Quib, nice blaster, brother!

Hey man, do you use the standard A2 pistol grip because you prefer it over the aftermarket grip options out there, or because you're trying to keep in spec of the .mil issued M4? And the trigger guard?

I’m just one of those few I guess, that are content with the A2 grip. I really have no reason to look into others. I’ve had my hands around the A2 grip since 1987, I think anything else would feel kinda strange.

i started using ergos at some point, then switched to tangos- basically anything else feels weird.. but the A2s still remind me of pussy.

but i do still use standard trigger guards.. why not? unless you live in alaska, it's nothing more than an aesthetic thing. nothing wrong with that, but thats what it is.

Negative, bro. It's more than just looks, it's primarily about comfort by getting rid of the gap. I think you weren't thinking of that since you have the Tango Down grips, which cover the gap and make the Magpul enhanced trigger guard unnecessary.

Now the KAC combat trigger guard on the other hand, is purely about aesthetics (and for some I suppose, thick gloves), as it doesn't even cover the gap for some lame ass reason. That's why within the first hour of owning my KAC SR-15 E3 carbine I swapped out the KAC trigger guard and replaced it with the better Magpul version, and within a few days I sold the KAC trigger guard in the Equipment Exchange here on M4Carbine.

i stand totally corrected- you're right. using grips that cover the gap, i don't associate the guards with the gap.

the gapper rocks.. and if i recall, i think they're the whole reason i got sold on the ergo grips from the A2. they used to come with one (probably still do). otherwise, i'd probably still use the A2s. they're good grips, and i think probably perfectly suit most shooters anyway.

I use MOE's and A2's. I've been using Gappers since around 2006 or so.

Damn, brother... this is without a doubt your best "action shot" to date. It usually takes me 20+ shots to try and get a pic of a decent muzzle flash, but it's very rare to get one that perfect when it's literally right at the climax (in the rain too!). Nicely done.;)

It's been a few months now since I've shown my 11.5" BCM/KAC URX II upper any love, since I've gotten a few other toys lately. But seeing this pic of you blasting away with yours makes me want to take her out and abuse her a bit.

Damn that KAC Inconnel Flash Hider really is NOT a flash hider!

It's not a flash hider though, it's a muzzle brake only. Not sure if that's what you meant to say.

But it really depends on what ammo you run through it. They all perform very differently. The hotter the load (i.e. .mil ammo, etc..), te bigger and brighter, and more concussive, the blast.

Here's my 11.5" BCM+Triple Tap being fired at night. The FIRST 5 rounds are M855 62gr green tips, followed by 4 rouns of 55gr PMC ammo. There's a HUGE difference here:

http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv219/RetreatHell/Shooting%20Vids/th_VID00088.jpg (http://s685.photobucket.com/albums/vv219/RetreatHell/Shooting%20Vids/?action=view&current=VID00088.flv)

Pretty crazy, huh? During the day it doesn't matter what ammo you use or how bright the flash is. But at night, in very dark conditions, I've found that your natural night vision is ****ed every time you squeeze the trigger with hot ammo using the Triple Tap. That's why Titleist has a KAC NT4 coming soon:)

Oooh oh oh! Page 300! Cherry popped. Nice work!

I used the cleaning shim a few weeks ago to clean out excess carbon from the grooves on the triple tap, but it really comes down to the barrel length in combination with that flashhider. It's JUST really prone to flashing. In fact it flashes almost every single shot, it took me and a friend about 50 photos (canon 5D on continous mode) to even capture the flash, but it's in every single time you pull the trigger.

Crappy photo, but it gives you and idea of how big the flash is:

because when you're engaging targets at 50 meters and closer (hell even 100 meters on in) a flash is what is going to get you killed . It's for a carbine, now if you where set up in a hide with a bolt gun and you had a flash like that you might have some issues.

My avatar pic is me and my son shooting my AR. He was 4 at the time. He is now 6 and getting real good on his own with his Walther P22 and his M&P 15-22. He also is a great listener. I just wish he would listen at home like he does on the firing line!

You do the stippling on those rail covers pal? Looking good:)

Negative. My buddy Titleist did those KAC covers for me several months back. He did a great job on them! I stippled the AFG, my XTM covers, several PMAGs and 2 of my Glocks. I started on my own KAC rail panel, but quit before I'd even ground half of the ribs down because I only use XTM covers. Never liked to use the KAC covers really.

But for whatever reason, I love having them on this SPR setup. They just feel "right."

That's awesome, man! How did you start him off and at what age? Did you use a .22 conversion in the AR15 before having him step up to 5.56?

i've had him helping me clean and showing him field strip/reassembly and parts/components ID since he was about 4 1/2. we started weekly-ish dry-firing and manips at home a couple months before his 5th birthday. i wanted to get him a rifle for his birthday, but never did decide on what, and never did get him anything- i'd originally intended on starting with a bolt-gun in a low-pressure caliber, progressively working him up and all that.. but he's so focused and follows direction so well, that by the time i decided he was ready, shortly after his 5th birthday (May), we just went straight to the carbine with xm193.

i loaded him a 20-rounder, put one hand under the stock and one on the handguard, told him to put the iron on target.. when he said he was ready, i rotated him to SEMI and said to fire when ready. he wiggled around for another moment, put his little finger on the trig, and BANG.... literally straight through the X at 15m. the other 19 came in at vary degrees of accuracy, as he worked on staying focused, but at least 15 rounds out of the mag were within a fist. damn fine job, if you ask me, and i let him know how proud i was.

