The question was how was the MOE modified to fit the SBS, not how the 590A1 was modified. The MOE only fits the 7 5/8" action slide tube and the factory 14" has the 6 1/2" action slide tube. The MOE requires modification to fit it.
KentuckyWindage, I presume your answer means your Mossy has the 7 5/8" action slide tube and the MOE fit without the need to modify it?
Yes you are correct. The moe hand guards do not fit a 14" mossberg with out being modified.

First sentence of my original post. I didn't see a point in telling why I knew it wasn't modified. Only felt it was needed to say this shotgun didn't need modification. Literally answered his question with my first sentence.
................ Only felt it was needed to say this shotgun didn't need modification. Literally answered his question with my first sentence.
You don't get it. I never asked if the shotgun was, or needed to be modified. The MOE forend needs to be modified to fit a factory 590 A1 SBS because it uses the shorter action slide tube and I asked how he did it.
That shotgun is not a factory SBS but rather a shortened 18.5" which uses the longer action slide tube and the MOE requires no mods to fit. That info came out with the owners response.

Trust me I get it, maybe something is being lost in translation here. You asked how the moe forend was modified. I answered simply with "there is no modification" then told you why there was no mod needed. In the future I'll just let the questions wait 4-5 days to be answered. This thread doesn't recieve a whole lot of attention, and I was simply trying to give you an answer in reasonable time. My apologies.

870 Wingmaster I traded into. Added a Hogue youth stock and rifle-sighted barrel. Cerakoted the whole thing tungsten. Having a little trouble with slugs keyholing at 50 yards. I've only tried Brennekes and Fiochis so far, but the modified choke seems to be causing some fits. The good news is that it keeps cheap 00 buck in a fist-sized pattern at 15 yards and the good buck like Federal with Flite-Control punches 00 buck into a golf ball sized hole at 15 yards.

Nice choices in platform, mount & dot kruzan.
I have an H on my Vang 870 w/ the supplied AP mount (keeps it just low enough) but my T1 on the SBR sit's in an ADM.
Thank you, I saw very little improvement in, or only a slightly lower height with the AP mount. If I remember right it was not enough for co-witness. I like the height of this one and the quick detach. The AR mount is too high, and the AP M4 seemed too big.

What do you do with a single-barrel H&R 12 ga w/30" bbl that sits around unused and unloved? Break out the saw...
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff122/jet1966/sawedoffsingle_zpsfda8dfda.jpg
I saw where another guy did this, and thought 'why not?' With the bbl at 18.5", it makes the gun handle completely different. It went from cumbersome to awesome! It's not as practical as a standard pump gun, but until 590s or 870Ps start showing up (at not ungodly prices) again, it'll do.
So later in the year, I reblued the shotgun and replaced the chipped/splintering wood furniture with some ATI 'tactical' stuff, to make it more weather hardy. I put it out in my shop and called it my 'snake gun,' being we live slightly rural and have a decent sized pond filled with fish, frogs, turtles... And snakes.
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff122/jet1966/ARMods/singlebbltac12ga_zps0d864192.jpg
So tonight it finally got put to practical use, taking out this 2'-ish mocassin. It was sitting right at the edge of the water, with only the head sticking out. Unfortunately, the head was resting on a rock, and I didn't really want to catch a face full of ricochet birdshot pellets, so I aimed just behind the head and a bit up. It wasn't enough to shred the snake, but it was enough to incapacitate it so it could then be dragged from the water and decapitated with the shovel. We had gone down to the water's edge to see what the fish were up to tonight when I noticed this guy less than 2' from my foot.
So here's the snake gun as of tonight, in more than name;

Found at a local gun store as police trade-ins. Marked "870 Magnum" and dated to 1987.
They were a bit rough but each had a working albeit old Laser Products fore-end and one had the Speedfeed stock. Got both for $496 OTD. One was sold off at a slight profit so the cost for the one remaining was about $215. Gave it a coat of GunKote and replaced the barrel with a slightly used take-off that I'd bought and thrown in a closet. Added an LED bulb to the SureFire, a Vang Comp +1 extension, spring and follower, and a Proctor sling - these added about another $100 to the total. I know many swear by sidesaddles but I'm liking how lean this is compared to a 590A1 I have with a saddle. I am very interested in the shotgun cards from SKD though - seems like a nice way to stay lean but add ammo if needed/desired.

