BTW, I was wondering if you're still really liking the Magpul ACS stock and running it on your duty gun? I remember you said in your initial review that you T&E'd it for a good while before putting it on your duty carbine, and said you planned on keeping it there for the time being, so I was just curious.

I'm running an ACS on my duty rifle. I like the length of pull with the stock fully collapsed and I like the cheek weld over OEM and the CTR stocks.

Love the FG! Best color option out there for most environments if you ask me. Too bad my work rifle has to stay black.

On a side note: When will someone start making a concrete grey color, maybe even with specks of black and brown, for us city/urban guys? Hey, Magpul, what's it gonna take? If you're too busy, just give me some of you resources and I'll get it done.

Thanks dude (you too FMJs!). I'd like to take some updated pics of it now that I've ran her a bit, and the can especially looks nice and used now, but my damn wife took our good Canon camera AND my normal digital camera (the latter was accidental) with her when she went out of town last week, so I got nothing to even take pics with:mad:

All I've got is a digital HD video camcorder, but it's only used to capture digital video to upload straight onto the computer, and nothing else. It strangely has no picture-taking abilities whatsoever, which is kinda lame.

No, I was actually in a big hurry and being impatient as hell. I just wanted to quickly get the pics of my 11.5" and 14.5" middy BCMs, with and without the can on both. I was hoping the rest of the carbine would divert attention away from that, but apparently not, eh there "Eagle Eye Belmont?":)

Well aren't we just the comedians tonight.:p

For your information, there is actually a single black XTM half that's stippled underneath the rail in front of the FUG, you just can't really see it.... ah shit, that's not really helping my case here. But I do promise that not long after those pics were taken I've stippled all but 3 of the black XTMs on that upper. Honestly, I have!:)

Here is a video of my suppressed SBR from last week at the range. Like I said, I don't have any updated pics so this is all I've got for now, and it's not that exciting. I only fire a whopping 3 rounds because I was testing something for comparison to something else.

Dude, it is time to stop posting pictures and start reading the information contained on this site. Seriously.

First of all bkb is right, that scope is WAY WAY WAY too high. You need to be mounting it to the flat top.

Secondly I look at these rifles and they look like they got hit by an airsoft shit storm. Take that crap off of there, mount that EOTech on the rail, buy ammo and take a class. Everything else will follow if you get some proper training.

Just picked this up a few weeks ago, its a RRA.

https://www.m4carbine.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=4742&stc=1&d=1270951081

Got the aimpoint for it last week, took it to the range and shot this from 50 yards while sighting it in. Thats 8 shots, one of them almost went in the same hole.

https://www.m4carbine.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=4743&stc=1&d=1270951081
And no I wasnt drinking while shooting lol... Took that when I got home and the cap was just handy to compare size to.

And for anyone interested, that is just some krylon camo paint I picked up at the auto parts store. I think it looks great and the finish is nice.

I hate being a broke badass-guns-and-kit owner...:D a lot of what you see was bought very recently all around the same timeframe, that's just how it worked out. But because it worked out that way, I won't be buying any new shit for quite a few months, other than ammo to feed my current inventory.:(

I'm wanting a BCM 12.5" Kino upper, Larue OBR, KAC NT4-QDSS, 2 more aimpoint micro T-1s, and a PVS-14 to call my own so I can see my damned PEQ-15's IR laser/illuminator anytime I want to (for now I have a friend who has a friend with a spare one I can use when we meet up for some night shooting)! But I will say that I'm definitely very happy with what I have at the moment.

As for the stippling, here's a copy and paste from a PM I just wrote to another member inquiring about it:

I did the stippling by myself with a $15 soldering iron I bought from Home Depot. It's easy to do once you get the hang of it. Be warned though, if you don't have patience (or OCD like me) then you will rush the stippling and it'll look like shit. It takes me around 20-25 minutes to do one full XTM panel (i.e. both halves of the panel). Everyone's hands are different, so how aggressive you make it is up to you. Mine aren't too aggressive, they're pretty much like grip tape only much better feeling and looking, because my hands are always ****ed up from pushing my wheelchair around. After I'm done with a section I'll take some really fine sandpaper and very carefully smooth down the edges, and also any small burrs or specs of stippling that is too sharp and jagged.

I have been using that optic/mount on a BCM A2 profile midlength for awhile without issue.

What you see in that picture is what I think everyone's first AR should look like given current tech/market status. I know some will argue you need a light right out of the gate but I disagree and think you need daylight training first. That rifle will do drills duty going forward as I have everything there I need to demonstrate various skills and nothing there to confuse folks or make them think that what I'm demonstrating is gear-based or gear-enhanced. It's also all top-shelf capable equipment that costs the same as many people will put into far lesser gear in search of a "look".

ETA:
Base carbine is 6 lbs 2 oz. without the optic and sling. C3 + ADM mount is just shy of 11oz for a total package of about 6.75 lbs.

Wow.. That looks so awesome!

