Nice stock

Top to bottom:
-Retro A1 build
-my main "go-to" gun: Colt 6920 w/ Short Dot, RAS, Magpul stock, etc. I have dumped the Surefire foregrip/light in favor of a forward-mounted TD vert grip and SF X200 or Larue Battlelight, depending on the situation.
-One that I built for a friend...SS WOA barrel w/ midlength gas system, DD rail, Magpul CTR stock, and GGG flip up BUIS. The Leupold was just on there for show. :)

I miss my Aimpoint...

Hey fella,

mind telling where you got the quick adjust for your accupoint's power ring?

I got mine directly from Daniel Horner (US Army AMU/Shooting Team member). He then sold the design to Joe Harless, and now apparently LaRue Tactical owns the patent. When Horner was selling them it was only available for the 30mm Leupolds (my scope is a Leupold Vari-X III 30mm tube 1.5-5x illuminated with the German No. 4 reticle). Horner is now back to using a S&B Short Dot and has one on it (while his S&B was getting repaired he used a Leupold 1.5-5x MR/T).

Congrats Rob, It's great to see you have applied all that I have taught you!!;)

That is awesome!!

Is you c-r-a-z-y? :p

My first build ..............

LMT Defender 2000 lower, single stage trigger
Magpul MIAD
BCM M4 upper
BCM BCG
LMT rear tactical sight
MI Carbine Extended rail
XTM & ladder covers
Tango Down VFG

Cant decide which optic to get , so I am waiting for that. Also going to get a light.

Originally, I had a RRA Entry Tac upper on it. After doing the research, I opted for the BCM 16" M4 upper. (Anyone wanna buy a RRA upper ;):()

nice, does that rear optic magnify? i assume that its night vision right?

The PVS-14 doesn't magnify. You can adjust the depth/clarity, but there is no magnifacation. Yes, it's night vision.

First of all, I'd like to thank M4CARBINE.NET for all the help during this build. I know I'm not a big poster, but I've spent countless hours reading through all the forums. It's been a great help.

This is my first AR. I decided to go the custom build route. I'm about 98% finished.

Here's a little about my new toy.

What I have so far:

-Spike's Tactical (Punisher) Stripped Lower
-RRA 2-Stage National Match Trigger
-LMT 16" Flattop Upper Receiver w/ 1/7 Twist, Chrome-lined Barrel
-LMT Bolt Carrier Group
-LMT Charging Handle
-YHM Free Float 4 Rail Handguard
-Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard
-Falcon Industries ERGO 'SureGrip' Pistol Grip
-Ace Full Size Skeleton Stock
-Magpul 30 Round Windowless PMAG's (X3)
-EOTech 511.A65/1

What I have on order:

-SureFire (ladder style) Rail Covers
-Troy Front and Rear Flip-Up Sights

I'm sure that I'm forgetting something, but here are a few crappy pictures.

CLHC,
Where did you get that fixed stock from? Is that stock shorter than the standard A2 stocks of todays M16's??
It sure looks shorter than the fixed A2 stocks. I really like it.
Who made it, and what is the LENGTH of the actual "stock" part? Could you pull a measurement for me? I would like to compare to my A2 stocks.
I can't be sure, but from the pics, it APPEARS as if there is still indeed that awful looking mold line that runs along the entire length of the stock, just under the top, which is a mistake from the manufacturing process. Does your stock (like all of mine) also have this line too????

I experimented with some Duracoat this weekend. I painted my X300, Aimpoint M4S and upper and lower receiver with Duracoat color 'Tactical FDE', it was VERY close to Norrels FDE but after I hit it with the flattening agent (to make it non shiney) it turned a few shades lighter. If I do another upper and lower I'll add some darker brown to the same color to get it a little darker than I want so when I add the flatting stuff it'll be about like VLTOR FDE.

I stripped everything down as far as I could (receivers were sans all parts) and used a Paasche airbrush.

I have been running them since Sept of 2008 (got them at Larry Vickers' Colorado class last year).

Intially I though the fit was off a little, then I washed them and the fit was perfect.

