That part I think I'm okay with. May not have the experience that Stickman has, but I have had quite a few of my pictures printed in a couple major car magazines both in the US and Europe.

Is that the AAC Brakeout? How do you like it? Could you compare it to a battle comp or the AAC Brake in terms of keeping the muzzle on plane?

You are correct pal, its an AAC Brakeout.

I had fought off the urge of buying this unit since it came out since I had relatively recently picked up two FSC556's...long story short I was trying to find the perfect muzzle device for the new Rock 16" SS barrel and this unit was the one I decided upon for a few reasons:
1. Although the Battlecomps are excellent brakes they along w. the KAC TT's are closed end devices and its my opinion that they can degrade accuracy a slight bit so they were ruled out.

2. Next factor was a brake that had much more even and uniform porting of the gases than the fire breathing FSC556's that are terrible at creating environmental disturbances due to gases. Basically I wanted something as close to the close end devices like the TT's and battlecomps yet remain open ended. Thus narrowing my choices down to the AAC 51 blackout...AAC Brakeout....AAC quick detach Brake. As you can see, I opted for the middle of the road b/t those three and while this brakeout still blurps NV, its still pretty damn good for F/H purposes but moreover its one helluva efficient brake.

Ports the gas nice and evenly at 12, 3 and 9 oclock vs. the gnarly fsc556 that has porting who knows where. So all in all I would highly recommend this unit as I am about to pick up my second.

Great optic. I had it on my 16" middy at first where it worked well, but it is the the PERFET glass for the MWS imho.

I've only shot the combo to 300 yards so far, but the 4x is plenty for getting good hits on steel with cheap mil surp ammo.

Can you please post a larger picture, that one is only 3872 × 2592 and 2,566.75 KB.

For some reason, the board code is not resizing the image...

I've stated this before, but the board should fix the problem with the micro resize, put images in a viewable format, and limit the image sizes that are posted.

That one has resized fine for me, but I have encountered images which didn't before--it seems to be a strange intermittent problem, and seems to mostly affect large images.

The problem with creating a script that goes out and fetches images from a remote site and reads them to figure out their size is a potentially huge security problem.

It would be nice if people self-policed a little better with the image sizes, though.

It eventually resized for me, but it made the page take forever to load. The picture wasn't resized until it had loaded completely though. I could probably use that pic as a screen saver on my 50" plasma TV with no loss in resolution.

I really don't like that the light uses a trigger mechanism to activate. In a stressful environment with possible contralateral contractions it could be easy to unintentially pull the trigger when you mean to turn on the light. Just thinking out loud.

It's a fair comment, it has a setting to depress the trigger once and the light stays on until you hit it again. That keeps my focus on my firing hand. Just remember that up here in Canada, we are limited to what we can buy for our rifles due to the US state departments export restrictions. I am waiting for a surefire light system till then I will make due.

Its a 3 year old picture that I shot showing the 2 different carbines. They are not the same carbine, but I can't remember why I took that shot. It was probably to show differences between them and to show possible upgrades. Either that or I had been drinking and thought they were two of the same thing.... :D

sscolt, is there a reason to have FOUR rings securing your scope, or just for peace of mind and redundancy?

Yea that is a lot but I guess that scope is not going anywhere.

:D I had two sets of rings, one scope and enough room so I just did it:)

Its a 3 year old picture that I shot showing the 2 different carbines. They are not the same carbine, but I can't remember why I took that shot. It was probably to show differences between them and to show possible upgrades. Either that or I had been drinking and thought they were two of the same thing.... :D

Stick: Fuggin hilarious.

I've been there. Had three guns on the table to clean one night. After one gun and 4 beers....that same gun got cleaned two MORE times. At the end of the night, I still had two dirty guns...but no beers left. I feel you, cuh. :D

I discovered it the next day. Haha.

All depends on which side you want the locking lever to live on.

Since getting beat up a little by a few guys here for my last set of pics for this rifle, I finally got my hands on the SF gear I was looking for. It's not nearly as easy to build up a rifle here in Canada as it is for you lucky bastards down south, but I think I did OK for what I have available.

H&K MR223
Elcan Spectre DR
SF X300 w/ SR07 pressure switch
Now I'm just waiting on my Magpul AFG to finish it off.
Thanks to the guys who gave me the good advice on the lights and grips.

Depends on where in the states you are. Here in NY it's a major PITA and some "features" are simply illegal. Bummer but I don't expect it to get any better for any of us any time soon. Or ever for that matter. :(

Subcaliber,

I was in a gun store yesterday here in NY and the owner was talking to ATF agents. I was sort of eavesdropping on the conversation. it turns out that the ATF agents were checking on all the Assault guns the shop had sold in the last few months. the shop owner said they didn't tell him why, but they kept mentioning to each other who would be grandfathered. the shop owner feels something is going on, like a full ban on assault guns in NY.

