Your new Mk12 upper is looking great, Cam! Awesome job, man! You might consider possibly getting a brake for it. When I shot Belmont's Mk12 upper 2 weeks ago with the Ops Inc brake on there, it shot SO smooth and, as an awesome result, it could be fired extremely fast while maintaining accuracy with very little effort involved, compared to the standard carbine and mid-length 16" and below uppers. Those Mk12's are really fun to shoot!

Pic thread. I REALLY wish I could've taken this home with me this past weekend! We bonded so well, too:(

Honestly I can't believe there are still Marines out there running those nasty 3-point slings. I desperately wanted to take out my Benchmade and cut the thing off and replace it with a BFG 2-point VCAS I have. But my house was more than an hour away, so I wasn't about to drive an extra 2 hours to go and pick up a sling. I do hate to see that shit, though.

Sweet M203. I agree with you on the sling.
Question: is there a wire laying on ground behind you in this pic or is that a radio antenna? :p

Schmidt and Bender PMII 'Military' 3-12x50 with Gen II mil dot, MRAD clicks, MTC/CCW turrets, etc. I like it a lot better than the Nightforce that was on there. Much larger FOV, brighter/clearer optics, clicks feel a lot better, and I like the FFP reticle as opposed to the NF SFP. Its a big scope for an AR but in this role it does well.

Only issue is with the zero MOA mount I only get half of the 22 MRAD of elevation through the turrets but that still gives me enough clicks out to 1100YRDS with a 5.56 so Im not worried about it. The optic is more or less designed to be used on a bolt gun with a 30MOA mount/ring combo so that is why Im only getting about 11-12 MRAD adjustment with the zero MOA LaRue mount. If LaRue made a 20 or 30 MOA mount Id get a lot more elevation but its pretty pointless on a 5.56 gun. The furthest range around here is 300yards with a 1000 yard being built right now.

.........I just ordered an MOE buttstock, PG, and handguard, all in foliage green........

I just ordered a MOE Grip in Foliage Green to see the color in person..........

Well my stuff arrived yesterday, but I'm returning it today. Quite a bit more gah-reeen than I was expecting. From the photos here, I was hoping FG to be closer to a neutral gray.

It is also darker than I thought, which for me has a more practical aspect. I actually think black looks the most snazzy ("Men in Black"), but under the high-summer sun it gets hotter than blazes. The all-FDE furniture I currently have runs a lot cooler. FG wouldn't get as hot as black, but I think it would more than FDE, which I'm now going to stick with.

Man I am running into the same hard decisions now. I am picking up my stag model 2 this afternoon, and then wanting to order my furniture in a couple of days. The shops here in pa can get magpul but dont have any in stock.

I guess if I dont like the furniture color I can send it back. I am also torn between FDE and FG. Doesnt look to be much difference but you stated that the pics are deceiving.

Good luck.

J.

I'm not Cameron(obviously,) but that's not a suppressor. Well, it is a flash suppressor, but not a sound suppressor if that's what you meant. It's a Noveske KX3. http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?item_id=kx3556p&cat=11&page=1&search=&since=&status=

If you're talking about a standard military issue M4 carbine, there's a shit-ton of 'em around here. You just gotta put out the time consuming work and effort to look through all the pages of the pic thread(s), and then you'll most definitely find one. But maybe you'll get lucky and someone will read your post and find one for you before too long. I know I've seen lots of 'em 'round here, I just never took complete notice as to exactly what area or page I saw them on.

Centcom- I chose the long version of the Gunfighter handle. This is the MOD 3. I chose the larger one for mainly two reasons. 1) It is cold here and I wear gloves. 2)My Troy site (rear BUIS) is obviously right above the charging handle. With the stock Colt handle, my pointer finger would drag and rub along the top of the Troy when it was down or up. It provided much more room to "rap" the bolt. 3) a third reason was, the overall strength and QUALITY of the BCM. This thing is bomber. Tough as nails. It is designed for hard use. I am very satisfied. I would recommend the MOD 4 smaller version to any one who might have smaller hands or a problem with the latch catching on gear or poking them in the chest. If you are wearing Molle gear or a vest the latter is not a problem.....for me any way.

Luke- Goshen answered you spot on. The VLTOR stock just slides right on.

The reason I chose to replace the BCG was merely personal. I am trying to create what I consider the "URC"- ULTIMATE RELIABLE CARBINE.

The Colt BCG is great. MP tested, shot peened, and enhanced (M16 style). It is awesome. Only fact is, when I shoot a ton, I hate and I mean HATE cleaning for a long time. I kept the Colt as a spare and purchased the SPIKES TACTICAL NICKEL BORON BCG.

After reading several reviews, researching the web and finally contacting Spikes directly, I decided to purchase the Spikes BCG. Not only is it a true M16 BCG machined for spikes by a large government contractor, it is coated by the renowned Fail Zero company with the EXO technology, Nickel Boron.

