Yeah, but there's something magical about yours. Maybe it's the lighting?

;)

Case in point, look at the photo above that Stick just posted. That man has an eye for lighting, at best I'm groping around in the dark and occasionally get a shot that comes close.

Stick, as usual, you're a talented bastard. Well done.

a "nip slip" is when a woman's nipple pops out of her shirt. generally caught on camera, and posted on the internet. it's become very fashionable in celebrity circles.

I made a few changes for upgrades and to decrease weight.

Latest iteration:
Replaced the G2 w/a weapon light and SR07 tape switch w/momentary and constant switch
Exchanged the UTG hand guards w/a basic ladder style hand guard
Swapped out stubby VFG for Magpul AFG
Removed Redi-Mag and spare magazine

Nice setup. That is one long can, who makes it?

Thanks. It's a YHM .30cal w/QD Phantom so I can throw it on my .308 rifles and what not too. A little big/heavy for the smaller .223 but it's a small price to pay for versatility. I may get a dedicated .223/5.56 can at some point to cut down on weight even further. I have a .338 Lapua project that is taking my focus at the time though.

I decided I wanted the VFG on there too since when I go AMBI, it feels much more natural to me to use the VFG than the AFG.
Another thing I like about the VFG is when standing at ease or manuevering around obstacles or over walls, it gives a convenient handle to better manuever or hold the weapon. I also like it better when using the Urban Prone, but for straight up shooting, I like the AFG.

I did move the dot back a few notches but it's still pretty far up. So far I like it, it doesn't make it too front heavy or anything...I'm going to run it through some matches and a class or two and see how I like it after that.

I also have an AFG on there now as well...I wasn't going to use it until I stippled it. HUGE difference.

I'm not out to knock before I try, but it's the first Magpul product that I haven't been itching to buy.

I've gotten in the habit of not bolting anything to my smokewagon that doesn't demonstrably improve performance, or provide for a need.

It seems to me like, to use a cliche, a solution in search of a problem.

I won't come out and say it. Oh **** it. It seems totally ghey; however, that being said, I haven't tried it. I thought Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was totally ghey when my buddies talked me into getting into it. After I had my ass kicked by a 17 year old half my weight, it didn't seem so fruity...

I was sceptical until last week when I was handed a T&E unit to mount on my rifle at the beginning of a carbine course. At the end of day one I was ambivalent about it. At the end of day three I became a believer.

This is a product I will NOT buy until I can try. Did you do any urban prone position shooting with it? That's where my imagination sees a weak link and where I see it being < a VFG.

I had a T&E one from them mounted for a month or so, shooting about 10 mags every weekend. I couldn't quite warm up to it as it wasn't angled enough for me to provide the rearward leverage I was accustomed to with a VFG, so I switched back. I have come to the conclusion that the AFG is not for everyone (Me), but a lot of folks like it.

I received an AFG from Magpul (thanks again, Drake) and figured I'd try it since it was free. So far I really like it... but I haven't gotten a lot of range time with it yet. If you turn the little A2 nubby thing backwards you don't need to do all the fancy stippling...

Had a UBR and a TA11 on here for 3-gun, but for the Magpul Precision class I put on a PRS and 3-15 Premier Reticle Mil-dot scope. Shoots like a dream. Had it out to the range today and shot the Internet Commando 3-shoot group below. (PRVI 75gr 223 ammo. I could kick myself, I left some Hornady 75 Black Hills Blue box 77gr 223 at home  ) Not a spectacular group, but that dog will hunt.

I think the real testament of the JP/LMOS/brake system, along with the quality of the Geissele trigger and Premier scope is that I let the dad and 15 year old kid in the next booth shoot it. The kid was being taught some basics on a iron-sight 22lr rifle. The kid shot an AR for the first time and put 6 rounds in a group the size of a half-dollar, which was better than his dad did :D

Getting rid of Crapco is always a good choice. They used to have some reputable stuff for FALs and even AKs, but in the last 7 years or so, their stuff has been mostly crap.
Looks like a sweet setup now: the next step if I were you is to lose the BSA RDS and get an Aimpoint. :D

Maybe next tax season. Optics are pricey. almost more than rifles themselves

You can get an Aimpoint ML2/Larue set for around $500 or find it used for around $400 and be set with a quality optic.

