My M4rgery at the range this afternoon. i was doing some rapid fire drills, mostly to function check everything as this is a relatively new build. So far it has run flawlessly, and I couldn't be happier with it in that respect. Sorry for the crappy phone pics.

Thanks. Grip is an old school Lone Star Ordnance (and it has storage), but they've gone out of business for a while. Carbine stock is an older M4 / N-type stock, Rail is DD RIS II FSP with NSN. Cloth there is a minor thing, but did serve a limited role. Originally there as a quick/ghetto way to help secure cables and pressure pads (but I have gotten rid of the pads since then), and also as a reference point for support hand when shooting on/around/behind barricades where the support hand is placed a little further back because of awkward positions. I should have removed them but never got around to doing so. Rail covers technically work better in this regard, but I didn't want the additional bulk.


Love it! What barrel are you currently using?
Factory Colt 6920 barrel. Gun is a factory Colt 6920 from ~ 2013-2014, minus the DD RIS II I installed for it. Barrel is surprisingly accurate.

I have one of those grips laying around. IIRC, I bought it in a early 90s Houston Gun Show (AstroHall gun shows). I also have one of those stocks at work. That thing is very light.

These guys are HD / range use only so I wanted the shortest length without going the SBR route. I don’t really notice much difference between 14.5 and 16” but these are the smoothest, easiest to handle rifles I have owned.

Triangle handguards- part of Brownells retro furniture line. Also has an A1 stock.

You may want to check CDNN, as they have a few trade in A2 carbines in stock right now. Maybe you can find a picture that is useful there.

I dropped one in my SPR for a range trip. Is smooth and pretty crisp. I do like how the CMC sits further forward and I did miss the little hook that a CMC flat has a little.

Just a weight-and-balance/structural engineering mockup so spare me the dogging about the obvious plasticrap lower-blank it's built on, but this is my stab at taking an EOD-version Mk 18 and trying to turn it into a *barely* WA CCW-legal pistol. Most of the small parts have been omitted to compensate for the extra mass of the unmachined FCG pocket. Would appreciate the benefit of experience looking over my shoulder and advising how it can better fit the design goals, bearing in mind it was built for a left-handed, extremely light-sensitive and all-but-blind operator. (At a range of 12" without glasses, I can't even read the screen I'm typing this on.)

Sights/Optics/Lights: The Diamondhead BUIS and DI Optical FC1 RDS were both selected for their bad-eye-friendly traits. Lasermax Uni-Max green-beam planned, laser on Mossie Mount and tape-switch behind thumbstop. Olight PL-1 II Valkyrie pistol light dead ahead of thumbrest for blinding everybody in the room; PrincetonTec Switch Rail on the top-left slant for a dimmer, red light to get around by without BBQ'ing my own eyes.
"Firing parts": Toolcraft black-nitride BCG, milspec in all but finish, and an Andro Corp 10.3" barrel, NSWC-Crane spec. Muzzle device is a Precision Armament AFAB under the muzzle-cap, which will be shrouded by an Indian Creek BFD as soon as I get the bayo lug chopped to clear it. (Hopefully this combo will mitigate and direct flash and blast downrange rather than where it'll fricassee my eyeballs.) Aero upper for now, which will eventually be handed down for a .22LR pistol.
Buffer system and rear furniture: Vltor A5 pistol kit with H2 buffer, PWS ratcheting endplate and CN substituted for regular; LAW Gen-2 sidefolder from another M4C member and SB Tactical SBM4 brace. Not pictured, 40rd PMAG usually stowed in middle of brace.
Fire Control and LPK: ALG QMS trigger planned, with KNS anti-walk pins. (Call me paranoid, but I like the slight bit of reinforcement that "FCG sub-frame" provides.) Arms Unlimited ambi mag-catch; Strike Industries lightweight easy-push TD pins. Grip is a FAB Defense AGF-43S folder for more compact storage.
Furniture/Other: One of Vltor's last CASV-EL handguards. FAB Defense PTK angled-foregrip and VTS thumbrest. [Not pictured] CAA MPS mag carrier and Magpul 40rd PMAG on left-side rail. Magpul D60 pictured is in Home D configuration; carry load is a slimmer 10-round PMAG backed up by two 40's. The sole "cosmetic" piece on this is DSA's "enhanced" delta-ring.

