Here is my latest project, all complete. I performed all of the gunsmithing and refinishing myself. This one is in Cerakote's "Tactical Gray" and "Graphite Black". Some projects are best just left simple.

Details:

Remington 11-87P, factory equipped with a Scattergun ghost ring rear and XS Standard Dot front. I replaced the Standard Dot with a tritium Standard Dot.

3GunGear.com side saddle.

Vang Dome Safety

Dave's Metal Works tactical bolt handle

Shortened the factory stock by an inch and ground the recoil pad to fit.

Streamlight TLR-1 on a Streamlight mount.

I bought a bone stock 870 Tactical at a pawn shop last month for $215 out the door. My wife and family came through on Christmas with some goodies for it... Magpul Stock Set, Magpul Sling mount, Mesa side saddle, and a XS big dot which works AMAZINGLY WELL on this model. I love a bead on a scattergun but this one is simply perfect for this gun. After selling the oem stock set, I am in this one for a grand total of $170 :D

All the mods took about 35 minutes total, but totally transformed this old beater. I'll add a simple sling and some sort of a light once I figure out which model I want to run and how. I might take advantage of the MOE mount for a Scout light, but I might try to keep it on the cheap with a Steamlight or G2 up front.

Please tell me more about what type of sling you are running.
I see the hook loop attachment at the back, and then what appears to be a standard swivel in front.....:confused:

heres my remington 870 tactical. magpul fde furniture and fde cerakote. looking for a side saddle, sling, and magpul sling mounts. hopefully the demand will die down soon so i can make my purchase!

What do you do with a single-barrel H&R 12 ga w/30" bbl that sits around unused and unloved? Break out the saw...

I saw where another guy did this, and thought 'why not?' With the bbl at 18.5", it makes the gun handle completely different. It went from cumbersome to awesome! It's not as practical as a standard pump gun, but until 590s or 870Ps start showing up (at not ungodly prices) again, it'll do.

I love mine. Its in my price range, it goes bang, and its just plain fun to shoot. I do like that I can open the chamber, hold down the bolt catch and empty the mag tube.

I do like the sights and being a lefty, having a receiver mounted safety is easy for me to manipulate.

I just got my 870 back from Vang Comp yesterday and so far, it's light years different than it was a couple months ago. The blaster started out as a 1987-made Express with the metal trigger guard, no J-lock, forged extractor, and an undimpled mag tube. The finish was heavily worn and the stock showed the dents/wear you'd expect from a 25 y/o beater hunting gun. I stuck on a Vang large-button safety, chopped the barrel down to 18.5", removed the vent rib, and swapped out the furniture for Magpul stuff before shipping it to VC to get sights installed and their barrel mojo performed. Once it warms up some (it's 15 deg. and snowing right now), I'll be at the range to pattern it with 00 and see how close the sights are for both shot and slugs.

Tornado---- how do you like the VCAS from stock to the clamp? I have a VCAS padded and I do not know how I want to mount the sling. I have the Magpul SGA stock though. Still end to end like that. Is the sling 2 small would you go with the Magpul sling? Depending on what works I will buy the mounts needed.

I never ran my Vickers stock. From the get go I wanted a padded MS 2. I have all the Magpul Hardware on a Vickers padded sling. It is adjustable and I can lengthen it out if need be.

What kind of details?
Base gun is a Mossberg Tactical Cruiser. Hogue short LOP stock, TriRail forend, Micro red dot that cowitnesses with ghost ring irons. Beveled loading port. Some minor tweaks that allow Slug select manipulations to be done without loosing a round from the tube. I can give more details on specifics.
What would you like to know?

Personally, I'd like to know more about why you set your pump up the way you did with the shells forward of your hand, and what you did to allow your "slug select manipulations" to be done.

I think its a fantastic looking shotgun with some one of a kind setups.

Love the Short 590s.

Here is a regular, run of the mill, Rem 870 Police Magnum with 14" Remington factory low profile (XS Sights) rifle sight barrel, Mesa Tactical 6-round side saddle, Hogue Short LOP overmolded stock, Surefire 318 LMF forend, Wilson Scattergun +1 mag extension, Federal Flite-Control 00 Buck, and Federal Tru-ball slugs.

Not as cool as the previous, but, pretty handy in my opinion.