Great dexterity, good protection / coverage, outstanding fit, very comfortable. I have had no issues or anything that I would change about the design.

The Vickers Combat Gloves are the only set of gloves that I use at work. I'm about due for another set of gloves. I had heard that they were going to be offering a low cut version of this glove as well.

Couple of my blasters...
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q223/db556/Clengths.jpg
Green one is a Tactical Solutions .22lr upper. I go back and forth with Irons and an old Eotech. It's only at about 2k rounds now, but it's kinda fun.
Black one is a Sabre Defence 14.5" barrel with their long A2, perm attached.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q223/db556/middies.jpg
These two are the result of my ongoing search for a general purpose AR, and several stupid configurations. They are basically clones of each other. Handguard and VFG configuration as well as lights keep changing around on me. I'm pretty much set on everything else. If i was looking to build another general purpose gun, I'd build another like these.

FDE gun is a BCM middy from a few years back. Foliage gun is a Sabre middy.
Parts are mostly obvious. Aimpoints are 2MOA, Larue 9.0's are hiding under the parts, barrels are gov't profile. I liked the consistency in feel of the triggers with the KNS pins. Both shoot far better than I am capable of, which isn't saying much. And yes, I'm a lefty.

I've been doing a little tinkering with my LMT 14.5" upper and ended up with this.

http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/IMG_3966.jpg

http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/DSC_2373.jpg

I experimented with shaving my gas block down and ultimately used a DD low profile block because I ran out of patience with the grinding. That's a 14" DD Lite Rail with a phantom FH at the end.
http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/IMG_3972.jpg

Not exactly a lightweight upper, but it has been fun to shoot and actually handles pretty well. I still need to weigh it on an accurate scale, I'm guessing it's around 9lbs loaded out with 30 rounds.
I haven't benched it on anything longer than a 25 yard range yet so I've basically only got it on paper striking a little over an inch low.

The household now has a bunch of fun rifles to choose from. I own the tactical butter knife and the two rifles on the right.

http://web.mac.com/supermarkus/iWeb/Site/LMT%20and%20Noveske%20stuff_files/DSC_2385.jpg

I'm done for a while. I think the next project is going to be built around an N4 barrel to go with that Noveske lower when budget allows.

Also true, but my signature states what most pros think of mounting optics on forearms. I'm not saying there's anything against "gamers" as I've learned a ton from them watching and shooting at local matches. Mounting optics (not irons) on forearms just isn't a smart move to me.

Nothing is exact, so I would have to say no. If the tolerances were that tight, it would be worthless for any actual use as it would be a chore to insert or remove them. The mags have a small amount of play when locked into place.

New Noveske N4 Lo Profile

Happily took delivery of my new Noveske N4 Lo Profile a couple of weeks ago. A little morphing due to some Magpul furniture, an Eotech 516, Tango Down VFG, Magpul and KAC rail covers and a Blackhawk Gladius light in a Vltor scout mount. Mostly fed via windowed Pmags.

Still to add will be a Tritium front sight post, PRI Big Latch and then eventually a Lasermax Unimax (Green) lazer.

The gun resides in a Larue case, which I really like and the vest is the Blackhawk Omega Elite EOD.

What an awsome shooting gun. I have owned a lot of exotic stuff, but this is my favorite.

Thanks sgtmajor. The wife likes to go and shoot just as much as I do and by the example will turn a screwdriver too.

I'm getting my son hooked too and have turned him loose to tinker on a 20" HBAR A2 build. He'll be getting that for his birthday in December (he just doesn't know it yet). Then he graduates HS in January then on to the Air Force in Februar. Fully decked out with a Pelican case, Dewey rod, all cleaning accessories/brushes/patches/cleaner/lube, and a few Pmags. I just want to see him set off on the right foot when bitten by the BRD. LRB Lower, Colt HBAR 20" upper is a good point to start with I think.

He has a few things to learn but will quickly figure it out on where to place the rail covers & VFG. I'll post more pics of it later but here is one after he installed a KAC drop-in M5 RAS.

