Gun is a late 90's H&K import, i run it pretty plane jane only thing not stock is the extended bolt handle and i use a OSOE 12 guage Micro Rig. Thanks.

I've been looking for a Tri-rail Handguard. Mississippi Auto Arms say they make one for the Tromix. I gave them the measurements from the receiver to the center of the whole for the screw on the shorty handguards. Hopefully they will come up with something.
Unless you know where I can find one. Or I might have to modify one to fit.

My only shotgun, a Mossberg 500. I bought one of the combos that came with a 28" and 18.5" barrel. I switched out the forend, trigger and safety for the 590A1 parts, put in a high visibility follower, and put on Hogue stock and grip. I mostly use it with the long barrel for shooting clays.

First shotgun purchase. Bought it off a coworkers dad for $225, all it needed was a nice field strip and cleaning.

Cleaned it last sunday and took it trap shooting the next day and performed flawlessly.

Already have a Wilson Combat +2 extension, Mesa Tactical 6 Shell Side Saddle, WC Jumbo Safety, and Factory Black Polymer Police Stock and Forend ordered for it. Going to get the new Magpul forend when they are released but needed to replace the current wood so the side saddle would fit.

This will be turned into my main HD gun. Will keep the barrel stock for now until I get some extra funds for an 18" barrel.

This shotty was a college graduation gift from my dad.
Original barrel was not in the best shape after 5k rounds and many hunts in salt water-soaked duck blinds. So I bought a new barrel, and I got the original one, seen here, cut down to 12" and NFA stamped as SBS.

Here is a pic of my Rem 870 Police Magnum that I warmed over ever so slightly. I removed the Speedfeed stock and forearm and replaced them with a Hogue overmolded set. I added the Mesa Tactical side saddle as well as the CDM Gear flashlight mount and the Streamlight TLR-1 light. I also added an XS Sights Big Dot front sight that I JB Welded over the factory bead sight. To top it off I added a GG&G Jumbo Head safety...The gun was previously owned by the Nebraska State Police...

- Dual-Illum. Trijicon RMR w/ 9MOA Dot on ADM Mount
- Benelli Factory Collapsible Stock
- Benelli Factory +2 Magazine Tube Extension

Probably gonna get a Blue Force Gear padded sling, and I'm still looking at my options for mounting a SureFire X300. Seriously looking at the BLAM4 mount.

Went with the 9 MOA dot because I wanted a good mixture of dot visability vs. precision to place slugs. I feel did very well with the 9 MOA, and I feel its a good compromise for putting buckshot quickly on target up close, and slugs accurately on target at 50 meters or so. Was leaning strongly to the 13 MOA dot, until I saw how freaking huge it was in person.

I like the idea of the KSG. What do you think of it so far?

I think it's a cool gun to add to the collection. Definitely makes an awesome home defense gun.

Some things I don't like. I don't like the plastic accessory rail on the bottom of the handguard. I don't think it's standard picatinny. I cannot get my tango down stubby grip to slide onto the rail, however any vertical grip that uses a clamp on attachment works. I don't like how the shells eject downward because they were constantly hitting the top of my forearm and got a little annoying after a box of shells. Finally, the butt stock could use a more substantial rubber pad. It's a hard piece of rubber and you definitely know you are shooting a 12 gauge bull pup, hah... Maybe I just need to man up?!

Pros...I like how short and maneuverable the KSG is. It feels like i'm wielding an SBR (or SBS in this case) even though it's not. The capacity is killer and everyone that shoots it goes thru rounds like crazy! Ergonomics is good, and I had no problems or issues with switching over to different tubes. The safety seemed backwards to me compared to other shotguns. (you push the button in with your thumb to go to Fire vs. using your trigger finger) I guess that is just a training issue... Accuracy was great, although I haven't tried slugs yet.

Honestly, I would never pay over MSRP for the thing. Fortunately, I paid $80 under that. And even then, I think the street price should be lower than that once more hit the market.