This is my 870. Came with the tactical choke, and tube extender installed from the factory. It also came with a Tac Star pistol grip, and fore grip set that I tossed out ASAP. The sights are Trijicon ghost ring sights that I got from Brownell's. I bought the LEO stock adapter, grip, and buffer tube separately, because it was cheaper to do it that way. I used a LaRue RAT stock, because I wanted something different than the run of the mill M4 stock.

I never got the chance to play with the M1014 when I was in, but dreamed of owning one since I first saw them back in 04-05.

I havent had a chance to shoot anything through it but cheap Noblesport 00. I bought 250 rds of it from SGAmmo a while back to serve as break in ammo. Ive only had the M4 in my possession for a few days so it will take me a few range sessions to comfortably make it through that 250rds.

My Super 90 tricked out for 3 Gun along with the other gear. Even have some 2" shells, home grown, in there. It has brought home a bit of Au over the years and killed a ton of pheasants.

Aluminum speed loader hooks, ported barrel and custom Briley chokes.

There's probably some barrel shadow, but it doesn't really bother me. This setup really work great because the light moves with the slide so your thumb is always on the switch.

Literally watching epoxy cure on the xs big dot sight.

I taped the sight on before I epoxied it to see how I would like it. It seems great, easy to pick up with a little ambient light. The tritium isn't as useful as I thought it would be, but its better than nothing.

My Rem 870 is my all purpose Tactical shotgun. I have 3 Stocks and 3 Barrels. This is my primary HD weapon
I have added a GG+G Follower and a Wolff HD Spring, a non-MIM extracter, a Streamlight Light and i have a Fab Defense, Mesa Tactical and Magpul Stocks for dif reasons and situations.
I also mounted a Mesa tactical 6 rd sidesaddle/5" rail combo, and have +2 and +3 mag ext.s that i use with the dif size barrels.
It feeds and shoots perfectly, Rem 870's are definitely "Working Shotguns".
I returned the cheap relflex sight 5 days after buying and trying it out, was a pos!

Well, i can't afford an EoTech, or Aimpoint right now. I saw this on Midway. It's a Truglo Triton 30mm that's pretty accurate, and very shockproof (withstands up to 1,000 G's of shock). So a paid about 100 bucks and gave it a try. It came more or less sighted in, and i can still shoot with both eyes open. It's actually a good sight system, but you have a point, standard shotgun sights are preferable to cheap optics.
The cheap reflex/red dot pictured in the shot with my Magpul Stock and 20" RS barrel was returned after 5 days, it was a real POS.

Never fired (by me) Winchester 1300 Defender. Prior owner shot probably 20 shells lol.

I was looking for a Speedfeed birdshead grip but they discontinued it before I chose to get one :suicide2: .

Another poster suggested making one out of a wood stock. I had thought of that as well. But, what can I say, the shotgun is 14th on a 10 place list.

2 3/4 only. It was pretty rough so I refinished it in some cerakote I had left over. Its without a doubt the slickest 870 I have ever felt.

Initially I thought that the sling would obstruct the light but as you can see there is minimal shadow. The light is very natural to use and is a good index for my thumb. The momentary only function is what I wanted for the shotgun. K.I.S.S.

this thing is well built and looks good on the gun. I wish it was available in a 5 or 6 round configuration. It was too long for my stock with no LOP pieces. I added 2 and it fits a lot better. With all 7 shells loaded it pushes on the bottom of my wrist and alters my grip. I am running it with 6 shells to mitigate this problem. The soft Velcro on the straps hasn't been a problem yet and I use it to index my cheek on the stock. A 5 round version would have been perfect for the SGA.

I am not sure why the Arch Angel sets are not more popular. It's a very well made and sturdy stock and the fore end rail can be removed and replaced with a smooth cap.

bought this older 870P at a decent price.

internals show hardly any use....outside showed some poor maintenance. Not worried about it though.

put a VangComp Big Safety
extended tube (6shot)
cut an 870P wood to 12" LOP
MP MOE forend with IWC mount holding a Eagle Tac T100C2
velcro attachment side saddle
did a little painting on the stock (Brownells grit spray on the grip) and forend (Grip tape and painted over)....they dont match....not painted at the same time and the light came off another project....so it dont match either.

now I just have to figure out where and what to mount on the stock for a carry sling.

and down the road...if I ever quite spending money on handguns....rail on the receiver and a Aimpoint H1.