I had the money, I trust in both FZ and Spikes to provide me with a BCG that require very little to no lube, and ease of use and cleaning.

I highly respect the opinion of Mike Pannone. I recommend the following three articles to create the ULTIMATE RELIABLE CARBINE:

http://www.defensereview.com/the-big-m4-myth-fouling-caused-by-the-direct-impingement-gas-system-makes-the-m4-unreliable/

http://www.defensereview.com/m4m4a1-carbine-reliability-issues-part-ii-diagnosing-the-root-cause/

http://www.defensereview.com/m4m4a1-carbine-reliability-issues-why-they-occur-and-why-theyre-our-fault/

URC:

Start with a good Tier gun, aka LMT, Noveske, Colt etc. No offense if I left one out.

+Sprinco Buffer Spring (Blue)
+Depending on gas tube and style: H1, H2 or H3 Buffer.
+Sprinco Extractor Spring. (WOW putting that in is fun. What a spring!)
+Nickel Boron BCG by FZ or SPIKES
+MAGPUL P-Mags
+Good ammo

If you're talking about a standard military issue M4 carbine, there's a shit-ton of 'em around here. You just gotta put out the time consuming work and effort to look through all the pages of the pic thread(s), and then you'll most definitely find one. But maybe you'll get lucky and someone will read your post and find one for you before too long. I know I've seen lots of 'em 'round here, I just never took complete notice as to exactly what area or page I saw them on.

Pic Thread: Here's an old one from before my baby girls changed and matured so much into the much better looking, hardcore and ruthless machines of death, destruction and mayhem:D

Should my next AR build be a 6933 w/Mid Length URX similar to the SR15 CQB Uppers you got their or a 16" Carbine build. I already have a LMT 10.5" that I'm working on w/LaRue 7.0 FF I was thinking of setting up a 6920 in a similar manner but these KAC rifles make me want.

Edit: I think I'm leaning towards the 6920 as I really need a 16" Carbine I can bring to the States for classes and meet ups.

I'd say get a top mounted pressure switch like the SR-07 and use the AFG like it was designed for. Right now you're not using either grip setup correctly if you're using both.

I use an AFG and that's where I mount my pressure switch too. With how I grip the rifle it's the most convenient and works the best for me. Everyone is different in what works for them.

I have many ARs setup in different configs, this was the first time I tried using dual grips. The AFG put my thumb directly on that switch very comfortably, but I would not want to have it there normally if that was my only grip location. I usually use the switch on the top of the rail mounted forward and grab the front of the rifle to actuate.

Its really not as bad as it looks, I promise! :)

I have a 9mm carbine range toy that's my test mule for trying new things and ideas.

I never had a Magpul M93 when they were available and have always wondered what all the fuss was about; when the opportunity arose to pick up one of the new Ergo "F93" reissues for cheap I decided to give one a try:

It's nice to have a non-serious carbine like this so I can try different configurations without affecting my main AR.

I've had a lot of problems with dealers/ distributors/ ebay/ manufacturers etc using images that I've shot for commercial purposes. The images are watermarked with my logo to cut down on that.

There aren't many people posting my images on boards and claiming they are their own, at least not that I'm aware of. I've been told that most of my images have a certain look to them, which is entirely possible. I try to be diverse, but evidently I don;t try hard enough.... :D

Ok. So my plan was to build my wife a carbine that is lightweight and she can easily use when needed. After having some time to think about it here it is. I am going to try and detail the cost as well. This is rather important because it once again shows the crowd that you can build a good solid AR for a decent price. Many small items were already on hand such as castle nut, lower receiver ext., buttstock, pistol grip, etc...

Rear BUIS is still pending as I have yet to decide which model to get her at this point.

1. Lower- Was a special order group buy from another website where I am a member. We paid 99.00 a piece and they are made by Mega Machine. The lower parts kit is a Stag Arms kit. 65.00.

2. Barrel- Is a BCM 16" 1/7. Cost was approx. 209.00. I also needed a barrel nut and gas tube. 21.95. Magpul MOE handguard 27.00.

3. Upper receiver- BCM M4 upper. Cost approx. 94.00

5. BCG- Carrier is from Bravo Company and the bolt is an LMT. I have several bolts on hand as spares, so all I needed was the carrier. Cost 69.00

6. Lower receiver extension- was already on hand as was the Vltor Mod stock, buffer spring and buffer. Approx. cost- 125.00

5211

The above is right around 725.00. Again some parts were on hand already, but I also spread the cost over time and only purchased what I need to complete the job. I estimate that for about 825.00-850.00 you can build a good solid shooter and you don't have to settle for crap.