If it was the actual ATF you're looking at a Federal issue not NY. NY only would be the State Police...

By far my favorite AR outta the 15 or so I've owned. Wouldnt mind a nice 1-4x(or 5 or 8) with a Larue mount so I could switch them around.

What's that last word? :)

My lower will get to my FFl on the 29th. I don't know if the parts kit comes at the same time or if I'll have to wait for the upper to be put together, pinned and shipped before I get it.

Haven't heard anything about the upper yet. With the Holidays, I don't expect it here until after the first of the year. Maybe I'll get lucky and have a new project that'll keep me occupied while the in-laws are in town. ;)

Build Specs:

DD 14.5" Middy upper with perm YHM Flash hider
DD Low profile gas block
DD 12" LITE Rail
Magpul AFG
KAC Rail Covers
GearSector Rail Mount QD Swivel
DD BCG
BCMGunfighter Mod 4 Charging Handle
Troy Folding BUIS
Aimpoint CompM2 or CompM4

DD Lower
DD LPK
KNS Precision Gen 2 Mod 2 Non-Rotating Trig/Ham Pins
Magpul BAD
H buffer
Tango Down Battle Grip
Magpul UBR Stock

Buffer spring and sling are all I have left to order.

Picking the 14.5 with the pinned flash hider was a difficult decision over a 16 because I can't really/easily change the flash hider or rail but in my awesome wanna-be Kalifornia state I can't legally own an SBR (even with a tax stamp) so I figured this is as close as I'll be able to get with an AR.

I don't think you have to pay anywhere near $30 for a Magpul extended buttpad, but they are worth getting, I don't use any Magpul stocks without them.

The Magpul site lists it at $19.95...think I pay less than that when I order from Midway, as they give me dealer prices.

Its far from what I would choose to use as a mount, but it is what they wanted, so what the heck. Maybe not the best optics and mounts, but at least I know they have a top shelf rifle. Anyways, yes that is the NCSTAR quick release mount, and yes had problems both times I have used them. They appeared to be tight, but during sighting in they become loose. Was able to get it tight enough using the provided screw. My other buddy has close to 2000 rounds fired through his, and the scope mount is still holding up.

They've been out for a long time, and I've only ever heard of one breaking. On the one that did, I'm not sure the guy had done things correctly to start with, so its a hard call to make.

The one shown in my picture is the variant that John (Rainier Arms) is having made for his company, and its the first one that I have personally owned.

Titleist, does the RISR work with the stock fully collapsed? I've seen a Larue video on youtube that states it can but I swear the video looks like it's out one click. Can you clarify please?

On an AR10 tube a CTR naturally won't collapse all the way (it'll be short of fully collapsed by one position). Given that, you can still work the charging handle with it fully collapsed, and will pull back far enough to chamber a round, but won't be far enough to pull the bolt to bolt lock. I NEVER run my guns stock fully collapsed so that's a moot point. But it will still function if you need it to.

Trident, you should do a MRP version with an SBR, if you can.

I am tingling with anticipation with my first in the pipeline as we speak.

AL. just finally overturned the SBS/SBR ban this last July and I muddled for a moment in deciding whether to do a Form 4 and just get the CQB 10.5" complete rifle from LMT or to do a Form 1 and go with a new SR-15 IWS lower. Being a lefty and being basically married to a SBR lower it was an easy decision ultimately with the Form 1 and IWS lower. So it will be a CQB 10.5" top on a IWS registered bottom.

KentuckyWindage...awesome deer, even better you harvested it with an AR.

Here we go, a perfectly good Colt MT6400C, with AWB-compliant ugly pinned compensator and pinned "collapsible" stock...

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/mbohms/IMG_5147.jpg

And here it is defiled by me by hacking off the side-slung front sling mount, installing MOE handguard, IWC front sling mount, Troy fixed rear BUIS, MOE grip, Troy rear sling mount, and Sully Stock.

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/mbohms/colt12-1-10.jpg

Immediate plans include getting QD sling mounts installed directly in the stock and removing the Troy rear sling mount. Short range plans include mounting a Surfire G2 LED light on the front, and an enhanced trigger guard. Long term plans include installing an Aimpoint H-1 or EOTech EXPS.

Took a picture of the Zombie Hunter patch I won in a competition with my little P238 in October for the guy who sent it to me. Figured I'd share a picture of my AR here too.

This roughly illustrates the setup I had for the previous shot. It's very primitive :(

I am pretty happy with this setup now. It's a little front heavy with an HBAR and full length rail, but since it is not a duty rifle I do not mind. We'll see if I change my tune after a class or two.