I am still pleased with my purchase and I think after I get some more trigger time I will like it even more.

hmmm. That's kind of apples and oranges. I've seen some crazy insane price gouging on the KSG. I saw one shop in my area selling one for $2 grand. I would definitely take the M4 for that price!

But you have to figure the dealer price on a KSG is in the mid to high $500 range. The two guns are not even in the same playing field.

I do plan on getting a M4 SBS though. ;)

08-07-12, 23:48

Just to see how it felt, I took my EOTech off my AR-15 and put it on the shotty. It sat a little too high for me. So, other than EOTechs, what are some good shotgun optics?

It's the Tacstar side saddle for the M870. Got it test run today with the 3M Automotive double side tape to it and it holds up to 256 round from today alone so far and still stick solid on there. You probably don't want to see the first variation of the ghetto-rigging I did on there before I change out the pump action slider.

Here's mine! 500c 20GA

Got it in the condition shown in the first picture, had issues cycling but was still somewhat reliable. I bought a new elevator and a few other internals and got it all cleaned up, two cans of Krylon later and I have a fun little scatter gun. Not so much for anything other than to keep around the house and shoot for fun. I figure it should at least give me time to get to my AR and/or Glock if I ever need it to! I really like the 20GA in the pistol grip only configuration because it still has a good bit of power, but I can easily shoot it one handed or from the hip if need be.

Cesiumsponge is that a IWC handstop you have mounted to the Surefire forend? That seems like a very good idea, does it assist with cycling? Thanks

Cesiumsponge
10-17-12, 11:37
Yep, IWC handstop. I milled a pocket in the underside for the t-nut to clear the fore end assembly and it required a longer screw to affix. The radii aren't a perfect cosmetic match but one or the other can be trimmed to get a nicer looking install. It doesn't really aid if you have a good purhase on the shucking but theoretically it should help if your grip gets slippery from rain, sweat, or blood. The rubbery panel Surefire uses doesn't provide a lot of purchase compared to the heavily textured or ribbed synthetic units.

It certainly doesn't get in the way. I'm looking forward to running it next year in a shotgun course to see how it handles.

Very interesting, yeah it does seem like it would have positive benefits when having to cycle the action under extreme circumstances. It kind of reminds me of the ledge on certain handgun sights that's used to manipulate the slide if your other arm becomes disabled.

That was a very innovative idea, don't be surprised in a year's time if one of the manufacturers picks up the idea. Patent it now, lol.

Here is an 870 Express 28" I have had since I was 14. This shotgun is almost 20 years old and has bounced around the "duck-boat" every year for 18+ years. I stripped it down (what was left of the original factory finish) and recoated the barrel and receiver in Cerakote's "Burnt Bronze" / bolt in "Graphite Black". After refinishing I replaced the beat-up, old wood furniture with the Magpul SGA & MOE furniture in black and tossed on a "Tru-Glow" fiber optic front bead sight. No more rust and a lot lighter.

Thanks!

I had a Speedfeed youth stock on this SG for a long time, which I very much liked. However, the matt black stock/polished blue metal combo always irked me and several times I was going to have the metal bead blasted and reblued. Though the Speedfeed stock is easier to grip and hold on to, I'm glad I had the original stock shortened (same LOP as the Speedfeed) and went that route instead.

This 11-87 cycles the Federal LE/PD132 "reduced recoil" load (00 buck, 9 pellets at 1145 fps) perfectly and shoots the full power Federal P127RS one ounce slugs to POA at 50 yards into 3 inch groups. These are my go-to loads for this gun. This is a pressure compensated barrel, so 3-inch loads can be used too (though I have no practical use for them in this gun).

Interestingly, with a barrel seal activator (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/334460/remington-barrel-seal-activator-remington-11-87-12-gauge-super-magnum) installed, it will also cycle the lighter LE133 loads (8 pellets at 1145 fps). Even though they have been 100% reliable, they do not cycle the action as briskly therefore I would not use them for a HD application. Since the LE/PD132 loads work perfectly and are very comfortable to shoot, there's really no need for the 8-pellet load anyway so I run the SG without the activator.

