Thanks! It's my Noveske Recon 16.1". I was at SWS today to get my Recon fixed (barrel nut was loose...Art said it had the wrong one installed). While he was fixing my AR I spotted some loooong rails on the table. He told me they are his newest design; 14" Rail for AR10's & AR15's. He was nice enough to swap me my 10" for one of his new 14" rails.
I really like it a lot, they weigh in at 1 lb. 1.2 oz. It has threads for screw in swivel mounts all over the Rail to accommodate Bipods. There are 2 on the bottom, 1 each on the sides & top at the very front. It doesn't have the QD holes that the Noveske rails have. I think that has something to do with the agreement he has with Noveske not to sell any new Noveske Rails as they slightly differ from the SWS rails. Not a big deal tho, I'll just get a Rail attached sling QD mount.
Art, the owner of Superior Weapons Systems is a real great guy and deserves everybody's business.

Here's another pic;

Picked up my new high speed stick last night. The donor was an LE6920 with the following additions:

LaRue 9.0 Rail
Troy Battle Sights
Knights 11 Rib Rail Covers
H2 Buffer
Colt Special Production Hammer
LMT SOPMOD Stock

The crown jewel is the Colt AR6520 barrel. It has been cut to 14.5 with a custom blind pinned muzzle device. The stock FSB has been machined down to fit under the rail system.

Added a TLR-1 this past weekend. Used to use the Troy grip in the stubby mode, but it seems easier to activate the TLR-1 switch when I've got the extension on the VFG.

Same with mine I thought for that price it has to be plastic so I was very pleased when it arrived and indeed it was CNC machined aluminum with the anodized coating.
Here's mine after getting all the parts I had ordered. Not a great photo but you get the idea:-) It's a CMMG with a 14.5 inch barrel.

The SG550 is non-restricted so it can be used for hunting. Stupid gun laws in the Great White North!

I love it! it's just as good as the triple time for muzzle climb, and it does a great job of reducing recoil. unbelievable break, only down side is its length.

You forgot about it's flash bang like noise and it REALLY sucks under a vehicle or right up near a barricade or on roll over prone. I've used it along with my current Benny Hill Rolling Thunder.....these bad boys are really only good for competition where 100ths and 1000ths of a second in time are everything. For real world stuff the KAC Triple Tap and PWS FSC556 are much better options. I'm also very interested in the new AAC Brakeout that I saw at SHOT.

yeah, I'm using it for target shooting off a bench. it's definitely not good for tactical situations. another problem I forgot to mention (which really doesn't affect me) is no one can shoot next to me. the shock wave that comes out of this sucker is wicked.

I was bored so here are better pics of my new N4 Light Recce Basic with VIS rifle I just purchased. The bottom rifle is a Noveske lower with RRA stage 2 trigger group mated to a M4 Colt upper. I have a Colt 6920 too, but for some reason I like the Noveske/Colt mix better. I must be drinking the cool aid. Oh well.

I also want to get the Troy verticle fore grip. Is it a quality product? What rail covers would you recommend? I know they may all be pretty much the same but I want a set with good grip and will fit properly and tight.

I have been primarily into AKs over the years. I have been bitten by the AR bug again and need to catch up on all of the new stuff available as well as the lingo. Hard to follow some of the discussions on here at times. LOL

N4Fan,
The Troy vert grips are good to go, very solid product. I'd also compare to the LaRue and BoBro offerings. The Dark Earth version of the Troy is another unique version of this color that doesn't really match anything specifically. I have it mounted on a Mk14 mod1 as a stubby.

Only thing I don't like about the LaRue is the Tan version does not go with anything--I'm not sure what their target was for that vert grip in terms of color matching. I was going to mount it on a Sig 556/FDE rifle but it is a radical departure in coloration. Same thing vs KAC FDE, Noveske FDE, and Magpul FDE. I'd almost call it "dull yellow" or "bright tan". Their UDE FUG, to me, is what they should be selling place of the tan model. I have the UDE furniture on a 6940 and its a great product!

The BoBro VFGs are both very good products as well.

Magpul AFGs are also worth looking at or trying out.

N4FAN............anything Troy is quality. They have great customer service. Just ordered some "bling" for my 6.8spc LWRC. I use to own a Yankee Hill aluminum foregrip, hated it. In warm weather shooting at the range it would get hot. You have to wear gloves if you use one. You would think on a free floated rail it wouldn't get too hot, but dang. I use the "SOG armory" style from Brownells. Its graphite and cheap priced. I saw a Troy at a gun show, nice machining. But I am a little skeptical of metal grips since my issue. Good Luck.

supposedly sticking your muzzle out of a window will give your position away.

It also allows anyone on the other side to have access to your weapon without your control.

Presenting a weapon past a barrier (door jam, window etc. ) is just a bad practice as well from the perspective view.

Back off the hole a little and you have just as a good a view through the hole and nothing allowing your weapon to compromise you.

The basic concept is similar to why we teach shooters to back off of a barricade a little when shooting from behind it. It protects you from what may be on the other side and allows you to engage targets while minimizing your exposure.

