Thanks. Funny thing is, I didn't buy it for its brake effects (how much recoil does 5.56 Semi really have, especially on a ten-pound build?) but for its better dispersal of muzzle flash--I didn't know how much fireball various blast deflectors like the KAK Flash-Can, ICD BFD or Thordsen BD-180 could take and wanted to make sure I wouldn't fry a collar--I have light sensitivity problems, so for me better flash suppression is Priority One, and can you get better than having the flash almost totally trapped inside a metal cup?

Cheap crappy lower, cheap crappy jig, drilling so far by hand rather than power tools... one, I wanted to complete at least one hole in a lower by-hand (in this case, a through-bore on the selector holes; the plan is that by going backward Drill-Then-Mill, the end-mill will automatically deburr the side holes as it goes) just to tell the Bloomingfascists that no matter what they do we can ALWAYS get around them whether legally or surreptitiously, and two this was for $50 including bits a "sampler plate" to see if I really can handle EPL work. Actually, four at $20 a pop and I fully expected to write-off at least one, more probably two and worst-case three out of the four, but I figured better to practice on cheaper plastic than more expensive metal--though this is the first and it's gone *much* better than expected... now I need to go pick up a power-drill at Home Depot or something so I can quit giving myself Repetitive Stress Injuries, lol.
Plan is to throw together a cheap crappy "pistol completion parts-kit" so I can first assemble every blank I complete as a pistol, then make this one a cheap crappy .22 plinker pistol, the next one a cheap crappy .22 understudy for the Ten Pound Monster Carbine, then since the girlfriend's a Canadian citizen if #3 and #4 manage to get through completion as something actually usable try to throw together a couple cheap (but NOT crappy, not BCM/LMT/etc but solid "budget/starter grade") plinker .223's (one each pistol/rifle) that'll hopefully be non-ITAR so she can borrow 'em and join me on the range while visiting. Then the good parts on the pistol build get moved over to a For Real Marbles blank like Tennessee Arms or somebody who actually does metal to start building my loosely-Mk 18-inspired "briefcase-carry" pistol.

Project Gremlin 1.0 is slowly starting to take shape... Lower clamped into its machining jig, buffer kit stowed inside handguard, standard LPK safety already thrown into spares box and replaced with ambi. Timing washers and muzzle devices are stowed in the vault with the rifle they were originally meant for, so I'll mooch those and buy replacements later--they'll be less needed on the 6"-longer barrel.

Temporary upper not yet ordered--once the basic concept is tested with a 10.5 in the 1.0 build, I'll order a Daniel Defense or Andro Corp 10.3 FSB barrel for Gremlin 2.0's Aero upper and a Tennessee Arms hybrid lower, and the 1.0 complete upper with its factory handguard restored and this lower will be reassembled into a plinker pistol. (Yeah, I know, "buy once cry once" but part of the purpose here is gradual steps to slowly develop my gunsmithing skills--first finishing a lower from 80% blank, then assembling an unbarreled upper, then assembling and debugging a pistol, and finally barreling for the next few steps.)

Thanks for the compliments! I used a 16" F1 Arms mid-length fluted barrel. I had my local shop bead blast the exterior, and apply a Teflon coating. I'm getting nice and tight groupings at the 25 meter zeroing range, so I have high expectations for it out at distance. The optics I'm considering are the following: Accupower 1-8, Vortex HD Razor II 1-6, Leupold MR/T 1.5-5.

My 7.5, thanks to the ATF now legal to shoulder, which is great for me, my back and neck are fused and with the Blade I can get the AR in a better position to get a great sight picture. Once I got the gas block dialed in it has run everything I put through it. The combination of the PWS DI Carrier and H3 buffer really make this Pistol a joy to shoot, and the added weight of the PWS Gen 2 Carrier increase dwell time

New build. Aero upper, lower and SPR mount. SD3G for now. BA Hanson SS barrel. PWS TRIAD. KMRA 13. Magpul miad, slk stock and asap (probably taking off.) Steiner P4XI. Aim Surplus nitride BCG. V7 inconel gas tube (I must've been drunk when I ordered it, paying $65 for a gas tube. Coreet charging handle, similar to BCM mod 5. Might swap the stock for something else. B5 Bravo maybe.

See why I call it a "nasty, evil little green thing"? Don't worry, as soon as I finish getting it milled and drilled that nasty lime-green lower is going to be spending some quality time with my trusty can of Rustoleum Olive Drab... and maybe some red and white enamel to fill the selector markings. (After the Phase 2 lower arrives, further burial planned under a coat of either DeWalt Yellow or Makita Teal...)

I asked Magpul Tech Support, all I could get was that they dyed it. Wouldn't tell me anything about masking or even what colors they used.
Stick, were you in on that one, and if so do you think you might be able to dig a little more out for us?