Nothing to write home about but picked this Maverick 88 up a few weeks ago in a neglected state in my local shops used gun rack. Surface rust galore and holes drilled in the butt stock at what appeared to be a sad attempt to place a single point sling mount. Took it home stripped degreased and dura coated in magpul fde. Not a huge fan of the blackhawk stock the grip any way stock is ok but way better what was on it. Only thing i need to find is mossberg 500 front grip. Not bad for my first shotgun.

This has been a fun little project. I rebuilt this Hawk HP9 for a friend. It had been severely mistreated. It had a broken ejector, broken stock and was COVERED in rust. Pitiful looking thing. Replaced the ejector and the stock set, added a side saddle and sanded the entire thing to remove the rust(I typically blast projects with aluminum oxide prior to re-finishing, but this was too far gone). After cutting the barrel down, I welded a front sight from a Ruger LCR on(found it in the parts box), and then re-finished it using dark parkerizing gray teflon moly.

I wish that I had some pictures to show, but the only thing that I have is this one of the model number that he had sent me. At this point it had been scrubbed hard and de greased with brake cleaner. You can still see the specks of rust all over the pic(bumpy texture), but I don't have any pictures of the large patches of rust. The entire shotgun was covered, but luckily only on the outside.

870 Wingmaster that had already been turned into a truck gun by someone else. I bought a new barrel with tritium sights, replaced the mag spring and follower, blasted it all and finished in cerakote. Added a Mesa Urbino, Magpul forend and TLR-1.
Only thing I'd do different is get a cylinder bore instead of a mod. I get a wider pattern with the mod barrel than the cylinder bore in my Mossberg when using Federal Premium with the flitecontrol wad.

NEF 20ga Pardner. Someone did a nice job modifying the stock. Not sure if it was originally a youth model or if it was shortened but it's a nice handy little bugger.

Just bought a nice police trade in, sorry for lousy picture. Its a Wingmaster 870, serial code date 1979, in fantastic shape for a used gun. These are so different compared to newer 870s. I have a newer "tactical" marked 870 which is already starting to show rust on the receiver.
Picked this up today. Was a 28" barrel. Chopped to 18.25 until I get everything done up to SBS 'er.

We finally got SBS legalized here last year so I bought one as soon as I could find a factory 870. Had the barrel cut to 12.5", threaded for chokes and rifle sights installed, Magpul furniture, GG&G follower, Surefire M300 in a Unity Tactical Fusion mount, Vang Comp big head safety and a Aridus Industries QD-C.

Bullitt - i have a similar 12.5" Wingmaster SBS. I went with a X\S tritium Big Dot front sight, along with some other mods.
It handles very well. Nice work on yours, the wood looks good on it.

Thanks. I was surprised to find it patterned about the same as my buddy's 18.5" barreled 870. I even managed to shoot some clays with it. Handles great and is also lots of fun. I like it way more than I thought I would.
I want to keep the old school aesthetic so will probably go with a brass bead, but the big dot seems like it might offer better usability without being to flashy.

Only had four messages, surprised it was full. Completely empty now.
It is holding up really well. I don't shoot it a ton, but it is sitting beside my bed right now with one tube of slugs and another of 00 buck. Other than my first outing with it I've not had any failures. I short shuck the $hite out of it so it is wearing a VFG.

My oldest NFA/Title II firearm: 12 ga. 8” Mossberg 500 AOW
Built by a SOT in WA in July 1989 for the princely sum of $300 – the $5 stamp took 13 months (August 1990) to get back from ATF. Over 3K rounds down the tube. So for its 28th birthday I decided to take it to Robar* for the NP3 treatment…
I now have a Mossberg Mini Marine! Great for repelling pirates… or any other varmints.