YES I get the basic concept that the image was made while playing a game (AKA 3 gun competition or IDPA whatever) where there is no threat and that is a known factor.

However: train the way you'll play and play the way you train.

If you shoot competition sports based on combative firearms scenarios then you you should shoot with solid combatives in mind.

Because if, or when the time comes and its not a game you will default to the habits. If they are bad habits you are at greater risk of failure.

All I said was it was ****ing with ME. My experience & training tells me that image is a shooter who is potentially a failure in a gunfight.

OH, and for the record:
A. The 9 hole drill intent as stated was to make a guy workout while wearing all his kit on a static range.
B. The shooter was actually using the unstable barricade to support himself and the firearm (yeah I think that's bad too).
C. The VTAC video doesn't mean its right.

AGAIN: MY APOLOGIES TO THE GROUP FOR THE SIDE TRACK I DIDN'T MEAN TO HIJACK THE THREAD. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO FOLLOW UP ON MY COMMENTS PLEASE PM ME.

Playing a game is not training. You play to win. You train to fight. There is a difference. And in real life if you found yourself on a low port with your barrel sticking out not a big deal.

I had originally put an oly plinker plus on layaway and posted another thread asking if the plinker would be a good buy. I spent numerous hours reading different boards about what I should look for in a decent AR15 for under $1000. I came to the conclusion the Oly would not meet my needs.

So, I went back to my local gun-store and looked around for about an hour at their AR's. I took 3 to the counter. One was a Saber, another was a smith and wesson M&P moe, and an armalite 15A4CBA2K. The Saber and Armalite was similar in price, the S&W was about $200 more.

I chose the flattop armalite 15A4CBA2K, it was listed at $1030. I was able to purchase it for $897before taxes.

The specs are... Caliber: .223/5.56mm NATO
Barrel: 16" Double Lapped, Chrome Lined\Chrome Moly Vanadium
Rifling Twist: RH 1:9"
Muzzle Device: Flash Suppressor
Front Sight Base: A2 Front Sight Assembly
Upper Receiver: Forged Flattop with Picatinny Rail
Trigger: Two Stage Tactical, Approximately 5-6 lbs.
Overall Length: 35.6"
Weight: 7 lbs
Finish: Anodized Aluminum Upper/Lower Receiver, Manganese Phosphated Steel Barrel
Accuracy: 2 - 2 1/2" MOA
Included with Rifle: One 30 Round Magazine, Sling, Black Case, Owner's Manual, Limited Lifetime Warranty.

My wife, son, and myself shot 100 rounds through it without any problems. I love this Rifle!

Thanks. It's been fun trying out different things and mixing and matching until I got them to a point where comfort and function seemed to meet. Of course making them look cool is right up in the mix. :)

I'm pretty content with the current configurations. I need to spend more quality time behind them going forward for a real test.

Bummed the April Magpul class in Phoenix didn't materialize. Keeping my ear open for other opportunities for training in the Phoenix area for the future (my folks live there so it makes logistics easier). I really don't want to invest much in classes here in California struggling with bullet buttons.

Nice knives. What is the little one, and how much do each run?

The Yarborough with the serial number should have been free :)

Well, if you can call surviving SFQC "Free", well earned is more like it.

But can be purchased without the serial number

I really like the Burris. The reticle is very fast and pinpoint accurate. I'm also T&Eing a Trijicon Accupoint TR24 with the green triangle reticle which is pretty nice too.

Considering it is limited division, I'm guessing two different zeros. The carry handle for longer range shots and the MBUS for close range shots.

Im guessing for the shorter sight base for up close shots. Its for his Tac-Iron/Limited Class rifle for Multi-gun competitions.

That mount is awesome..... It's just that the tailcap on the G2 spins too easily (to constant on) and the button can be easily activated when you don't want it to be.

Here's what I'm going to.... I can put this gun into a case with the light mounted and not worry about the light getting activated!

This might be a really dumb question but why do you have the BUIS mounted that way and have the carry handle as well on the second rifle?

Both of those are 3gun rifles. Both meant to follow the rules of USPSA multigun and the various levels of 3gun I shoot. On the 2nd rifle, the foliage and black one the side mounted irons are only for close range. These are sighted in for 15yds POA/POI but I can make torso hits on targest to 25yds. The carry handle has a NM hooded rear aperture and the Daniel Defense rail mounted front sight has a NM front sight post. These are very accurate and sighted in for 200yds however they are very slow for up close targets and I would have to worry about hold over etc. With the close range Magpul MBUS sights used it they way are both fast and accurate enough for the job.

That's a Benny Hill Rolling Thunder (it's insanely loud!). It's on with a drop of Rocksett. WAR Rifles installed it after thinning the barrel to .650" under the rail and made the brake time correctly without the use of any washers. Then blended it so that it looks like it's just part of the barrel and bead blasted it.

The barrel is a BCM SS410 Midlength 16" 1x8 twist.