WARNING, beware of these guys and their seemingly killer "deals" on bulk-pack mags! I got popped by their security breach WELL after they claimed "Fixed," Qualys SSL Labs SSL testing STILL indicates their site is Bent Over With Ankles Grabbed, I reported this and they summarily closed my Support ticket without even acknowledging it, so that suggests to me that they're either incompetent, in denial or in on it. Any one of those possibilities is enough for a black-ball from me...
Comparing the two images, it looks like the colors are Flame and Harvest, but I'm no good with colors unless it involves the FS 595C catalog. Anybody out there with better eyes have a take in this?
Also, to the Mods, if it should be decided that this little tangent is too far out of bounds to tolerate for this thread, would you please move it to a new one rather than just deleting?
Diamondback, nope, nothing to do with it at all, but if you were surrounded by millions of magazines I'll bet you could come up with some cool stuff yourself!

Stick, that the Indian Creek 1911 grip adapter? Thought about those instead of the FAB AGF-43 I prefer, but for a 1911 fgrip I need the A1-style rear arch.

DSA Enhanced Castle Nut, FAB PTK angled foregrip added to prior along with better support underneath. Still awaiting BCG/CH, barrel, gas tube, FSB assembly, barrel block, and vise to install muzzle devices, along with mags and some incidental accessories.
Anybody out there know if anybody makes an adapter that clamps to a top-rail, comes out around the shell deflector/FA housing and gives you a side-rail? With the thumb-support and my right thumb killing my plans for mounting another onboard spare mag on the right rear handguard, I'm looking for somewhere to relocate it. (I suppose if it's packing a 10-rounder for carry with a 30 and 40 as on-board backup, that should be plenty for a close-quarters PDW...)

I got some green for you. Found a used, cheap Vltor MUR foliage upper. Bought some "Army Green" Krylon for the handguard, which is a very interesting green. I have OD Krylon but just left it as is. The Magpul OD handstop shows how light and weird the Krylon'd handguard is.
I sold the brace but shot it a lot in this config while waiting for the stamp. That is the A5 pistol tube which Vltor finally released a few years back.

It was a unique acquisition. Everything on it is Diemaco- Upper, BCG, Carry Handle- I added the Tri-Rail, it came to me with KAC RAS (do not buy the BCM Tri-Rail, it is an airsoft part), but the barrel is unmarked, and I couldn't believe every-single-other part would have a Devtek and not the barrel. It also has the skinny front sight post.

This was confirmed in Bartocci's vid, in which I believe he also said the barrels were individually serialized. This one is not marked.
I love it the same whether it has the progressive taper double thick chrome barrel with proprietary chamber or if it's a Colt (or even a ???)- either way it's been a fantastic rifle and one of my favorites as of late.

I built the whole thing, and it's really nice.
Lower: Anderson stripped lower, PSA stock assembly, H3 buffer, and CMMG enhanced lower parts kit.
Upper: Aero Precision assembled upper with no forward assist, All of the other upper receiver parts are Del-Ton.
I'll be picking up a rear sight, later, but I have fired it for function, now, and it does function. I'll be making a few enhancements that I learned about after the fact later on. I built it because I wanted to be able to have a general purpose rifle that I could use for a lot of different things and do them all equally well. It's not a super accurate high power rifle, but I could still use it, it's not a super fast race gun, but I could do 2 and 3 gun competitions with it, it's not the best CQB rifle, but I can totally clear my house with it. It's pretty sweet, and I'm quite happy with it.

It's been picky with ammo so I still need to play with it some to see what's going on. Might need to play with buffers and springs given the barrel length. I am using the KAK package buffer and spring currently.

I had gotten out of the game for a while. Had a lot going on with moving and the wife graduating from college. So now that we are settled and living "in the sticks" I wanted something to walk to property with. So, I pieced this together over the course of a few weeks. Going to add a "sopmod" stock and leave it alone from there since it will be used in hunting for now. Got a few things coming in the mail. Sling, bipod, handstop to be added next week.

I appreciate the info. I have another $50 gift card to PWS so I can order the buffer (got $200 in store credit when I bought the Mod 2). I'll grab a new spring too. I guess I can look into an adjustable gas block if it's needed.

How do you like that unity tactical setup?
I dig it, I don't think I own a single unity tactical product I don't like. The fusion line is no exception, my only complaint is that at least one component you need isn't in stock at any given time. Like most unity products though, it's designed with the professional end user in mind.

I love the girly camo i did on it, I did talk her out of the colors she originally wanted (pink, blue and gold).

