The M4 barrel was suppose to be a Black Hole Weaponry 14.5" 416SS 1/8 from Surplus Ammo & Arms. It turned out to be a 14".
The upper is a LAR Grizzly blem.
The lower is a Stag, it looks identical in finish and rollmarkings to older Noveske lowers I've built on. Very nice machine work.
LPK, stock kit, and BCG are from Palmetto State Armory. Everything went together smoothly.
I used a Noveske endplate leftover from two previous builds.
Rear BUIS is a used MI SPLP; front is a MBUS until I can find a better one.
Used Troy MRF-MX 10" rail with a YHM gas block underneath.
I took the upper into Black Weapons Armory to pin & weld a Y/M flash hider, but since the barrel turned out to be a 14" it was nearly 1/2" too short. 1/2" will get you 8" in the pokey.
The awesome gunsmith was able to tell at first glance the barrel was too short, the solution was to install a used AAC Blackout 51T instead; which used with a barely visible peel washer gave me 16.12" or so.
The gunsmith also test fired it with a suppressor while he had it in the shop. I have a Nikon 1-4 M223 scope to go on it as soon as I get a scope mount.

Thanks brother...even KAC's smallest items have a certain "unique" KAC quality to them and I think you should indeed bring home a little KAC hardware in the future. When/if you decide, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the contact for where I like to buy my KAC stuff at...good pep's/good price's:)

My DDXV EZ. I thought about putting an LMT SOPMOD or Magpul ACS stock on it, but was surprised at the weight difference between them and the DD stock.

For anyone wondering how bright the flash is from a Surefire brake is, here you go:

I started with stripped Noveske lower, added LWRC deluxe lower parts kit, Magpul CTR, Magpul ASAP, Hogue grip, H2 buffer
Added Noveske 16" Light Recon Basic upper and added Magpul MOE midlength handguard, LWRC rear "Skirmish" BUIS, LWRC Advanced Combat Bolt and Aimpoint H-1 on a Larue 751 Absolute Cowitness mount
It is the only DI rifle I own as it shares range time with our LWRCs.
I'll shoot the crap out of it next week and see what happens.

Now for the real deal of the day, my boss needed money for an engagement ring and he needed cash. Sold me his NIB Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 with green mil dot AND LaRue SPR mount.....for $500 total.
Total price for my build $1476 with optic and mount.
I think I did absolutely great. Shot it today for the first time and sighted it in, it really liked my reloads. Remington 223 brass, CCI primer, 23.9 gr of H322 under a 50 gr Sierra Blitzking. Forgot to steal my target but it was every bit of a 1/2 to 3/4 inch group. Pretty damn good for an M4 barrel (Thanks BCM)
Overall, I am thrilled to death on the looks. I built this while I was off on mil. leave. My wife kept getting UPS boxes shipped to the house while I was gone for 3 months.

Finally got around to mounting a TQ back on here. Honestly it is much easier with the ACS than the CTR. Time and use will tell if this works out.

Just got a new Aimpoint CompC3, Daniel Defense Flashlight mount and Surefire G2X Tactical, along with a Troy single point sling and DD QD sling mount.
I originally planned to stay irons longer, but I've shot 'em enough now and I found this CompC3 in stock and only $369, so I jumped on it!

Yeah sorry this is only my second time posting anything on this forum, and I don't understand the twitter remark? But hey I have only been issued an m4 for 4 years now so I figured I have the in and outs of these rifles figured out and PWS really seems to have theirs together.
The Twitter remark is because you posted nothing of substance.
Tell me from a technical basis why your vast experience with the M4 made you choose the PWS. Is it because you want a clean weapon or do you actually have some technical data to share with us?

ok devil dog and the finest handgun you can buy is an m9 right? look its personal preference, I didn't put my rifle on the forum to start some big stupid argument. If you like impingement then good for you, I prefer piston it shoots cleaner, you run into less issues with failure to feed with suppressors, and pws has the least amount of recoil I have ever expirienced in an ar10. keep your analysis to yourself. Oh and the piston is designed like an ak47 and you wont convince me otherwise. rah yut yut kill devil dog motivator! marine corp!