A somewhat rare Browning BPS in 12 Gauge. Came from factory with a 20 inch barrel and full length magazine tube. Browning later stated that BATFE told them that it was a no-no since they were being brought in from Japan (Miroku makes guns form Browning). Very light weight and handy plain jane HD shotgun. Smooth as silk and a blast at the range.

My FN SLP; got a discontinued TacStar Side Saddle for it along with the FN Tri-Rail. Those rails are hard to find and I lucked out snagging one at the NRA Show in Charlotte NC back in 2011. Also replaced the factory bolt handle with a Nordic Components one. Love this shotgun.

A no frills New England Firearms Model P in 20 Gauge. Got it when I was 7 years old as a Christmas gift from my Father. Will keep it until I have kids, then it'll be theirs. The stock is so small I had to put a slip on recoil pad to extend the length of pull so it fits me better as an adult.

A Remington 870 Express Magnum HD that I bought fresh out of the Army back in 2005. Replaced the factory stock with a Remington youth length butt stock with a R3 Limbsaver pad and the Surefire Forend. GG&G sling points and a side saddle. She served five years in my patrol car until retired upon becoming a State Cop. My current agency does not allow privately owned long guns.

Just got home from swapping for this Model 1897 Riot Gun made in 1919. It's been re-blued, but looks decent and slam-fires great as my shoulder can attest. I believe my trench gun in Viet was a model 12, but may have been a '97 as we had several other WW2 holdovers available. With my bad night vision I preferred the shotgun for perimeter patrol after dark.

For perspective the radio in the photo is two years newer. Amazing how primitive the design of some things can appear while others eternally
look good.

Benelli M2 Tac (922r compliant), 7+1 with Mesa rail, GG&G sling - light mount (I have an X300 with goes between it and an AR), just put the H-1 on there as well. Need some Esstac cards for the side. I tried Mesas pistol grip stock and it just didn't work for me, much prefer the standard stock, although if it were an inch or two shorter it would be perfect.

Mossberg 590A1 SBS, bought it as an LEO trade in about 4 years ago. Probably gonna try Magpuls stock, as I like it on my friends 870.

After a lot of years of duck/pheasant/goose hunting with longer shotguns, I decided to get a smaller tactical shotgun. I got this Mossberg 500 tactical, and it also has a spare 28" hunting barrel that I can swap out really easy when I want to hunt with it.

I have a 4 shell sidesaddle that will go on the side when it arrives, and so far it seems like a great little gun for the price, especially with the extra hunting barrel.

It's the Wilson, it just use paint to make it pop. Base coat of white, then orange. Razor blade off the excess.

I have been thinking about setting up my 870 with an AR back end.

Can you tell me if there are any real shootability changes comparing traditional 870 stock to AR style?

Is the stock in the shortest position hard to shoot or does the pistol grip change all that up?

The feeling is definitely different, though I lack the eloquence to properly describe the difference. I wouldn't say it loses any shootability, and for me I kinda like that it has somewhat of a similar feel to my rifle (grip and stock). The easily adjustable lop is really nice too, and with the stock collapsed all the way it is still comfortable, though you feel the front edge of the moe stock. The ctr did not work well since the front is lower due to having the friction lock. I prefer it over the regular factory stock, although at some point I may try our the Magpul SGA to see how that feels.

Finished this one up the other day, I would up with it basically for free through a few trade deals.

It's a 70ish sears m200 12g. Was very rough, rusty and about 12 layers of paint. Went through cleaned and re finished everything. Cut down to 20" and cerakoted it in graphite black.

Figured with only about $40 I have in it, it would serve as a good truck gun.2227322274

I had a chance to fire 3" Federal TruBall and 3" Brenneke Black Magic slugs. The TruBall slugs I could not get the hang of firing them. They all went to the side even though I was aiming center mass. The Black Magic Slugs were better and was hitting center mass. The indoor range only has a distance of 25 yards.