It's not a flash hider though, it's a muzzle brake only. Not sure if that's what you meant to say.

I must be mistaken but I thought that was the KAC Iconnel "Flash Hider" shown here on the KAC website (http://www.knightarmco.com/mod_weapons_4.htm).

LOL! They can call it a "flash hider" or whatever the hell else they'd like, but a flash hider it is NOT.:p

The Triple Tap hides the flash about as good as that KX3 you've got on your SBR!;)

So I guess that means BATFE classified it as a flash hider then? At least I hope that's why they'd call it a FH.

The box says compensator. Probably just a communication issue between the web developer and KAC.

I only notice flash in mine during the day about every 4-5 shots. Have not shot at night.

I also doubt any of us are going to be using these in conditions where it would be an issue unless you plan on getting in a prolonged firefight at night down your street. I would not use a TP in a military setting or on a duty gun (nor any other brake/comp for the same reasons). I think it will be fine if on the off chance I have to shoot a burglar and the gun with the TP happens to be the closest at hand. Other than that less than 1% odds its just a range/training gun, and the benefits to TP are worth it for me. Its not much louder than an A2 (on a 16" gun), and keeps the muzzle rise to a minimum. I can shoot next to other people, and it doesn't ring their bell nor mine. You can shoot on your side, and its not going to kick up a bunch of dirt/dust.

Put this together the other night. I've had all the components pictured for a long while now, just never combined them together in this setup. Basically, I want the new BCM Mk 12 Mod 0 upper, but can't afford it right now. So this is my attempt at having something sort of similar for now. I think I really like it though:)

What do you guys think?

Haha, I feel the same about the KAC panels. I stippled my XTM panels and used them for a few weeks before I stippled my KAC panels. I then used the KAC panels for a few months, but went back to the XTMs because they just felt more secure. I might go back to the KACs later, just because I spent a bit of time stippling those suckers (KAC panels). Rail panel are almost like shoes for women at times...(for me at least).

BTW, I love that DMR AR setup, it's amazing! Having great photography skills also makes it that much better as well.

That's an Eagle Patrol Bandoleer. 4x rifle mags, 2x pistol mags or similar sized stuff. If it had room for a FAK it'd be just about right as an active shooter response bag, IMO.

Thanks much! I agree, very nice 'uh oh' bag. I think it'd be a good companion to a house gun. If there's a version with some molle points, I'd add a small FAK, like you said. I can't really find a chest rig that's simple enough to merit purchase for my simple needs.

Thanks, brother! I'm still going back and forth with the AFG. I love it on my SPR, but so far I still prefer my Larue FUG on all my carbines. The main reason being that it gives me more options for support hand placement. I can still grip it pretty much like I grip the AFG, but can also grip it normally if I need to, which usually happens when I get into an awkward position.

I put a few hundred rounds through the SBR too that day (notice the new switch? That's weird, where'd that come from?;)):

The HCC range you're talking about is the same range I took my Trident Concepts class with Jeff Gonzales and also my Magpul class, if I'm not mistaken. I LOVE that range b/c it's perfect for my wheelchair, but I'm pretty much the only one who does though, b/c everyone who's able-bodied hates the kneeling and prone positions on concrete... not an issue for me:p

Yeah the NF 2.5-10X24 rocks! It did hurt the wallet wehn I bought it around a year ago, though from Larue:eek: But I think it's worth it in the end, and I'm sure I'll have it and it'll perform for me for a very long time to come.

This is the best pic I got right now, man. And it's cropped too, so the image is not quite as sharp. Sorry.

http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv219/RetreatHell/BCM%20SBR/BCM%20Middy%20SBR/DSCF1492.jpg

My magazine stippling pretty much looks very close to standard grip tape. Unlike the XTM panels on the right in the pic above, I don't make actual "holes" in the magazine's polymer. The plastic on the PMAG is a lot tougher, so I just press down with the soldering iron for a split second, almost just sort of tapping it more than pressing on it. I don't like my PMAGs to be really aggressive, just a little rough so my hands will we able to grab ahold of them a lot easier and they won't slip out of my grasp, especially if it's raining out and my gear's all wet.

As I've said before, if you want to stipple your polymer gear and want your shit to actually look good, you're gonna have to take your time doing it. It takes me around 2 hours for each PMAG that I stipple, which is why I've only done 4 or 5 of 'em.:)

You can do it a little faster if you make bigger holes, but that's too aggressive for me. YMMV.

Big thanks, sounds like a plan. The rail is ridiculously light weight, the rifle overall is not but the rail really helps in making it balanced which I think is more important.