So far I have put about 4500 rounds through this AR since 2008 and the only malfunctions I have had were attributed to one bad mag and three types of ammunition. I believe that the ammunition related malfunctions are caused by a tight chamber, but it functions flawlessly with my duty ammo and 20 or so other loads I have tried. The ammunition that this upper didn't seem to like were the following.
+Wolf 62 gr - would not fully seat round into chamber
+TULA 55 gr - many types of malfunctions (primarily short strokes on most rounds turning rifle into a single shot, but also ripped case rim off of two rounds and had to mortar 2 more.)
+GA Arms canned heat 55 gr. - similar malfunctions to TULA
I really need to sit down and type up a post about this rifle, my experiences with it, and why I chose the accessories I did. I may do that in the near future.
This rifle is my primary patrol rifle will constantly change as I see necessary for the best performance. I do realize however that the best modifications are made to the loose nut behind the trigger.

Thanks, the UBR is certainly my favorite stock made currently...it's heavy to some, but the quality, construction, and design are second to none Ive personally found. I wish the UBR's sling loop would be swapped for a small section of rail like the PRS's have for a mono pod. That's an excellent feature for any precision AR:)

in CA, you cant have a rifle with detachable mag and evil features (FH, pistol grip, collapsible stock). So people use a "bullet button" which prohibits your finger from removing the mag, requiring a ****ing tool. But doing so, you're limited to 10 round magazines.
Those little black stubs are my 'tool'. Thats why as a lefty the redi-mag makes changing a magazine much easier with my support hand.
Fortunately I can go to my river house in Bullhead City, AZ and take it off and shoot regular 30 rounders anytime i want.

Bought some R,W,B Index clips from a guy off that "other" forum, I have been wanting some extra "girth" to the front of the Troy Rail for a little while, and this was perfect with the long rail on the right side, and a small rail attached to the bottom.

I'm not LEO or military, but I applaud all of you that are. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. I was too immature/selfish to see the opportunity at that age, and that's something I regret.
I've always had an interest in the AR platform but life/finances prevented getting into it. Some things have changed this year, so I started researching the subject so that I could make an informed decision in my selection process. I've learned alot over the past year by reading through this forum. Thank you to everyone for all the information and insight.

I wanted a midlength rifle that I could depend on, even though it may never see anything but range/target use. This requires quality components without an excessive price. I like the traditional black coloring of the AR platform, but decided I wanted to make one with some color. My preference is foliage green, but not everything can be gotten in that color. So I've decided that I will substitute FDE/OD when necessary. I'm not concerned with it being color matching, in my mind it will be like camo.
For the lower, I picked up a stripped Spikes lower from AIM. I normally hate spiders, but I kinda like this rollmark.
I wanted to get an LPK from Grant, but he was out of stock at the time I was ready to purchase. I went with the Daniel Defense LPK. I swapped the grip with a green Ergo grip, and the trigger guard for the foliage version.
I used a BCM stock/RE kit, with an H buffer, and a Noveske QD end plate. Staking the castle nut was a PITA, but I suspect the cheap Harbor Freight auto center punch may have had something to do with that.
The upper is a BCM midlength with the foliage MOE handguards.
I still need: BCG, charging handle, BUIS, and a sling. I'm also considering a light.
Once that is done, I plan to just shoot iron's for a bit. I'll probably save for a red dot, as my vision is not what it once was. I really hate wearing protective glasses over my glasses. I was thinking of the Aimpoint CompC3.
I plan to eventually change the stock to something in green but I just don't know what feels best yet. I'm leaning to the VLTOR iMod or the CTR. I already have a build in mind using traditional parts, so the spare parts (stock, grip, trigger guard) stock will get used later this year.

I performed my final modification on my "Assembled From (Mostly Colt) Parts" carbine. After trying the fat M4 and Magpul MOE handguards, I found that the skinny carbine hg's work best for me. It's as simple as I can get.

My second post
My first two 5.56s. A2 Bushmaster that will remain stock, and a beat up Galil. Believe it or not the Bushy is actually better built than a lot of rifles out there. I guess when BM was sold to Remington some cost cutting occured. The gas key is nicely staked and it seems to have all the little things that people look for.

Mine is onthe left. The right is something we put together for a friend. Its a pretty nice rifle with the exception of the CAA "rail".
LMT 14.5 upper was only $500 shipped. Built on an LRB lower, MOE build kit from PSA, and a YHM Phantom pinned locally, it came out to around $812.
Had to get in some Recoil Therapy today....
...still cheaper than a psychiatrist!