I got this in a trade about 15-20 years ago and other than putting a box of shells through it to function check at the time of the trade I haven't touched it. It had some really ugly wood that someone had glued a leather cheek piece to and then tried to peel off and really messed the wood up. The barrel had been cut to 21" and it was drilled and tapped for a front sight but never had one. In short it was an ugly duckling.
I've been looking at Beretta 1301s, but just couldn't bring myself to buy one since I don't use a shotgun much anymore. Then I remembered this in the back of the safe. So far I've added a Wilson Combat +2 mag extension, DMW follower, Truglo fiber optic sight, Nordic charging handle, and Speedfeed furniture. It functions with everything I've tried in it from 1 1/8oz low brass Walmart bulk box Federal to 00 buckshot. Next it's going to a local smith to be threaded for chokes and then to a friend for burnt bronze cerakote.

Savage-Stevens 350 made in China by Norinco,it has a nice solid feel like the old SKS carbines from the 90's I remember not junk at all
I DID have to fix the extractor and I junked the mag follower and put in one for a Ithaca 37 then stuck an AR butte plate on it-but then anybody who's had an SKS can remember doing a few tweaks I'm sure,looking to get a Choate 37 youth stock in awhile.

Pretty good buy for $235.

I picked this Mossberg 500 Regal in a trade a couple months ago. It's pretty beat up, but the wood is in decent shape and should make a good foundation for a project. I cut the barrel down to 20" and will refinish it in black Cerakote sometime this week. The bolt, carrier and the rest of the internals will get plated in NiB as well. I'll post an update after its finished.

Had the barrel cut back to 18.5" and the bead re-installed and then put on synthetic furniture. It's really light, probably kicks like a mule but I built it for hiking and backpacking. I'll take it out and shoot it some this weekend. I have birdshot, buck, and slugs to try out. It's probably gonna hurt but it'll be a good hurt.

Really terrible pic of a couple other singles I got about the same time. H&R 20ga and a rossi tuffy .410. The tuffy only weighs 3 lbs and breaks down without any tools.

Got a new point and shoot the other day and decided Dr. Evil Jr's shooting practice would be a good place for to see if I made a good purchase or not. It has a 20X optical zoom and the camera was reported to have rapid fire shot capability. I gotta say I'm digging it based on these results. If you look at the last two pics you can see where I not only captured the shell being ejected, but the clay being broken. Oh and this was his first practice as part of the competition squad.

I have seen so many shotguns with those vang comp front sights installed differently. I don't think vang comp even knows which way is the right way or if there is no right way to install them. I had mine installed so the steeper sloping side of the front sight was towards the reciever. Either way they are good sights and I love the look of them. Beautiful shotgun you have there NewYork.

My updated beater HD shottie. It's a Norinco JW2005 (870 clone but with the safety arrangement similar to a Mossberg 590). I would have preferred a Remington 870 but it's hard to get it here in the Philippines. In any case, this shotgun has been doing great and was a great bargain (cost me around $200). Also, I actually prefer the safety location compared to the 870.

a) barrel shortened from 18.5" to 16";
b) XS sights banded tritium front sight;
c) Magpul MOE stock and forend;
d) 4 round Side Saddle;
e) Scattergun Tech. mag spring and hi-visibility follower;
f) VTAC two-point sling;
g) refinished in Brownells Alumahyde OD
h) Inforce WML;
i) FAB Defense picatinny sling mount (front sling mount); and
j) extended mag tube cap (to even out the mag tube with the barrel)

There is no modification. There is no differance in a sb 590 vs a normal 590 other than the barrel length. The action itself is not shortened when a 590 is converted, or any other shotgun that I'm aware of.

This is incorrect on the mossberg 590s. The factory short barrel 14" uses a shorter mag tube and slide action than the 18.5 barrel. My shotgun shown above with the magpul furniture started life as a 18.5" 590a1. I cut it to 15 3/4" and is a registered sbs.

I am aware of the factory ones being shorter. I was referring to ones that are converted.
Looking at yours and having a 18 590 myself I just knew the mag tube and assembly were the same length. Like I said I'm not aware of any that are shortened when converted.

The question was how was the MOE modified to fit the SBS, not how the 590A1 was modified. The MOE only fits the 7 5/8" action slide tube and the factory 14" has the 6 1/2" action slide tube. The MOE requires modification to fit it.

KentuckyWindage, I presume your answer means your Mossy has the 7 5/8" action slide tube and the MOE fit without the need to modify it?
