I recently decided to simply things and standardize my handgun platforms, so it occurred to me that I needed to do the same with my carbines. With that said, I run the EOTech OPMOD RDS on my shorty, so I will likewise run it on this one. I've been dicking around trying to decide which optic to run, so I guess I'll be ordering the OPMOD later today.

Anyway, just showing her off. I think I'll call her Gladys. :jester:

i know you're not asking me, but i had an IR version OTAL and it was a good unit but mine had sensitive battery terminals. they'd needed to be cleaned often for it to run properly even when batteries were not stored in them. other than that it functioned well and is very robust.

These are the first OTAL's I've had a chance to shoot with. I only have a couple hundred rounds through the both of them, so that's really not enough to make an educated decision on their reliability yet. They do however appear to be very nice, I like their compact size. Lower profile than my ATPIAL, and still pretty light. I don't have an ITAL..

Wow, that 16" barrel really looks good with the rifle length URX. I have been strongly considering a rifle length URX with a 16" lightweight BHF barrel.

Hey Guys. A few weeks ago I posted a question regarding what upgrades my DPMS needed to be a really "duty worthy" or "battle worthy" rifle, if you will. I had suggested some options as a question in that thread, such as going with a 1:7 twist, chrome lined BCM barrel, complete upper, H buffer, and some other things I was considering. You guys unanimously went with the "complete BCM upper option with H buffer. I just wanted to show you guys what she looks like and what gear I'm running and get some more opinions as to any weak points in versatility and reliability and just my overall setup. My goal is to have a "battle worthy" rifle that can take abuse, will go bang every time, and can be relied upon for any situation. I plan to run it hard, would like to trust if for defense, and it was just bothering me not being up to snuff. So, here are some pics and a description of what I'm running:

That's all I got! I really appreciate all the help so far. WOW has it been amazing learning what I have here; I've been shooting AR's for many, many years and yet I had so much to learn (still do probably).

From what you listed, it seems all you need is a quality LPK. Other then that you should be gtg. Although the light is on the hefty side. If you can afford to upgrade I would. For a cheap alternative (69$ I believe) you could get a 120LM surefire g2. Or for a bit more you could get a surefire x2,3,400 and lose the extra wight.

I really like having the foregrip and I do shoot a bit better with it especially firing rounds in quick succession. The bipod I added for versatility, stable shooting from prone, and bench target shooting from time to time. I like the option and it isn't too heavy or cumbersome. What's the deal with Tapco. I always thought they made good stuff? I really like the foregrip too, it is solid, light, and has the storage. Let me know your understanding with Tapco stuff. The tac light I think just makes it too heavy. Around 13 pounds with it fully loaded.

Behind the EOTech is an EOTech 4x magnifier on an EOTech flip to side mount. I really like it.

It's been time to piece together another AR for a while now. Last year I built up an ArmaLite M15 stripped lower receiver purchased from Impact Guns and married it to an ArmaLite U15A4C midlength upper I had. That freed up my S&W M&P-15 lower for something new. I was having a hard time deciding on a new upper but knew it had to be lighter than the ArmaLite HBAR.

Then I got news that my younger brother had brain cancer so I flew back to NC last November. Richard faded fast but I did get to spend some time with him before he died. We were both in the Army in the late '60s and he was fascinated to hear you could build an AR-15 like the M16 he was issued so we did a little research together online. If he hadn't been so sick I know he would have built one himself. I stayed a month to help my family attend to Richard's funeral and all the things that had to be done. During spare time I continued researching uppers and made a decision.

When I got back to home I ordered a Daniel Defense 16" LW midlength. It came with a lightweight profile cold hammer forged barrel but otherwise was plain jane like my ArmaLite. Daniel Defense was having that fantastic end of year sale through Smartgunner.com and they both got swamped with orders. Even so my order went in 12/9 and it arrived 1/20 which really wasn't too bad.

As you'd expect the DD upper is high quality and it fits and functions well on the M&P-15 lower. I added Magpul MOE handguards, a Bushnell TRS-25 RDS Cabelas has on sale this week and S&W M&P PMAGs that Sportsmans Warehouse blew out last week. For the rear sight I went old school and hacksawed down a milspec Anchor Harvey forge carry handle.

My first AR build changed so I'll drop in some new pictures of it.

Last year I bought an ArmaLite M15 Stripped Lower Receiver that Impact Guns had on sale. I also got an ArmaLite LPK and BCM milspec receiver extension/M4 Gen II stock kit.

I put the ArmaLite upper I bought from SawTac last year on the new lower which freed up my S&W M&P-15 lower for the Daniel Defense 16" LW midlength upper in the post above. I couldn't resist marrying an ArmaLite logo lower to the ArmaLite upper and figured the DD/S&W combo would be good as well.

Nice looking rifle. You could probably also drop a lot of weight by switching out the VFG and Bipod to maybe a magpul VFG only, or if you really need a bipod, look for a grippod

I have Magpul handguards and like them a lot. I prefer very light weight. However i just got a Daniel Defense V2 in the other day and was surprised how light it was even with the rail (7 inch I think). So I'm not sure how much weight you'd save.

I like it alot. It's fast and the circle dot is easy to use. I kinda wish it was green instead of red.

It's almost unbelievable how lightweight it is. This rifle is now my lightest rifle, and my other ones really aren't that heavy either.

Will be adding a BattleComp, Troy/BCM BUIS, Magpul BAD and RSA.

Dude, I am digging these setups more and more. I just did a BCM Mid build for my dad, with a Carrying Handle / MOE handguard. My hot-shit rig can't do anything that his can't for less money and a lot lighter.

Here I am running a VTAC 1-5 drill, my favorite carbine drill. This run was cold save the 20 rounds I fired to zero the irons and RDS. I was actually quite happy, I haven't been able to shoot my carbine in almost 3 months. I made all but 1 (target #2, shot 1 as you can probably tell) A-zone hits on the first string, then made all A-zone on my second with the carbine. Pistol I have to work on bit more, but I only had 3 out of the A zone after the transition. The second mag I was shooting at the head A-zone.

I was gonna say, but you beat me to the punch, about the Mako magnifier. I just had a guy tell me it is fit for airsoft. Anyway, I was gonna let you know that there is a mid priced magnifier out there that is mid grade, but not crap and not eotech/ aimpoint either, but very respectable. It is made by DM Firearms. Here is a link to the THR forum in which the manufacturer itself posted about it. You can find it if you shop around. 3rd post down from DM Firearms themselves.....

I heard it is pretty good. They even have a flip to side mount made by Samson Arms- The same that makes eotech. There are also some other options discussed there, but I just wouldn't go with the Make made for Airsoft. Not good.

So does it make any dent or damage to your seats? Wow, the few times I've tried with my G37 it felt as if I was going to damage my seat with the butt of my HK45 in a Raven Concealment OWB... I don't currently have a IWB for my HK45c, I'll probably get better results with that set up.