I googled it and it looks like something I might get at. I was really in the market for the acog with the doctor site on it. which is the cheapest $900 something

This is the first rifle that I have painted and will probably be my last.It gets used quite a bit running around Pineland and the Brownell's Aluma Hyde II seems to be holding up very well. This rifle has caused and will continue to cause a lot of Pineland ODA's to have bad dreams.;)

When I asked what JFreuler used to make the pattern, and he responded with a "heavy duty lace" from a "lace store", I just preferred to assume it was some tactical jargon that I wasn't familiar with rather than going to the craft store and being seen in the lace aisle. Although, my bulletproof vest has been looking shabby and could use a little rejuvenation.

Here is details

AnvilArm lower with custom Punisher Skull engraved
YHM flat top Upper with M4 feedramp
YHM Light Weight Free Float 4 Rail Forearm
YHM Phantom FH
YHM Sling adapter
DPMS BCM
DPMS LPK
DPMS Forword Assist
DPMS Skinny barrel
HighStandard ejection port cover
JP Enterprise AntiWalk Pin
Budger Ordnance tactical latch
MagPul MOE grip
MagPul CTR stock
MagPul enhanced trigger guard
TangoDown rail cover
TangoDown vertical grip
AimPoint Comp M2
SOG Armory Cantilever mount
ProMag BUIS(wife bought it for me for X-mass. Its staying on! Its really not that bad)
Lancer L7's(bought all of 6 - L7 my local shop had. )
CAA single point sling(not in pic)

I also drilled/tapped lower reciever to accept machined screw to hold rear take down detent/spring in place.

Had one minor issue with light primer strike, but was easily fixed(had hammer spring installed backwords)

I haven't sight the weapon in yet since I got AimPoint yet(Had to visit in-law's in People's Republic of New York this past weekend).
I do have slight issue with gun shooting bit to the right. I can correct it by moving BUIS, but its due to canted FSB(slot for FSB pins are machined slightly off. So I'm guessing I'll likely replace FSB with something that'll fold, and attachs to barrel without the pin in future.
I also not too keen on vertical foregrip. I'm ordering Magpul AFG in Dark Earth.
And I'm also not liking Tangodown's rail cover(makes forend wider, and I don't like it), so I'm also going to replace it with MagPul's ladder type in Dark Earth(not to mention so that all the DE will match)
I'll also going to change SOG Armory Cantilever mount with Larue tactical unit.
Thats what I was going to get, but I was short of money at the time...

Looks like an SR07 to me. The last set of numbers is length in inches and I know they make them longer... just not sure if you can get one only 2" long. As for shortening them, I have one of these and don't see a way this can be done as far as trimming and reconnecting or shortening.

The board recently setup a pictures size limit of 1024x768, so you might want to resize your image (or risk it getting pulled).

Couple of variations on our PD-issued 6721s. Two with the issue elzetta mount/G2 light mount (which works very well for us) and one with a SF light (personally -owned). Mine's the one on the left w/ the ACOG, center is an Aimpoint C3, R is the EO XPS. I switched to the MS-2 sling right after this - also put on a BAD (which so far I'm not digging to much).

Ive since added an aimpoint T-1, a few Pmags, one of those composite countdown magazines, and a magpul MOE grip.

The magpul MS2 sling is on there, and I also added an agency single point sling adapter, because the normal QD sling mounts kinda get in the way of the safety.

Jonny: If the pics are fuzzy then its probably the camera. Olympus isn't exactly synonymous with quality...

If they are blurry like the camera isn't being held completely still, then you need more light and faster shutter speeds or a tripod.

My old canon powershot A540 was capable of some really good pictures with a little patience.

You can't tell the difference in pictures that I post online regardless of what camera I use, that goes for using my old little 4MP Olympus, or the 21MP Canon 1Dsmk3.

For web viewing, its a matter of lighting, layout and proper camera use.

A BAD will still help you greatly with malfunctions, which in my eyes is the main benefit. If I am not mistaken you lack the ability to lock the bolt to the rear with those KAC ambi controls. Don't get me wrong, that's an outstanding piece of kit but a BAD lever could greatly increase your weapons manipulation efficiency

I dont see how its usable in the way Magpul teaches its use on a short rail.
To me it seems like it was designed to be used all the way out on a middy.