Thanks for taking a look and commenting!

My friends, Molot Vepr-12 arrived to me today at my local gun shop. Thoroughly impressed to say the least. Puts my Saiga-12 to shame in the looks department. Taking her out to the range tomorrow and I have a good hunch it will shot a whole hell of a lot better than my S12. Round of applause to Atnaltic Firearms for making this a possibility. I bought a bone stock 870 Tactical at a pawn shop last month for $215 out the door. My wife and family came through on Christmas with some goodies for it... Magpul Stock Set, Magpul Sling mount, Mesa side saddle, and a XS big dot which works AMAZINGLY WELL on this model. I love a bead on a scattergun but this one is simply perfect for this gun. After selling the oem stock set, I am in this one for a grand total of $170 :D

All the mods took about 35 minutes total, but totally transformed this old beater. I'll add a simple sling and some sort of a light once I figure out which model I want to run and how. I might take advantage of the MOE mount for a Scout light, but I might try to keep it on the cheap with a Steamlight or G2 up front.

Reposting after some changes. 1970's Sacramento PD 870 I picked up for a song. Finish was beyond gone so I had Mac's Shootin Irons do gunkote over parkerizing. Later found a rifle sighted tritium barrel for it and picked up some wood furniture. Wilsons +1 extension on the end.

Not the guy you asked, but I have run about 600 rounds through my 870 with the SGA stock. I love it. Recoil absorption is good and the angle my hand is at feels like it's in between a pistol grip angle and the field stock angle.

I also like the forend because I can use the same light and mount setup from IWC that I run on my sbr.

That's why I've been interested with that stock is because of that feature. The pistol grip/less stock. It looks super comfy, but I don't know if it will actually replace the pistol grip feel comfortably.

Terrible photo, but I've really enjoyed the SGA stock on my 14" Fabarm:

I've been playing around with my Beretta Extrema 2. I added a Briley 10-shot mag extension and a few other bits. I'm planning on running it in 3-gun / multi gun shoots this year plus I can still use it for clays / hunting (the mag extension pops of pretty quick).

Group Shot

The 11-87P is a new acquisition (NIB), somehow surviving the ongoing mass gun buying run of the last month. As I pondered how/why it was not yet sold, I decided to buy it myself.

One of the things that sold me on the Extrema was the ability to shoot 3.5" shells... They are perfect for zombies

I've been looking at those stocks. How do you like it?

It's a terrific stock. I love the "feel" of it. Its even shorter than a Houge youth stock. It really lets you square up on the shotgun, and allows me to shoot it more like my carbine. Fit and finish are awesome, install was brainless, and the recoil pad is excellent. The modular design for length of pull and the height of the cheek-rest... yup, Magpul's on top of the butt-stock game for a reason.

The forend is the same, it is easy to hold and manipulate the weapon. The ridges on the forend align perfectly for traction between your fingers. That and it accepts the wide variety of MOE accessories makes it a good choice for flexibility. It also included the removal/install tool which is awesome on a $25 part.

So far I love it. Only things I might change are adding a little grip tape between the finger "lugs" on the forend for working the gun with gloves on (I do this on my scatter guns and love it). I might also add a QD cup onto the butt-stock since I have an extra laying around and it fits with other slings I have already.

That looks like the esstac shotgun card. You can get industrial strength velcro with a sticky back in the cloth section of walmart.

Sorry no pics

It's actually an R1. Midway USA had a killer sale on them sometime ago so I purchased two of them. One for my daughters turkey gun and one for mine. It was Cerakoted to blend in.

I have a Benelli SBE that I have had for about sixteen years and wouldn't take anything for it as it has given a lot of turkeys a dirt nap. I purchased the one above earlier this year and really like but not as good as my SBE.