I can't even being to imagine how in the hell the Turks, Germans, Italians, French, Brits, Aussies, Japanese, Chi-Coms, and every other arms carrying nation ever survived without MPI this and HP shot penned that. I also can't understand how my dozens of firearms prior to this one ever functioned without chrome lined barrels. Perhaps we need to inform our adversaries that they're carrying around second rate junk and that their weapons aren't suitable for people whose lives depend on them. Perhaps they will lay down their arms knowing that their AK's don't have MPI'd bolts and chrome lined barrels.

Looks good! I just picked up a rear KAC from EE on TOS for the same rifle... Hows the sight pic with the T1? I am running the same setup with the LMT front sight base.

This isn't my build, but rather a close friend of mine's who is a rather well known gunsmith that specializes in Savage rifles. Pretty much everything on it other than the receivers and BCG are custom one-off pieces. Guess the winter doldrums/cabin fever finally got to him. lol

Well, it's finally together!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/sharp-shooter/green4.jpg
The gas tube is inverted, directing the gas to the collar behind the barrel nut which re-directs around a groove in the collar back to on top. The screw is a needle valve to adjust gas flow.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/sharp-shooter/latchless.jpg
I made a "latchless" charging handle for using your right hand to cycle the bolt. It is retained in the upper with a detent ball.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/sharp-shooter/triggershoe.jpg
My fingers are longer than most so I made a trigger shoe to lengthen the pull slighly. I got rid of the standard trigger guard and made a winter style and roll pinned it on both ends.

The hole in the scope rail is for a quick detach brass catcher. I had an old E&L brass catcher box that I modified for a linch pin mount.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/sharp-shooter/brasscatch1.jpg

The pin has a groove which holds it against a detent ball in the scope rail.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/sharp-shooter/brasscatch2.jpg

Oh....did I mention this thing has a Savage factory barrel on it?

I saw those KAC sights for sale on TOS and was under the impression they were the standard version, not the micro?

It's ironic that they teach a whole separate grip technique (followed by the sale of the AFG), then produce their own VFG.

I suppose everyone likes money :p

Ultimately, yes, it's a business and it's about money. BUT at the same time, I think it also has to do with the fact that they know that not everyone will use the AFG or want to use the AFG.

Stickman, are you by any chance a Spacer? Those of us born on Earth prefer "right-side-up"pics. Those of you born in orbit or deep space of course have no need for traditional "up-and-down" attitudes, given your zero-G lifestyle, but those of us trapped in gravity wells find such views to be diconcerting.

That mount is awesome..... It's just that the tailcap on the G2 spins too easily (to constant on) and the button can be easily activated when you don't want it to be.

Go to Ace Hardware, buy a rubber O-ring that fits between the cap and the body. I don't remember the specs on the one that that's thick enough to prevent it from spinning to constant on unintentionally but will still allow it by hand.

I know it seems like I went backwards with the upper... but I decided that since I do not run optics and I got the upper, A2, cheap I would switch the barrel, which I can not do much with as it has a permanent flashhider, and save the A4 for a better build at a later date...

Yup, it's a work optic. I prefer the Aimpoint myself. In regards to the select-fire RRA, my previous gun worked 100%, but then it got held against my will. This one works fairly reliably...it choked and short-stroked after the first round on a moving target at SWAT Round-Up, costing me 30 seconds in penalties and a lot of faith in it. Other guns that we have had needed to be sent back to the factory at initial receipt because they were not at all able to be expected to work reliably on full-auto. And as time goes by, a few go down every year and need to be sent back for service. I wish we had gone with a Colt Commando or LMT 10.5" since they are more commonly used as select-fire weapons. I trusted my life to these RRA rifles on full-auto, but I probably wouldn't again...I'd keep it semi. Just not enough solid performance in my experience.

Thanks for the compliment though!:D

Brand spankin' new member here. Here are the first pics I have snapped of my AR. It is a Colt LE6920. Have only had it for a month. Only mods so far are the MOE stock and some 30rd Magpul PMAGs I picked up for it. Have put about 500 rounds through it so far, and haven't experienced a single hiccup. I'm lovin it. Just got 500 more rounds in the mail (PMC FMJ's. Mostly for plinking) and picked up some Hornady TAP rounds (75gr) for the zombies. Future plans include an Aimpoint CompML3. Maybe some other goodies too, but we'll see. I think I may look into a 1911 before modding the AR.

Anyways, here are the pics. Just was playin around with the macro function, and didn't have a tripod handy.

Thanks. I can't give you an exact time frame, but I've been using it a lot this previous year. I didn't properly degrease the surface prior to painting...which accounts for a lot of wear. Cleaning solvents over time also slowly ate away at the paint as well.

GAM,

Take a lot of pictures, and keep a notebook. Write down or draw pictures in the book when you find shots that you like. Once you have the lighting figured out and drawn out in your book, you can recreate the shots when you need to. Then its a matter of working on being creative with your layouts.

If you are looking for the easiest way to take pictures, shoot them on an overcast day, or if thats not possible, in the shade. Its hard to mess up shots on cloudy or overcast days.

When in doubt, use concrete or dirt as a background.
