Thankyou.. I assume the grey parts are the flashy parts to you. The grip, buffer tube cover and barrel are tactical grey.. Verdict is still out on how I feel.. it can always be changed lol

Excuse my poor photography, but I had to show off the Forward Controls LDFA I installed yesterday. I highly recommend the LDFAs for those with FA uppers. Snag-free, lightweight, black, and beautiful.

No, it's just for looks. Of course it functions as a FA.

A simple "yes" would have sufficed.

There are plenty of new FAs out there that just pin into the upper and don't move. Don't ask me why...

Wait, are they purposely designed that way? If you don't push the FA in while you finish punching in the roll pin, it will create a situation like you describe. I've never heard of a decorative forward assist.

Mil-spec forward assists are quite a bit chunkier and heavier, have a rim that can snag on things, extend further from your upper, and are generally parked, while these, I believe are nitrocarburized, giving them a slick, uniform black appearance. I know it's hard to get excited about a foward assist, but these are really, really nice.

No flange.

Shao

No flange.

Plus they just look better and shave a whopping 2 grams off of your build! The Ti version weighs even less, but mine is currently installed so I don't feel like removing it just to weigh it.
The fit and finish are just superior too. There's no roll pin going through the assist, which adds to the clean look. Black DLC coated Ti LDFAs coming for all you lightweight guys. You really can't appreciate one without having it on your rifle.

The flangeless design keeps things from hanging up on it as well. Duffy did a GREAT job on these. They are to mil-spec forward assists as BAD levers are to mil-spec selectors. If you want the best, sometimes you have to pay a little more... and I've tried a few different aftermarket forward assists and was unhappy with all of them before finding the LDFA.

Plus... Mil-spec forward assists are so ugly and snaggy. Ever get a sling lodged between your CH and FA? Ever Not gonna happen with one of these. What about those times that you drag your hand on the FA flange while charging your rifle? Not gonna happen either...

Non-LDFA forward assist shown for comparison (and yes, I realize that's an old rifle, but you get the idea):

Yeah man! In fact they are so prolific that's why I automatically assumed yours didn't function anymore. Id send links but I'm on my phone. Some of them vent gas for suppressors but others are just...not functional lol

LOL, I seriously doubt Duffy would release a product before thorough testing. I can almost guarantee that you won't experience any venting problems when using a suppressor.

I love it. I put one on my rifle with raptor charging handle and intent on replacing all my FAs with them.

The LDFA was purpose designed for use with ambi charging handles.
As such, it has a limited audience:

Ambi charging handle user
User with standard A3 receiver (some receivers have forward positioned FA housing like the MUR that address the interference already)

The rimless feature has a simple reason for being, when you use your right hand to pull back on the charging handle's right latch, the LDFA's smooth plunger doesn't catch on fingernails or knuckles. It follows the mutation and natural selection evolution of the AR, something that doesn't get used much mutates into something smaller. The advent of ambi charging handles also advanced the FA being redesigned to be out of the way of left hand users.

Here's another view with a different perspective of the LDFA, courtesy NSZ85 :)

Yes, basically this.
In general terms, if I may, gun lasers (truly working gun-lasers: not just toys but lasers that maintain zero, have visible and IR light; can take a beating etc.) are really great.
I really like them. As civilians, we may be a few years behind in discovering their practicality (use) but I find them really cool.

The visible laser is even nice at the range; you just point and shoot. And it really works.
The NV, IR laser lets you use NV goggles to their full extent. Not to mention, naturally, its intended use as a military target designator since its very inception with the PEQ2/A.

Can't go wrong with either one (PEQ2/A, ATPIAL or Dbal). Just buy a solid one among these and you're good to go.

I'm so feelin' that. When the vampire shows up, I'm gonna hit it with some paint as well.

I ended up using an old wire pegboard tool basket. I cut the wire away from the frame, and held it up against the areas I hit with OD. I wanted to get a net, or a laundry bag or something, but that was the most expedient solution. Then I ended up just misting some OD down in random spots.

Looks great. I like it a lot. The hardest part about painting a rifle is nutting up and getting the first coat down. Once you do that, you realize there's nothing to be afraid of.

Mess it up? Repaint it.

Wears through? Repaint it.

Don't like it? Repaint it.

I'm with you on the length; if I could, I would only own SBR rifles (especially in the case of AR15s).
What I admire, however, is the history of the US Military and its heritage with certain rifles; the M16 being certainly one of them. So for me, it's a must have.
As you can see, I had to have 'em all

Duffy,
we don't need to shoot 'em necessarily.
If I could (read: if the wife let me) I'd hang 'em on the walls, all around the house.
For example, I love what you've done with that A1 build next to those pictures. I'd frame elements of US (military) history just like that. Guns, images and all.
Museum looking.

The reason for me is even stronger than it may be for others; see, I was born here but didn't grow up here. I grew up in Europe, and I have seen it slowly drifting away in the last 20 years.

I know what freedom is. Or lack thereof, actually.
That's why I moved 'back here' and I am going to die here.

Sir!

I used to have the A1 clone where you see it in the pic, the wifypoo asked me to take it down when we had guests, I figured it had had its time in the open, and put it in the safe. I was thinking of getting a display case for it, but if the wife is going to have me hide it every time we have guests, then I don't think it'll work.

I came to the US at 17 to go to college, and I never looked back (I'm legal! lol) Folks that have been and seen what it's like outside of the US usually have a more profound appreciation of almost everything that this country offers to its citizens, which many unwittingly take it for granted.