Brother, you definitely hit it on the head...you do not "NEED" to spend thousands of dollars on a rifle to get incredible quality. I basically did the same for the "Mrs's" in my cave...although she dug into the spar parts bin and got some goodies that I still had, but completely after the fact of having a quality piece at a VERY affordable price from the get-go...

Assemble a basic, quality shooter, get in the game if your not already...and go "up" from there!!!

Cost 69.00

I do believe that it has to do with getting around Cali's laws concerning pistol grips and detachable mags...

It has to do with complying with CA laws, rather than getting around them. Law says if you lose the "evil" features including pistol grip, you can drop mags (even legally owned large capacity mags) with your finger. It's not a loophole or anything.

Here's my version of a recon rifle. The previous owner had it built up but never fired it. There are a few changes I might've made...maybe a better trigger, and I'm not 100% sure I would've gone for a rail (but it does look good, though, doesn't it?:)). I had the ACOG already from one of my earlier rifles (I had it on a FS2000 where it worked out well). I really like the eye relief and light weight, although the 3X is a little limiting. ACOGs are hard to come by in Canada and you kind of have to go with what you find. Looking forward to trying it out!

I really like the feel (although I've only had the rifle for about five hours!)-- two of my previous ARs had regular A2 handguards and this feels very similar, almost not a like a rail system. My other AR had an ARMS rail on it -- I like this much better.

The gap between the top rail and the left panel also gives a nice spot for my support hand's thumb. The rail's weight also helps balance out the UBR too -- it's a well-balanced rifle, much nicer than my old 20" HBAR, which was a bit of a beast (especially with a pound and a half of Elcan sight). I probably won't mount anything else on the rails, I'm not super crazy about forward grips on anything longer than a 10.5" or 11.5 rifle, although I am a little intrigued about the new Magpul angled grip.

It is indeed a 15x.

I bought it from my son-in-law for $800, including the Magpul mag and the forend grip. Only 200 rounds through it.

Decent deal for me I think. So with your 40% discount you must be in that ballpark. I don't know what my son-in-law paid for it new.

It seems like an AR of very nice quality.

Just curious, but: Is there any particular reason why there is a backup sight at an 45° angle? If there was a magnifying optic on top I could understand it as a short range sight, but I can't see the point in this setup. Why not using any normal flipup sights?

The AR15ChatterBox is a small forum with a great bunch of guys/gals involved. A few months ago one of the moderators contacted Quentin Defense about having some lowers made for us. These will be limited to a max of 50, with 17 having been done so far.

One of the forum members happens to live close by Quentin Defense and took time during the "birth" process of the lowers to go over a capture the stages in photos.

Just curious, but: Is there any particular reason why there is a backup sight at an 45° angle? If there was a magnifying optic on top I could understand it as a short range sight, but I can't see the point in this setup. Why not using any normal flipup sights?

So I'm not Chris Costa, but I'm 99% sure that he's running two separate zeros. One regular/long distance zero on the Aimpoint and something like a 7 yard zero on the irons.

GOTM4 has posted pictures of his irons only competition rifle with a similar setup.

Yep, it's a ContourHD. That's mine that we used while doing a tandem shoot on an AR500 steel target. Costa ringing it with his .308 and I'm left of him with my SR-25.

Not a dvd, we were having some fun during lunch on TD3 of Dynamic Handgun 1 (Portland, OR). Yes there's footage, no I don't think I can post it. Trust me, it was pretty awesome.

caeser25: The LEO adapter is a great investment, the original stock forces my wrist into an awkward position when I aim. Plus, they are only 15 minutes away from my house and it was a pleasure dealing with Mitch & Dan.

Served me well so far. I'm afraid though its time to soon acquire another so I can post something else. Looking @ Stick's and everyone elses pics of stuff makes we want so many things so badly. I think the next one I hopefully snap a shot of though is going to be the KISS approach. I want a really plane jane one with no bells or whistles. Sort of thinking an IDF clone or something of the like. Then my current one gets a facelift with the Magpul treatment. :D

Fantastic processing, and the model is striking. Nicely done.

I was going to start a thread in the General Discussion area regarding "women of weapons". The idea was to have images that showcased women who were involved in the weapon community, women who were shooters, and women with weapons. I think the issue would become where the line would need to be draw to stay compliant with board rules.

This board is pretty work friendly, so I can see where even the image that you posted could be considered unacceptable by some for the weapon section, HOWEVER, if the proper title was given to a thread in the General Section, and mods kept an eye on it, I think it could be done.

Another issue that mods/ staff would need to consider is copyright violation/ image theft, so it would need to stay with people posting images that they had legal ability (their own shots) to post.

Just thinking out loud.

I'll probably cut and paste this in the correct forum to see what the consensus is from higher ups.

ETA- I started a thread to cover this idea..... http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?p=679052#post679052