Here are my builds. My first started with a striped Spikes lower and a Delton carbine kit. I changed the furniture to FDE Magpul and dyed some parts with green Rit Dye. I recently put the Vortex SparcAR on after my Eotech died.
My second was a complete build using Rainer Arms stripped receivers and comp, Noveske 16" barrel, BCM keymod rail and VFG, AIM bcg, and Magpul stock and grip. I used the left over money from my Eotech refund for the Primary Arms 1-6x scope.
Almost 10.5# as she sits but a blast to shoot!

I have felt the same way, since the MOE handguards first came out. What really sets it off for me, is the UBR
I installed a MOE fixed carbine stock at first but the upper is so front heavy; the UBR balances it out very nicely.

No confusion- You are correct. If his rifle is 26" in length or longer he can run a VFG otherwise he can not and should be removed before the ATF and FBI kick his door down and put him away for life. No folding stocks either.

How is view at 100 yard with this scope? I know the glass is quality just trying to figure out if 4x will be enough power for me.

@Stick: Beautiful! Sure wish someone was doing high quality carbines based on the old GAU 5/ XM177E2 models. Too bad the Troy reproductions are trash and the Colt reproduction is so pricey.

PWS makes a nice platform and I can beat this hard. Looking into a Radian Model 1 right now.

Thanks man the OG indeed! its a fun shoot. I wish I could take off the front flash hider to put my can on it, the next model was adjustable gas system. Still won't get rid of this! I sold my other rifle to a buddy so looking into a standard 16" next

Well finally got my Optic mounted tonight, went with the Leupold AR mod 1. Almost went with the vortex or primary arms but I got a good deal on this brand new and I like that the turrets are set for .223/5.56 ammo, maybe this winter I'll order turrets for 62 grains but for now I'm excited too try out the fire dot in it.

Just picked this one back up from Parallax Tactical where upper and lower were refinished (cerakoted - not my first choice but the quickest. Sniper Gray finish, grey-bluish).
Upper is a vintage all original Colt upper with large early forward assist (love it).
Lower is Nodak Spud M16A2. Many Colt parts (stock); trigger is a Geissele 2 stage. All considered, I am in love with this now finished project (Colt A2 retro)

And you were right: the top rifle (one like it, naturally) was smashed by John Wayne against a tree in lieu of a real M16 - hence, the Mattel toy was used as a movie prop on set.
These rifles were built right after the movie and had some success for a few years thereafter.
ETA, side note: let's just look at the beauty (and function: both rifles are spring-loaded sounding toys, still working after 50+ years) of these simple toy-rifles.
For some of us, born back then, these might bring up some sweet memories and more than a few sighs also considering that today, many of our kids are prohibited from using any such gun-resembling toys.

Totally had one of those M16 toys as a child in the 80s. I thought it was cool stuff. Had a camo tent I used to camp out in along with my M16.

Thanks, found another pic, this is my favorite rimfire. I cheaped out and opened up the barrel channel of the original stock to accept the Tac Sol barrel. I have a Tac Sol cascade on it full time. Its a nice

Yes Florida is hell this time of year unless you enjoy immediately going into a full body slather upon exiting your front door. The good thing is it's heavenly all winter and you can have everything gun related under the sun down here and it's encouraged! Watching California compliant stuff makes my skin crawl! How do you do it!!!?
I like classics too- history, worth, nostalgia, and badassery. Unfortunately, I do not have anything AR related that's classic. One day I'll come across something.

He was called right back to Shitaly, we had to go. I was 15 days old (!). Grew up in Shitaly.
Was deprived of most liberties. Then only three years ago wife and I said '**** it' and moved 'to the States'.
Little did we know what we were going to go against... we didn't know (really).
Now looking at other states - just got me my non-resident AZ concealed carry permit!
Love the US more than life itself.

I have thrown around the idea of doing an old school build. Maybe one day with my son... I'm proud of you for taking that risk but also recognizing that growing up and living is a Socialist state really isn't "living". More like existing maybe.
America has her problems and they are quite significant. Some problems or issues are probably even irreversible. But I too love my America. My Rodina! I also love my Republic of Texas and in spite of being older and knees that have seen their better days , I would answer the call to serve either in a New York second. For whatever that would be worth. Our country needs people like you and Alex. Too often we who were born here and live our lives here often take her greatness, her Sovereignty, and the blessings she bestows on us for granted. I am humbled every time I see someone become a US citizen or embrace America as their home, especially when so many see to want to destroy her. And so many badmouth her like an arm chair quarterback, having never served her. When my wife became a citizen, I was reminded that she still is the Best of the best. I saw people with enormous pride in now being called an "American". That DRB previous potus spent too much time apologizing for being an American. That angered me more than Obamacare.
Those are some really nice old school AR's!
Did you get them complete or build? That A2 reminds me of one of my first issued weapons. Nicely done!