Did someone say Browning Citori?
Here is one that has been well used, only about 70-100K through it by my guess.
And no, the picture doesn't make the barrel look long, that thing really does have a barrel that is as long as your AR.

How about some old school circa 1955? This is a pawn shop "save" work in progress. This gun was beat to hell and back. Forearm split completely in two pieces and duct taped. I need to get back on it, as it's getting close. I've been looking for one of these for about 5 years (one that was a beater and I could cut on a little bit). Still have to mount the front sight and put pic rails on the forearm. Then detail strip, clean and install all new springs inside.

I'd love to do a Form 1 on a specimen like that, and build my own whippet shotgun. Please keep us up to date on that. It would be worthy of it's own thread in the NFA forum.

That's a very cool shotgun. I watched a video on YouTube yesterday where they covered this stock repair. I think it was a Midway video.

The original intent was to do a Form 1, but after thinking long and hard about the intended use I kind of doubt it will happen. I intend this to be the primary HD shotgun of the house so it's getting pic rail for a light and possibly a sling attachment point. By cutting the stock and barrel it's pretty much totally transformed it's handling qualities already. It's about 9" shorter overall than in original configuration and has a 18.25" barrel and 12.5" LOP. I may change my mind down the road if I can convince myself that cutting the barrel to about 14" and dropping a mag extension would be worth the paperwork hassle.

I used acraglass to glue it back together and then added a single layer of fine fiberglass cloth down the entire length inside and acraglassed that with 3 more thin layers of acraglass. If it breaks again, which I doubt, I'll put a synthetic on it.

True, but I kind of treat returned BATFE forms like presents from Santa. "Hey, look what I found under the tree!"
The Form 5320.20 to take across state lines is not a big deal, I've done a couple. But with the dimensions you have it now, it does look very handy.
I need to find me a beater Auto-5. I already run Uncle Serious's Home for Abused Scatterguns. One more won't be that big a deal.

I've got a Savage 720 (licensed A5 clone) in ROUGH shape that I've been wanting to make a similar project of. Just to further complicate matters, it's a 16 gauge. Can anyone here provide any educated guesses as to what magazine extension might fit? I'd like to avoid some of the expensive trial and error of trying different extensions.

This only applies to the Brownings but might be something to look into. The tube on mine pictured above is a Nordic Components for a BPS. The Belgian made Auto-5 and BPS use the same thread. The later Japanese made Auto-5's were a different thread and I believe that Remington used a different thread on their version as well. Hopefully you get lucky with Savage making a more "authentic" copy.
Thanks for the reply; I'll look into the BPS/Nordic possibility. Thanks to your post (yours looks great and is exactly what I've had in mind) I've decided mine has been on the back burner for too long. Tonight I tried some Remington magazine caps on it for size. The 20ga 870 is not even close, but the 12ga is at least close in diameter. I think I remember reading somewhere that the 16ga A5 mostly shares parts commonality with the 12ga. I'm hoping that will hold true with the Savage, especially concerning the mag tubes.
I have zero intentions of doing a Form 1 on it. Chopping the barrel to 18.5" and the stock to 12ish is as far as I can see myself going, as the receiver has issues and I don't trust it to hold up to high round count training and fun. The only role I can really see for it is leaned up behind the kitchen door for the occasional snake or other vermin, and if I'm honest with myself it can fill that role just fine with its full length, full choke barrel. But where's the fun in that, lol?
I'm looking forward to tearing it down to replace the springs, inspect the innards, and generally learn about the mechanism. Oh, and I also picked up an ancient NOS big-head safety I plan to install. I think it's a Williams; I need to dig it out from the back of the parts bin where it's been languishing for a few years.