What's the biggest difference between a carbine and mid length?

lower gas tube pressures (would think this equates to lower wear on BCG also)
lower recoil impulse
more reliable extraction
increased sight radius
more handguard real estate

middy has many advantages over carbine gas systems, I dont see any advantages carbine has over middy. I only have middys for my 16" uppers. If you browse around at people on this site making new builds, the middy is becoming extremely popular.

RetreatHell, I am glad to see you add some Tan parts to your BCM/KAC SBR. It looks a lot better.

Thanks, but it's actually a different upper and lower altogether. I have 2 of the BCM 11.5"+KAC URX II uppers. One is the one with the Triple Tap, which is all black. The other one (pictured above) is set up for primarily suppressed use and has FDE mixed in.

So that means you practically called my all-black upper "ugly." Thanks.

Just kidding;) I appreciate the compliments, man.

It is much lighter than I expected

When I picked up my M4v3 from the FFL, one of the counter guys who has a military and security background commented positively on how light it felt. It does handle nicely, that's for sure.

I had a Gear Sector sling and a Streamlight TLR-1 weaponlight sitting around that both work well enough for the time being, so until I make a final decision on an optic, about all I intend to do in the near term is get an MOE grip, ditch the (too long for me) VFG and get some more practice time.

My v3 takes all the PMAGS and 30-round magazines laying around the house, but oddly balks at latching some of the NHMTG 20 round mags that I bought in late 2008 and early 2009; so far, that has been the only quirk that has cropped up. It really seems to be a lot of carbine for the money and makes me wish I had gone the middy route a lot sooner than I did.

ForTehNguyen
04-13-10, 08:51
govt middy will be slightly lighter than a govt carbine because there is more barrel under the handguard to be machined into govt profile

04-13-10, 09:21
Great choice. I don't know why Daniel Defense didn't come out with that setup as their first rifle, instead of the carbine gas with 12" FSP. Not that there's anything wrong with that one, but your configuration would have been a better seller, IMHO.

I love my EOTech XPS optic but the Aimpoint's just seem to look better mounted on the gun........ The XPS looks blocky and bulky but the Aimpoint looks sleek and aerodynamic......

I’m not about to change but I wish they could get a good industrial designer to figure out how to make it look like it wasn’t designed by a 1970’s era Soviet engineer ;)

My rifles. I don't have a range report yet as I am still recovering from some surgery.

I couldn't help showing them off a little. I hope I don't get flamed. The Noveske lower on the Noveske is not a blem and has colt parts. THe BCM has a BCM BCG and charging handle. The rest is probably obvious to the members of this board. Thanks to all the posters for pointing my in the right direction.

As far as the light goes, the next thing that rifle needs is midlengh MOE handguards.

Without the magazine, optic and sling, and with the A2 grip instead of the MOE, it's 6 lb 1.1 oz. It saves 3.6 oz. over the exact same setup with the standard GI barrel profile, but because the weight savings is all forward of the front sight base it feels much lighter and balances better in the hands IMHO.

I moved the AFG to the rear as far as it can go because that suits my style of rifle handling...I like to have my support hand near the balance point of the rifle (in this case, back near the magazine well).

Olight M30 triton rural illuminator on a fancy lug mount that I suspect will disintegrate when I fire one round.

Must have been hard getting all that AWESOME into one pic :D

Very nice, Brother!!!

As hard as it was, and believe me there were many challenges and hardships I endured, I never gave up and pressed forward, and was actually able to get ALL of the awesome into this single pic. I know, I know.... (waits for applause) :p:D

Thanks bro!

Gotta find a rear sight to go with the Vltor flip up. I also have to lift the H1 a little to co witness. The next change will be to a PWS flash/comp.

Hey man, that's nothing to joke about! It happens ALL THE TIME!!! You gotta be prepared for shit like phone booth combat and porta-potty combat as well!

We should all be as prepared as you, with full auto lowers:D Good on you;)

Nice blaster, man. Does it ever have any issues cycling the bolt 100% of the time with that rifle-length stock? Short-stroking, FTE, FTL or anything? You ever think about swapping out the rifle stock for a carbine-length 6-position buffer tube and collapsible stock?

Yes it was dipped by a company in SC called Streamline Customs.

Reminds me of a vid I saw from Iraq of some Marines practicing entry drills on a porta-potty as a joke! :D

Paul, the Sun Devil 6.5" (pistol) upper is normally on this configuration and runs 100% in FA:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/Z06M16A1/Title%202%20Toys/LILDevilMGC16.jpg
The A1 fixed buttstock & grip was on when I was shooting 200 yard targets with the A1 20" upper. The "A1" rifle shown in the above pic is a MGW16 prop rifle as used in "Full Metal Jacket".

Got a new upper (new to me) really happy with it, has Centurion Arms 16 inch lightweight middy barrel with pinned front sight post, Daniel Defense 9 inch lite rail, Vltor mur upper, BCM gunfighter charging handle, Larue rear sight, and the other stuff was traded off to it from my old upper. I still need to get an optic for it deciding between an eotech xps or an aimpoint. I traded my acog which I loved with the trd on it but need a none magnified optic because I want to run co-witness irons and am going to be doing a lot more close up work with my rifle.