Sounds like a great family. I wanted one of those sr-15 match rifles but I pissed around and missed my op. So I had to wait until now to get my sr-15e3. Then I also called Marvin Pitts he works with kac and had Marvin build me a precision upper on a kac upper with rifle urx cut down for the kac flip gas block with a noveske recon barrel im going to carry both uppers in a pelican fitted case as well. Ill slap up some pics when it all gets here if I don’t go bankrupt first.

The upper built by Marvin will be more accurate from the get go than the factory SR15 Match set up. The Noveske/PacNor barrels are a little better than the Kreiger barrels and I think the chamber might be a bit tighter on the Noveske too. There is still potential with the Kreiger from Knight's but it'll take a little bit of fiddling. I wish I had a second Knights upper to have as a carbine alt. to pin on when I feel like it. They come up for sale once in a while but I always seem to be to late.

I still have plans of picking up an SR15 E3 but have a few other things to get first.

Thanks Stickman. I'm considering the MIAD as well since it has also gotten glowing reviews. I've heard somewhere that with it though, it's harder to manipulate the selector switch since the the hand sits a little further back. I have no personal experience with a MIAD though, so I don't know if this is true or not.

Since it's a picture thread...I took pictures in better lighting.

I just added a MIAD and with the small backstrap it feels similar to the A2 grip I removed (wrt reaching the selector). With the full kit you have three backstraps and four frontstraps to experiment with...

Ohh ok, thanks. I didn't know you can change the front straps as well...it is a really modular design after all. Thanks for the info, and beautiful carbine you got there.

Edit:The other day at the range, my buddy showed up wearing a "molon labe" t-shirt with an AR15 underneath the text. I didn't even know they made T-shirts for it, it's hilarious (shows how out of touch I can be). I figured since I won't be painting the stock, I might as change it somehow (I'm somewhat of a nonconformist at heart).

This set up is pretty much perfect, I just want to pick up an ADM acog mount for the acog and either a new scout light, an x300, or a e2d led defender in a mount. I will take some new pictures of the sam-r rifle too, and hopefully in the future I am going to build a sbr rifle with a factory Noveske lower. We got some Noveske lowers in the shop the other day and I was real tempted to buy all of them even though I don't have the money, and I need more ammo to feed the guns I have. I still also want to build a copy of this for truck duty.

Oh and I also want to try out a magpul maid with the small back strap or the new moe grip see if I like it better than the tango down. Jeff I noticed you switched what was the reasoning?

Thank you very much sir! It isn't very heavy I need to weight and when I do will post the weight of it I just don't slang rocks like Rob-S so I don't have a scale :D.

It’s really well balanced too, with the can attached it is still very balanced also the can only weights 17.75 oz which helps since it doesn't add a lot of weight.

Compared to my one friends SWAT call out rifle its seems really light as she says, but she also has a little bit more stuff but not much biggest thing is she has the old school two piece ras which is a a solid rail but a little heavy.

SgtMajor that upper looks nice I expect when you finish it will be an awesome build, Also ArchAngel nice set up man very nice

Once you go suppressed you won't go unsuppressed, it really is a great thing that achieves a lot of good things. I recommend AAC or KAC both are superb companies with great people, though I am biased towards AAC. The spr/m4 is a great can if you have any questions about any of the cans I will help you or find some one who can help you answer those questions. Also the guy who etched my lower does it for AAC.

kamapolice, why didn't you go with the ACC M4-2000 or 416-SD can? Both of these are cheaper than yours and are 36SB instead of 28SB.

By sb do you mean db as in decibel and the reduction of them? The spr/m4 has 36db reduction same as the M4-2000 and 416-sd. The spr/m4 is basically the M4-2k but sits back on the barrel balancing the weight a little better on normal length barrel's plus it helps reduces back pressure because it has a place for gas to go back into, also you can adjust the poi shift of this can so you have minimal if any shift when going from unsuppressed to suppressed. Plus my other gun I use it on is more of a spr build (sam-r) so it is great for both guns and is perfect for an m4 or spr as the name. Basically the spr/m4 in my mind is perfect for anyone running a 16, 14.5 or longer barrel with a regular m4 profile barrel and ot a 12 inch sbr, to where as the M4-2000 can be used on shorter guns and has a little more versatility for non m4 profile barrels and or like use on a bolt gun.