PriestFoxley: Yeah, I am left handed too, but use a b.a.d. on my both my KAC E3's for when I am shooting right handed. The only problem is that with certain ammo the b.a.d. causes the bolt to fail to lock back after the round.

JBecker 72
03-14-10, 00:08
Ive only had that happen with lower quality ammo like Q3131A1 and PMC bronze.
M193, M855, and heavier gr TAP ammo all cycle properly and lock the bolt to the rear on the last round.

Since that photo was taken, the rear one was reversed to give an extra inch of sight picture.
The front one was left as-is.

I guess that little "R" and the arrow on the rear sight windage knob is just there for looks. Your theory also runs counter to the installation instructions. See step 2, below.

http://store.magpul.com/downloads/MBUS%205x7_090514_Update.pdf

Before being too critical, try it. You might be suprised at what you'll learn.
It's not a theory. You will find that the part works just fine in either orientation.
'R' and 'L' isn't too hard to figure out.

And for the record, note that I said that I did turn the rear around later for an extra inch of sight picture.
The front was left as-is because the release is easier to activate and retract with my thumb while maintaining my grip on the AFG.

This is the third or fourth top end this lower has seen over the last six years. It started out as a simple rebarrel, all of the old upper I ended up reusing on this carbine was the MBUS, handguards, gas tube and gas tube roll pin. I swear to God, if you put loose AR parts in a dark box they reproduce!

Thanks! Foregrip is from a guy on TOS - look in the Magpul section. It's pretty light - around 6 1/2 pounds, but I need to reweigh it after the rebuild and the new XPS.

I put one on a 16" LaRue Stealth upper, and walked away after a few hundred rounds of 5.56 feeling dazed, and had a headache. It worked in keeping the muzzle down but the trade off it not work it. Every shot was like someone hitting me on the head with a mallet.

First off, Thanks for the compliments fellas!

I put one on a 16" LaRue Stealth upper, and walked away after a few hundred rounds of 5.56 feeling dazed, and had a headache. It worked in keeping the muzzle down but the trade off it not work it. Every shot was like someone hitting me on the head with a mallet.

This is a bit strange as the concussion and blast is directed to the sides, and you should be the last to be effected.

the guys paired up next to you on the line must have been loving it, haha ;)

I have heard both sides. Personally it has never bothered me even in the slightest. I have attended multiple classes where I was in between them on both sides, even in some cases on SBRs. Never once bothered me. Through out that entire Magpul HVWM class that CAPTKIRK posted my picture from (thanks Rob!) I never got a complaint from anyone on my sides... Anyways, it all comes down to what works for you. That's why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors.

Cheers

TOS = The Other Site as in AR15 dot com... The person you quoted isn't running an AFG, his response stated that he is running a custom piece made by someone on TOS... Perhaps you may have been talking about my AFG... You can ether do it yourself, it is not to hard... Or if you don't have the confidince or patience, then I would suggest boresightsolutions.com as they do phenomenal work.

Here is a better shot of the stippling I did on my AFG:

Just out of curiosity, is the afg of any use on a car rail or any other rail when seated so far back and close to the receiver? I can't imagine it would be.

Here is an updated pic of my rifle:
Bushy 14.5 M4 style with phantom permanently mounted

http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/qq311/shrockster/DSCF1007.jpg

I have done some looking at other rifles and such and this is very comfortable for me, 5'10", although I wouldn't mind trying it a little further out on the rails... but as you can see this is as far as i can put it.

I've been doing a little tinkering with my LMT 14.5" upper and ended up with this.

http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/IMG_3966.jpg

http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/DSC_2373.jpg

I experimented with shaving my gas block down and ultimately used a DD low profile block because I ran out of patience with the grinding. That's a 14" DD Lite Rail with a phantom FH at the end.
http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/IMG_3972.jpg

Not exactly a lightweight upper, but it has been fun to shoot and actually handles pretty well. I still need to weigh it on an accurate scale, I'm guessing it's around 9lbs loaded out with 30 rounds.
I haven't benched it on anything longer than a 25 yard range yet so I've basically only got it on paper striking a little over an inch low.

The household now has a bunch of fun rifles to choose from. I own the tactical butter knife and the two rifles on the right.

http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/DSC_2385.jpg

I'm done for a while. I think the next project is going to be built around an N4 barrel to go with that Noveske lower when budget allows.
Who makes that butter knife? Did you mod it yourself or have someone with a cnc machine help you?
