smooths the feel of the trigger which in turn makes it feel a little lighter.
Matt I believe this is the part from Brownells (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=10669/Product/SEAR_SPRING__LIGHT_PULL).

With no sights whatsoever? OK...I guess if that works for you. But you're looking at potentially a lot of collateral damage there. Me, I'd rather have the option of sighted fire. I mean...the iron sights are already there, why not make them accessible by making the T-1 QD? Just my $0.02. YMMV.

I finally have my Benelli M1 Super 90 pretty much where I want it.
I have added:
*Benelli factory extension giving me 7+1+1(ghost load) in an 18.5" barrel.
*Surefire forend with Cree LED conversion bulb.
*Mesa Tactical 6 round side saddle.
*Wolf 25% extra power spring, now it eats EVERYTHING I feed it.
*Swapped out the pistol grip for a field stock. Haven't decided which way I will run it yet. Still training with both.
*Painted the front sight orange ;)
I would still like to add:
*Nordic components charging handle
*Barrel/mag clamp
*Sling, but I can't decide if I want to run my single point sling or have a dedicated two point on it... suggestions?
*I will most likely Cerakote it at some point.

Tell me about that Mesa side saddle. I had the Tac Star and was thoroughly unimpressed. I've looked at adding the Surefire more than once, but can't figure out why they didn't make it the same length as the stock handguard.

It is a good unit. I have the four shell holder on my 870 and really like it. It takes up a bit less space than the tac star units and is probably a bit more durable because it's not made out of plastic. That being said, tac star has a four round saddle as well, and I ran their 6 round units on all of our patrol gun and never had a problem. The tac star is cheaper if that makes any difference to you.

I'm afraid it's not a prank, if that's what you mean.
The gun alone is already 8 lbs w/o all the upgrades. The rail is only 1 and 1/3'rd lbs. Overall, this beast weighs 11 lbs.
I've already taken shotgun classes before, but I'd happily take this thing if I was to take another class.
I don't know if I have ever seen a Killflash on a shotgun before. Are you not concerned with your flashlight reflecting light and giving away your position?

Nicely done ADK! Beautiful shotgun.
Thanks. Hopefully this is the final configuration. The hogue stock I had on originally was real nice but a pistol grip just feels so much better.
So I've had a Saiga-12 for a while now. It wasn't reliable right out of the box: failures to feed due to shells getting hung up on the way in. I cleaned up all the internals and got it to run well, then proceeded to de-neuter it. Moved the trigger back to where it's supposed to go and TIG'ed up the old fire control holes. It's not really a "go-to" weapon, but it now runs reliably and I'd trust it if it was all that was available.

Yeah. I did some reading and I guess one of the main differences is the FF II is supposed to be more water resistant the the original FF. I've used it at the Pro-Am at USSA in Tulsa and plan on using it all next year for 3 gun. Its going to put me in Open class but I really don't care that much.

I really would like one or two of those, sans the porting
and a lefty shooter also
This was a old 870 gun I used as a back up for duck hunting. in case my semi malfed or a friend needed it. she hadn't seen daylight in about 6 years. I pulled it out of the case and due to my neglect she was covered in rust. I sent it out to be refinished and turned her tactical. sorry for the bad pics.

one old rusty 870 Magnum sand blasted & parkerized, 18.5" police barrel w/ LPI front sight, KAC rail w/ LPI rear sight, TS870 stock adapter w/ single point sling attachment, EBR stock, Ergo grip, Speedfeed foregrip, Remington mag extension and over sized safety. all I need now is some nice weather so I can take it outside and melt the barrel:laugh:
I may Vang Comp the Barrel and add a Reflex sight.
thanks go out to J.D. over at AI&P for doing one hell of a parkerizing job. also thanks to Steve at Rose Action Sports for the great work on the front sight. and a very special thanks to Claude Wright at CW Shooters for doing such a horrible parkerizing job and mounting the front sight crooked that I needed to send it to J.D. & Steve to be redone.

Just got this in on trade from the police chief. Was too heavy for his wife to handle. This gun is near new condition. Very faint wear marks from the fore end. Came with a cheap light, three chokes, and both stocks (shoulder and PGO). Traded him this gun for a Remington 870 youth 20ga. She loves it. Now I have to order the Magpul Shotgun DVD and get some range time with this thing.

they used to have just a big lever. they were know to miss fire when the safety was switched off. I've never had it happen with mine, but you're ok with you set up.

This is the first one I've seen in person so I'm new to this. I did do a transfer on a Franchi LAW12 that had a similar setup. This is the first SPAS12 I've seen in person. I love the switchable pump to semi auto on it. I think Benelli had/has one that did/does that but I'm unsure. Most of my shotgun experience has been with Remington 870s.

Is that the factory Modified Choke 14"? I had heard that they were not good with the Federal Flight Control, but, I would say your barrel is just dandy...

What kind of shells are you running w/light? Can you still practice with Wally World shells? I'm seriously considering picking up one of his mounts to run a G2 on my 14" M1.

Awesome little shottie. What is the barrel length and magazine capacity?

I haven't actually shot it with the light mounted yet......it's been like Antarctica here. If your gun cycles okay with the powder puff stuff now and isn't too marginal on ejection it *ought* to work with the light too. I doubt that would be enough weight to slow it down enough to make it stop working, but I'm just guessing. I know mine works fine without the light but the Benellis seem to be different enough that what works on one may not on another.
I can say that the mount is *really* nice. Top quality stuff.
Mine with the 18.5 barrel, Nordic clamp, rail, mount and G2 kills the guns ability to eject light loads. However I figure you're set-up has to be much lighter. As it has fewer separate pieces(no rail/no mount).
I spotted a vintage 1974 Ithaca model 37 at a local shop. It looked like it had the potential for a new "Home Defender," so I did the paper work and took it home.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e305/smedley_01/Ithaca37Project1.jpg
After much elbow grease, and a few more dollars, my hopes were realized with the finished product.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e305/smedley_01/Ithaca37Project4.jpg
Also, I've read much banter about the so called "Slam-Fire" capability of early model 37's.
The so-called "trigger Disconnector" feature.
From my examination the Hammer is tripped while going into battery by a secondary sear on the slide stop.
So wouldn't that make it a slide stop disconnector?
Cheers!

Hey guys. First time posting on the shotgun side.
Got a new one for Xmas. Went out hunting with it that following Monday and Tuesday with my Pops. Dove and Quail. For only have a 20 inch barrel she performed better than I expected. Grew up shooting my dad's 28 inch Mossberg, so pretty familiar with them.

The ATI stock turned out to be very comfortable. Did some testing with all sorts of ammo i stocked up on. Buck, slugs, and was very comfortable to shoot.

Thanks guys.