When I build a sbr I am probably going to pick up a M4-2k so I can run a 10.5 barrel since you need at least an 11.5 to run the spr/m4 and I want an overall length of 16inches with the can on.

I don't think the guards are out yet. The stocks and grips are however. The MOE line is a value based line.

It is not recommended for sure, pinning it can cause concentric issues and silver soldering does bring the materials to really high temps. It can be done with success though, honestly if I was to do it all over again I would just get a 16inch barrel mid length upper and might eventually do that and the sbr I am probably going to go with is 12 inch barrel.

the sbr I am probably going to go with is 12 inch barrel.

i think you'll like the 12 pretty well i hear good things about 12 vs 10.5 but thats a differant story. if i go suppressed ill probably only purchase one so i have to do alot of home work. here are the weapon systems that it will most likey be on.

16 mid "sr-15 e3"
16 mid "noveske midweight barrel" i wonder if the spr/m4 mount will go over that barrel?
16 LMT carbine
maybe a 12" sbr for me as well :D havent decided on a sbr yet or not either

For those I would get the SPR/M4, e-mail John and ask but I am pretty sure it will fit his barrel is it an N4 or one of his poly rifle, I know it will fit both of those.

Here is what Robert Silvers has to say about the SPR/M4 (answering the question for someone else):

"The SPR/M4 has less backpressure so less gas goes back into your face and is easier on the action. The mount is a little nicer and has POI adjustment built in. The can goes back over the barrel, so I don't think it is longer in terms of length added to the rifle. The SPR/M4 cannot work on barrels under 11 inches in length, so one reason to get the M4-2000 is for short-barrel compatibility. Also the SPR/M4 requires an M4 barrel diameter but you probably have that on both rifles.

The sound is about the same. I am not even sure which would be quieter on your rifle.

If it were me I would prefer the SPR/M4 for your rifles.

My rule of thumb is to get the M4-2000 if I will either use it on a barrel under 11 inches or if I want compatibility with lots of thread pitches. If it is just for a 12+ inch AR and all rifles it will be on are compatible with it, then I prefer the SPR/M4."- Robert Silvers

The M4-2000 and SPR/M4 both add 4inches to the length of the weapon and with all the guns you listed I would run the SPR/M4

A couple of questions: Does anyone know if there are any Low Profile gas blocks that can be
mounted without having to remove a permanent muzzle device? Can anyone give me an idea
what a LWRC Upper costs, that is if they sell the upper by itself?

None that I'm aware of. You you'd have to do is cut down your existing front site base and make your own low-pro gasblock. There's a thread on this already.

Around $1700 for just the upper with a several month wait unless you can find a dealer that has one in stock.

I like the MOE handgaurd. I need to order that DVD as well.

Didn't know you used a D40 stick.

I use a few different ones, including a 20D and 40D. I leave EXIF data intact in my pictures, so its pretty easy to see the model and settings on the different ones. I'm not in love with any of the bodies, but the Canon glass lineup has done very nicely for me.

I must have posted mine in the dead thread. This one has much more life to it.

My Spatha. Built on CMT upper and ASA lower I used all milspc internals. Te bolt was going to be replaced with a chromed one for ease of cleaning but this can kicks NOTHING back down the barrel. In fact, it appears to run cleaner than normal shorties. The can appears to be acting as an equilibrator on an artillery barrel. It does have a gas buster chargin handle just in case. The barrel is an 11.5" ER Shaw chrome lined heavy barrel, the rail system is the CASV-EL by Vltor. The grip and stock are from Magpul and VLTOR.
Now the can is the AAC M4/2000. It is absolutely the quietest can I have ever heard. There is NO hearing protection needed on this gun. Usually even with 16" or 20" guns you still need hearing pro because your ear is right next to the ejection port. No so in this case. It appears that the can actually pulls the gases down the barrel away from the shooter. The only negative here is the flash hider used with the new AAC cans rings like a tuning fork. In fact, the ringing is louder than the muzzle blast. It wears an EO Tech, a PEQ-2 eye safe aftermarket laser and surefire light.