Yes sir (and nice AR too, yet again).
Well Duffy,
I was born here (Texas, actually; now southern California, which I love).
However, my father (an Italian Navy officer at the time, on a joint mission in the US for two years with the American Navy) had to go back to Italy.
So they brought me back - after me getting my US passport - after 15 days from birth.

I would never see the US again (though I would dream of it) before the age of 17.
After then, my passion only grew.

But I was to set afoot in this country again (as a resident; been here dozens of times as a visitor since then, east and west coast) only one and a half years ago; at nearly 50 years of age.
Time has passed, the passion has stayed.

America, f**k yeah.

Phil

Oh PS

I never could own any guns in my life (any real steel, that is) until the age of 45 in Rome, IT, when I finally passed the exams (mental, physical) to get my gun-license and collection permit that allowed me - finally - to own in the dozens of firearms of all eras.
A privilege I would soon give up to move (permanently) to the US of A.

One of my neighbors when I lived in Malibu is a Frenchman. Hell of a nice guy, he started with nothing and built his American dream like the way we always hear it. He once related to me why he fled France. It's socialist country that doesn't encourage individual accomplishment and hard work. It's hard to get ahead when the harder you work, the more is taken away from you.

Here's an oldie from 2001 I think. The ZM System upper was sold long ago. RAS2, ELCAN, the good old days.

Things have changed since you've been there my friend. The humidity - yes, it is bad. The drivers? I would say it's more of a traffic infrastructure problem rather than bad drivers. American food and beverages now abound in Taiwan. Last time I was there, I had the best steak I've ever eaten in my entire life - no kidding... and PLEASE... tell me where to find good Taiwanese food in Houston because I've been looking for the past 20 years and nothing even comes close to the real deal. The "Chinese/Taiwanese" food here is an absolute joke. You must not have eaten at any good restaurants while you were there. But.. the gun laws.. damn... You got me there...

Yes, in fact I discovered airsoft in Taiwan back in 93. I managed to bring back some spring 1911 and Glock clones that were really nice and were almost indistinguishable from the real things. I remember being blown away by the working slide stops, grip safeties, etc... The selection they have over there now is ridiculous. Too bad I'm not into airsoft. Not enough recoil or noise. :D

Ballistic Advantage 13.7" Hanson barrel with pinned gas block. Fun rifle, pairs nicely with the Leupold 12.5-4x VX-R Patrol.

Funny. After seeing you mounting higher BUIS, I went that route. And you just went the opposite route.
I like the higher ones you had on better - but I go for looks, mainly. Was bored with the look of low riding BUIS, liked it with higher ones more.

Can any one tell me what rail system that is?

Kindred spirit, you might say :agree:

I was too young to have guns at 17. Got my first AR in college, I had mostly HKs and more exotic stuff back then, I remember I didn't like the small parts flying off from the AR, a problem HK roller locked systems didn't have.

Pic thread:
Here's another early 2000s, almost period correct piece. The selector is out of place, but I used it to take product pictures and never removed it

Thanks, simple was my goal for a light irons only set up. I'll probably go to a fixed rear sight eventually.

The stock and handguard are the new grey, yes. Would have done the SL handguard but the barrel came with a triangle handguard cap installed which doesn't work with the SL. Was too lazy to switch it out. I have a grey moe pistol grip to switch with the black. The only other addition will be an Insight WML for HD duty.

You know,
will all the terrific offering (which, too, I buy) of contemporary, technologically advanced AR15 and all, M4 carbines are still what waters my eyes.
I'd actually buy several of them and dress them all slightly differently.

Here's one of mine pretty much in standard configuration.

So I am having another upper shortened.

That looks suspiciously like a Noveske Gen III upper with NSR, except in MLOK.

Stick, I just checked out this Stubborn Mule, I'm curious if this is their upper or a different manufacturer as the one the have on their sight looks of from this, or is this something coming down the pipeline? As to the forend I like the looks and price of it but how does it feel compared to the NSR or Erathr3? I've got a 10 inch erathr3 on my shorty and may have to look into this one for an upcoming build

SMOS is the OEM manufacturer for the rail, upper, and lower shown. They have been making it for years, though most people are used to seeing it with a different name on the side.

I'm not sure ambi lowers really sell all that well, so I can understand why a lot of companies ignore them. Who knows though, maybe they will at some point.

After having to take a break from shooting/training for roughly two years, I am just now getting back into the swing of things.

Decided to keep it simple. Picked up this Colt LE6920 w/ Magpul furniture. I am very impressed by the balance of this package. The carbine feels surprisingly light, too.

The SL stock has a very, very snug fit on the RE. Quality is top notch. Planning on picking up a Surefire X300, a Vickers sling, and an Aimpoint.

BCM ELW-F KMR w/ some KAC and Surefire goodies. Swapping the stock for either a CTR or BCM...don't like the wobble on the MOE. Also, Stick, beautiful GSD....I'm a fan of the black ones ;)

Very nice trio (including the pup) you have there sir. I don't know if it fits your needs, but I would highly recommend checking out the Magpul SL stock if you're not a fan of wobble. It is one of the most tightly fitted stocks I have used. No wobble and no need for a friction lock. In terms of fitment, it reminds me of the first iteration of the B5 SOPMOD I picked up a few years ago. That stock, however, was almost too tight; it required some fitting for reasonable operation so I reluctantly parted with it.