Bought this Stevens 311A at a gun action several years ago for all of $125, had a warped rib at the muzzle, a small chip in the stock on the left side at the receiver and the wood finish was peeling, but sound. Sat on a rack until a month ago when I had the barrels chopped, a brass bead installed and the stock repaired. Once home I stripped the wood of the finish and it's been getting boiled linseed oil rubbed into the stock and fore end daily. I also found that a previous owner tried to install a 511 trigger guard on it and broke off the front lug in the receiver, but the trigger guard is aluminum so it'll be and easy fix to remove and replace. So far I've got less than $200 into it.

Negative, the barrel isn’t threaded for chokes.
This is my new/old 870P. It was the SBS I carried at work. I may SBS it again in my name. It handled and shot well with a 14” bbl. Here a photo of my last qual with slugs.
I’m not sure the MagPul stock is right for me and the 870. I don’t like how much I have to change my grip to manipulate the safety especially to put it back on. The stock is set up much better form a Mosseberg. Anyone else have this issue and a solution?

Actually, yes. I have three 870's with the Magpul stocks, and highly recommend adding a Vang Comp Big Dome safety.
Twelve bucks at Brownells: https://www.brownells.com/shotgun-parts/receiver-action-parts/safety-parts/safeties/remington-870-1100-11-87-big-speed-safety-prod1599.aspx?avs%7cManufacturer_1=VANG%2bCOMP%2bSYSTEMS
It makes a lot of difference, you can easily pop the safety off with the knuckle of your trigger finger. Raise the shotgun from low ready and pop off the safety before your finger touches the trigger. It does not slow you down at all, and greatly increases safety for your fellow officers.
And I bet you have already seen how it's even easier to cover a friendly with the muzzle of an SBS than a longer barrel. I am a real stickler for using the safety with a shotgun - especially when you consider what a load of buckshot does at a few feet. :(
Hope that helps.
Typhoon Defence F12. So far quite nice shotgun, I like it. I will use black one in competition this year. Sorry for little blurred image. It was taken on indoors range with 1/4s exposition time (optical stabilization in my camera did wonders anyway), but pictures with built-in flash came out worse.

BTW Front sight on FDE one is positioned exactly how manufacturer did it. Foam in carrying case is cut to match. Maybe it looks more HSLD this way, or something ;)

That Mossberg SBS on top - is that a factory SBS or did you cut it down? Just curious, I have a police trade-in 590A1 arriving next week. I'm debating doing a Form 1.

The Mossberg is a factory SBS, the 870 and Benelli M2 I "manufactured" by using factory 14" barrels and doing form 1's. Don't ask me why I needed 3 SBS's.....I have no answer for that! The Mossberg has the short mag tube like the Shockwave, not sure if you can cut down a longer model to 14" due to the location of the barrel underlug?

That's exactly why I was wondering. I got a deal on a 590A1 for stupid cheap, and was going to do a Form 1 now that efile is back up.
I know you can buy an SBS barrel, but then you have to make changes to the mag tube. And there goes the cost benefit of not just ordering a factory gun.
Don't feel bad about the third shorty. This 590A1 will be my fourth - LOL.

It’s nice for what it is/what I paid for it but it’s not the greatest. It’s a little small. I’m used to my MROs and EXPS2. The brightness setting are 1-11, but you can’t go from 11 to off like on some of their other scopes, you have to turn the dial all the way back to 1 (then 0). The battery life isn’t very long either.

Cape gun. Unknown maker, Germany, about 1800. Originally flint converted to percussion. Caliber .61. Polygonal straight left, rifled right. I rebrowned the barrels, relaminated the cheek, and did two stock repairs.

Beautiful grain on that 835. Would look even better with some classy leather.

Agreed……I just installed the rear sling swivel and front sling mount and threw that web sling on there. A leather sling would really finish it off right!
My working 870. It has Briley chokes installed and a few other modifications done.

