I've looked around a little and couldn't find a newbie nfa or FAQ thread, if there is one can someone point me to it. I've downloaded the NFA handbook and will read it when I get a little more time.
I'm planning on building an SBR and getting a little confused when it comes to the process. I understand that I have to register the lower, I've read that it needs have the manufacturer and state engraved on it, the lower i bought has the manufacurer of the lower and the state that it was made in, does that work or do i need to engrave my name and my state on it? What is a trust and do I need one to build a SBR?
As far as i know all full auto's have to be manufactured before 1986, is that true or is there a way to register and build one myself without spending $10k?
I'm more of a hobbiest and don't plan on going into any kind of business, it would just be interesting to know.

If you go the form 1 route to register your lower as a SBR you become the maker of the SBR and you add your name and address ie John Doe Boston, MA. If you go the trust route it would say someting like The revocable living trust of John Doe. Boston, MA.

No you can not make a machinegun for private sale. You should read Scotty Ryan's sticky how to SBR your lower.

He covers the topic well and if you ask questions there lots of other folks will see it and may reply with helpful info.

You don't need a trust it is just an option.

There is plenty of info here in the NFA area. Please take some time and look around. I think the process was explained quite well by ScottyRyan.

You are welcome. You will find tons of good information here, you just need to dig a little bit. Once you know your way around it is easier to find.