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/4920/m4outofbagpq0.jpg

My MK-11 is a modified version of the issue. I use the same PRI matched barrel and bolt, in a chromed bolt carrier. The upper and lower are Stag and the parts are all milspec inside. The stock is of course the Magpul, the bipod is Harris and the scope is actually Leapers. Until it goes bad I will keep using it because it is camo'd to match. But when it does go it will be replaced by a leupold. The can is te Ops Inc Model 12, same as the military's. If I ever have to replace it she will get a AAC M4/2000. This gun is set up for the 77gr M262 rounds and is sub MOA out to 600m. I can engage targets with the heavier bullet out to 800m reliable, but the kenetic energy transfer is pretty weak for this round. The sage brush camo was done by our smith Joe. It is absolutely amazing in the field, and pretty danged good on bare concrete.

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8079/1000959pd5.jpg

The MK-12 is actually the DPMS SASS, but it is not the one they sell now. This gun is actually one left over from the trials for the MK-12 that Reed Knight bribed his way into winning. This gun, when shot side by side with the issued gun and ammo, is noticably more accurate. The difference between this one and the ones on the market now are mainly in the barrel. This one is very heavy under the free float, and fluted just like the current ones (though they are a bit smaller in diameter). But in front of the gas block the barrel is not fluted, it is smooth and has the step down for the Ops Inc 308 collar. The gun was designed to use this can, and so mine has one on it. And out past 500m it really does have a significant inpact on accuracy. It makes a HUGE difference. I have shot consistant headshots on man size silhoette targets at competitions at Camp Williams. I would guess that it cleans up the groups by about a 1/4 to a 1/2 MOA out past 500m.

The Leupold scope is a 50mm version of what we use in the military. The stock is the same Magpul and it has the same Harris bipod. The paint job was also in house, this one we call the rock pattern. The idea came from the camo on the WWI German helmets. It was simply to break up the outline at range and does an excellent job of that. On a rock at 50m it becomes pretty hard to see it.

Does that Troy front BUIS actually clear the light, when in the up position?
Also, I thought you were planning a super ultra light build, upon selling your MRP?? Is this IT, or do you have another coming? I would have though you would have gone with the N4 Light series instead.. (not that there is ANYTHING wrong with the Afghan bbls), but I wouldn't think that would have been your choice.

Nice gun bro.

The front sight clears the X300 with room to spare. This is my new upper to replace my MRP. While my MRP served me well, it was getting "long in tooth", and I wanted to build one for myself. While this new upper is no super lightweight, it is lighter than my MRP. While I could have went the N4 route, it wouldnt have been a huge weight savings, and the wait time for the build to be delivered would have been much longer, and I wanted a 1x8 twist barrel which the N4 is not available in.

I called Noveske direct and they had this one 1x8 twist barrel available, so I jumped on it. I am happier than a pig in shit with the end product.:D

I have spent countless hours over the past week removing between 3 and 5 layers of paint from my AR, due to not liking the way it looked in certain colors, it isn't fun:( there are a lot of nooks and crannies:mad:to clean but it looks almost the same as it did before I took this misguided journey;)... My goodness there are too many fine rifles on this thread. Being in Asia, we don't have access to products made by LaRue, Troy, Midwest, et. al. I'm just way envious of the stuff I see here. Am drooling as I type. Nevertheless, here is my contribution to this thread. My rifles are pretty much plain jane. I consider all of them "shooters", meaning they may be plain but they are highly calibrated pieces. They are all fully automatic too. All have pretty decent barrels too from E.R. Shaw and Wilson. It was hard getting the units with Super Bulls from Wilson to go full auto but we managed. I'm hoping to change all the stocks to Magpuls. Eventually I guess. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with my pieces.:)

What grip is thaton those rifles?