Thank-you.
The barrel is (was) 26" pressure-compensated, was cut to 18-3/4" and had the RemChokes reinstalled. I run an improved cylinder choke which seems to work well with both Federal LE 00 buck 9-pellet and rifled slugs (both reduced recoil). It cycles those loads without issue.
The stock was cut one inch and has a 13" LOP. I would have taken another half-inch off but no more could be cut due to the action spring. OAL is now 35 inches. It was a fun project and the SG is fun to shoot. It resides in the safe as my primary HD long gun.

Local gunsmith here in NH - https://www.statelinegunsnh.com/
I had to call around a bit to find a gunsmith with the RemChoke taps.

My Beretta 1301 Tactical set up just how I want it. Romeo 4T in a ADM QD low mount gives a less cluttered sight picture and a more heads up position, but I still get a solid cheek weld with QD capability. Modlite and Modlite M-lok switch, Modlite in a Magpul aluminum M-lok mount kicks the light out just enough where it doesn't light up the front sight at all and I can activate the switch with either hand. Not shown, a Magpul MS1 padded sling. I will probably add the Aridus shell carrier at some point.

Almost done. I already have Aridus side saddle just need to install it. Other than that trying to figure out what I want to do with my light setup. I may remove the RMR and go with either 507C or 508T.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210808/de45bf2a0a148be83b8cf8865f57c077.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210808/5aef46954071fd12032e2f7ec17f4f49.jpg

Sent from my SM-N986U1 using TapatalkThanks. I updated a few things. Added my preferred light setup, swapped out the RMR for a 508T and swapped out OEM bolt handle for a Briley. Just sign up for the email notifications on Aridus website. Thats how I acquired my parts anyway. They usually give a heads-up on facebook when they are getting close to having parts available. You can find some of the Aridus parts on Gun Broker and ebay but at an inflated price.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210921/53f171f48f608185f566f67b8a0c14ad.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210921/e206b0fcdef059b0ac0e71dd81c3f5c7.jpg

"Tele" is from Greek. We all know what it means: Distance, or, "from a distance". Telephone: sound from a distance. Television, telescope: things seen, but from a distance, etc.
So, the Teletrimmer 520. Got some branches overhanging the edge of your field? Too dang high to reach with a chain saw, say 25-40 feet up, but the ends of the branches are sagging down into your tillable area? Sick and tired of them bumping the cab of your combine, scratching the paint on your BFN (Brand, Fantastic, New) John Deer that cost three times what your house did....? And, you keep thinking that there must be a way, some way, that you can get help from John Moses Browning...?
The Teletrimmer 520, with a little help from Fiocchi and Wolf 12 gage slugs.

.... 3" branch, 4 slugs. 4" branch, 8 slugs. 6" branch, 15 slugs! Nothing's ever easy!
Final version of the front sight on Spoonful, deer antler.
https://i.imgur.com/v6bKIve.jpg?1
Spoonful was a real orphan. A Savage 720, bought without a barrel.... I happened to have a Rem 11 barrel, which was more or less a drop-on, but my, it was long. From the cutoff portion of it, I made the fancy front sight base which got silvered back onto the cut-off barrel. This three-digit beauty made in 1930 has been around the block enough times that the receiver is cracked, the screw slots are buggered up, and I won't change a thing! There is another century of utility left in this old bird as-is.

Electroless nickel makes these the ultimate. However I’m not a fan of the nickel look. I always thought it would be ideal to have one of the original electroless nickel Benelli M4 And to ionbond the nickel as it it’s a suitable host.

Purchased a second set of handguards to stipple with a bit more of a mature/M1-ish layout, while preserving the originals. Apparently the “NEW” handguards purchased were of an older iteration, because they would not fit, as the mold did not have the notch for the barrel indexing collar. I fit the handguard and no one would be the wiser. Added a match saver, having to counter sink the nut to avoid piston contact. It worked well, but in hindsight, I wish I would have stuck to Velcro, given acceptance of Velcro as an accepted means for side saddles.
What model Holosun is that on your 1301?
It's a 507V2 green. They quit making the V2 because Trijicon cried about the buttons on it.
