View Full Version : Buffer tube erosion....?

Hi.

I've had one of their 18" uppers for about 2 months now. I had to send the first one back due to too tight of a chamber; nothing would cycle. They rebarrelled it and now it runs just fine. New problem: Now it appears that the bolt is wearing away at the bottom of the buffer tube where it threads in to the lower reciever. I noticed small shavings the last time I fired it and opened it up to clean. I know that with the standard AR gas system, the bolt and carrier are forced open in-line with the axis of the buffer tube, and that POF's system does apply downward pressure on the carrier due to the op-rod, but it's a bit un-nerving. I don't want the carrier to wear through suddenly and break the tube. That would be bad.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have emailed them, but I know they're busy. I have nothing but sympathy for Chris, their customer service guy.

thanks,

I see that no one has responded; evidently no one has had this problem. I'm just luck that way. To update, POF had me ship the whole weapon to their factory to see if they can fix the issue. Whether they can or not, I am very appreciative of their efforts. I'm hoping the lower receiver isn't out of whack. Perhaps it was just the specific buffer tube in this case; a Tapco collapsible. That isn't meant to smear Tapco. I don't know who does their tubes. I have the original Bushmaster full length stock on there now. I didn't shoot it much with the full length, so there isn't verifiable wear. I'll keep this post posted, so if anyone else has this problem, perhaps it may help.

This should solve your issues, if they cant.

One of the supreme individuals graciously testing for me is running one of the first prototypes in his POF. I was told the gun has never run smoother.
Hopefully that helps. Youve come to the right place on this issue, you are definitely not the only one to experience this problem. ;)

BTW- Thanks Bret, I must have missed this thread.