Yep same range we usually get out there once a month or so with Sparta Group to do some training. Tell those guys to man up or invest in some pads (elbow, knee or the feminine kind:p).

I had a friend drop by, and I happened to be cleaning a couple of my ARs in the living room, while my wife was nearby in the kitchen. While my friend is not an anti he just really doesn't get it, yet.

He asked, "Seriously Cameron, what do you really need an Assault Rifle for?"

Holding up the SBR I asked my wife, "Baby what are these for?

She turns around and deadpans the response:

Recently updated CQBR.

She has Bushmaster roll-marks on her, but all that is left of the original BM rifle is the upper and lower housings.
Everything else has been replaced little-by-little over time.

Next step is to replace the 16" barrel with a 12" and make her a SBR. ;)

Cameron

Yeah it's badass! One of the best shootouts ever in a movie and they captured the sound of it perfectly! Although the long bursts of full auto hitting cops at close to 100 yards was a bit of a stretch... but other than that, awesome gunfight scene!

Not getting the other connection, though. Is that why your location has New Zealand added to it? I'm lost, buddy:confused:

Nice set up …

But, Brother, get that kit in the dirt! ;)

Thanks, surprisingly it has seen its fair share of dirt... Most recently it all went through a 3day MD HVWM class. Somehow keeps looking clean. Maybe because it is pretty much the same color as dirt:p

EDIT:
BTW Heat is quite literally the heat. Michael Mann is definitely one of my favorite directors. In his movies he usually has fairly accurate gun-play (compared to other movies.) I especially like Collateral, when Tom Cruise draws from concealed with his USP on the two BGs. Good stuff.

EDIT2:

What plate carrier setup is this?

It is an Eagle SPC (issued kit via USMC) However, you can get an Eagle PC with cummerbund which is almost identical except for the molle at the front top center, and the sewn in soft armor. After you get the Eagle PC I would suggest Triad Tactical for the soft armor inserts, and they sell inserts for the cummerbund as well. BTW they are good people.

http://www.triadtactical.com/PACA-Heat-Sealed-IIIA-Soft-Inserts-Eagle-Cummerbund.html
http://www.triadtactical.com/Plate-Carrier-w-Cummerbund-MOLLE.html

Hope this helps.

DAMN I love that combat/speed reload that Val Kilmer's character does!

The only thing I DON'T like about that amazing gunfight is the fact that, just like in countless other movies, the "regular" uniformed Patrol Officers are portrayed as unskilled morons who serve as cannon fodder for the "amusement" of the audience. Pisses me off.

I'm tempted to go further with this, but I'll stop there since this is the pic thread. Speaking of which...

I think it's a little bit of an optical illusion if you are going by the appearance of the timing

Dude... Holy shit-**** that looks awesome, man! Congrats!

That cat tail on your NF is pretty sweet, too. I didn't even realize what those things were for until literally a few months ago (yes, I'm retarded), I'd just see them occasionally in pics but have never seen or used one in person. Now I REALLY want one for my NF 2.5-10X24mm because it's a bitch to rotate that thing. I just checked out the 3gun stuff website and I'm about to order one of them for myself!

Yes the cat-tails are a great asset on a scope...3 gun stuff are good people too, and they got sued by ARM's which makes spending money with them even easier....

I am going with the same optic though... I was also looking at the new Razor but decided on the NF... How do you like it?

That rifle looks really, really well thought out and nicely executed.

So far I like the NF ok. Honestly I expected a little more for the money. Just a couple blemishes, the Zero Stop is like playing hopscotch drunk (comparing it to my Short-Dot in setting the turrets), and at 50 yards at 10X the reticle in unfocusable.....dont know if thats just this scope, me, or every 10x power scope is like that 50yards.

The NF rings (or any other rings) place the scope to far to the rear to get a good sight picture without extending the stock way out back along with your cheek. I have a LaRue SPR 1.5 on order but LaRue is pretty back right now so the rings will have to do until the mount gets in.

Next time I need a "precision" optic Ill go with my tried and true SB or Zeiss/Hendsoldt. My first experience with Hendsoldt (now part of Zeiss) was in Germany doing some cross training with some German Army guys, and they had one on a AI 300WM. I equate NF more along the lines of Leupold, Nikon, Etc than with the top Euro brands. But then that requires 3k or so for a scope so obviously thats out of reach for many people but the difference is VERY noticeable. Maybe if I get up the cajones this gun will wear a SB 3-12x50 with mil dot, and mil turrets. Ive always lived by the motto of "your gun is only as good as the glass." I have a new 1000k yard range opening up 20 mins from me, and was part of the motivation to build a long range rig in an AR platform.

Everytime I see pics of your can I start to think about getting one. The only problem is that cans are unrestricted in New Zealand and relatively cheap. So paying the $ and the stamp here makes me cringe. I wonder if a can would be good with this Recce and the tapered LW barrel it has?

Should be fine, no reason why there would be an issue that I can think of. I would have no problems using one on mine.