Overall, not exactly a light build but balance feels about where I'd like it to be. Were I doing this again--and I still might do this anyway--I'd go with a shorter basic pistol tube and Geissele Super 42 buffer since I don't need to worry about being over 26" for a VFG. Besides, as a short-armed stubdude I need a shorter length of "pull"... this is actually just about right to put the SBM4 right into the crook of my elbow, which fits my "chicken wing" technique.

I know, coulda just bought a DD Mk 18 and "got a life," but for me building AR's is about challenging myself to take on newer and more difficult tasks--and maybe a bit of Snowflake ego about being able to say "oh yes I DID build that!" It might not be something Iraqgunz would be proud to outshop at Sionics, but we all had to start somewhere and this is my first step past "pre-built upper on homebuilt lower" toward bigger and better things.

Indeed you are correct. New optics company that is looking to sell direct to consumers and bypass the middle man. At least if I understand things correctly, it should save buyers a couple hundred bucks off what would otherwise be the price.


I should point out, this is my understanding of how they are going to be sold. I could just be crazy, lacking enough coffee, too little sleep, or a combination of all....

My old M&P rifle vs the new Aero Precision build I just finished.

Went with the Aero Precision Ambi Lower fitted with the PDQ bolt catch because im wrong handed and seems to be more effective than the bad lever, arguably safer as well.

Finished out with basic milspec parts aside from the lower furniture and seekins precision safety selector swapped over from the old rifle

Migrated the Holosun and Streamlight ProTac II onto the new rifle untill I have the money set aside for the Trijicon MRO and Surefire I want to set up on it.

Stock, rail, receivers, charging handle and muzzle brake are all from Fortis Mfg. The pistol grip is coarse G10 from VZ Grips, and is great, though you wouldn’t want to use it with soft hands. The safety is from Radian, and is a 45 degree version. The mount is from Spuhr, and is a work of art. The scope is a 1-6 from Mercon Optics. The trigger is a 2.5lb module from CMC Triggers.

Very nice setup. I’ve found that Griffin generally makes really solid sights. I had a set of fixed offset and those things were built like a tank.

Those Radian rifles look extremely sharp, and I'm an old school, non boutique kinda fellow. Congrats on the beautiful rifle! When I use the term boutique AR manufacture I mean no disrespect, and don't use it in a manner that would be derogatory, rather I use it in the literal definition sense. To me, it seems like Radian rifles are a direct competitor to Larue rifles. I know the Radian ambi lowers are awesome, as I've wanted one since they first came out.

Anyways, I think the OG UBR sans doors is the perfect complement to that Radian rifle in both form and functionality. Imho, the OG UBR is still the strongest, most bombproof AR stock made, as well as maintaining the title for best looking AR stock. I personally also consider it to be the finest SPR, or light precision AR stock made. On heavier 16"/18" SS barreled precision ARs (SPR family), I find the stock's heavy weight goes from a negative to a positive, as it balances a long railed/long/heavy barreled AR out much better than a normal LW type carbine stock. It also helps to really bed the rifle down when shooting supported, especially when it prone position. Pardon my pointless ramblings and long winded post, as these days I haven't had much otherwise to contribute to the M4C community. Perhaps Radian will send me a T&E model to do an evaluation on, then I'll have something to contribute:)

I've only used an Eotech magnifier once on a buddy's work rifle, so I can't give an accurate comparison. 3x-C doesn't come with a mount, so if you factor the cost of one about the same as the G33, I'd probably go with the G33 since it's a bit more rugged. The AP magnifier has pretty decent glass though.

I'm not the person who posted the picture but they look to be KAC URX rails. I've got a URXIII on my AAC 9" 300BLK rifle that I love.

The rail covers definitely would not. They're made specifically to fit the URX line of rails and as such are not cheap. I really like the profile though of that rail with those covers as it's very narrow plus feels solid and balanced. Big fan but it's not a simple add-on for MLOK but you have far more options available for that attachment system.
