I love the looks of this one. Is that a 11.5" barrel with a 11" VTAC? I've been looking into building a similar setup. I have a BCM 14.5" with 13" VTAC, I just want a miniature version!

Occasionally old Stickman reminds us why he gets the title of professional photographer :) That last pic shows a lot of range+the right equipment. To me its the combo of the right lighting, the color of the actual lighting, and then the angle in order to make that rifle look so delightfully worn/used.

M4C doesn't f**k around when it comes to taking great gun & gear pics, lots of photography talent on this site....with a ton of it coming from hobby photographers w/ P n' S cams. Creativity, and execution of the fundamentals will take you a long way when making films, and I imagine this holds true with photography even though I never get creative, and rarely execute a single aspect of any shot I post.

How much did that run?

$1,173.00 OTD for the Colt + about a $100 for sling and CH.

http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac81/trident1982/DSC08528-1-1.jpg[/QUOTE]

It looks awesome, very "modern", for lack of a better term. Sleek and sharp at the same time.

Now that I look again, that rail must be from the same company as the upper. Is it VLTOR?

Umm, I wanted to talk about the ammunition others are using in their 1/7 barrels and also about free float rails for a piston driven gun. I put it in the technical area for a reason.
Did you read my post?
Am I not allowed to start a separate discussion? If you have to move it to the general area, at least keep it as its own discussion. My intent wasn't just to post a picture.

No problemo. My Nikon is mounted in same spot w/same rings. No problem with cheek weld on it either. The scope appears much higher than it really was, in that shot. Perspective, I suppose.

It looks very much like the VLTOR VIS-KM, BUT not polylithic instead some form of proprietary fit between the upper and the VLTOR rail configuration with the extra keymods at the 10:30 and 1:30 rail positions (likewise on bottom) and no forward assist......... But who knows until Stickman or Militarymoron gives us the real skinny:eek:

Interesting. Good and bad. Looks like the 308 NSR rail will not be sold separately. Funny, the 308 I need the NSR rail for IS my MEGA MATEN. I just need the rail though, not some custom upper rec/NSR combo. Guess we'll see...

I am sure one option will be the same length as the 13.5" NSR or very close.

Technically, this is my first AR.

I put the lower together myself and it was a very educational experience for me.

I also want to thank AR15Barrels for having this page set up:
http://www.ar15barrels.com/prod/operation.shtml

This rifle is composed of:
BCM FA BCG
BCM Gunfighter CH, Mod 4
BCM 16" mid-length
Stag lower (bought stripped)
PSA LPK
Magpul MOE handguards
Magpul MOE PG
Magpul STR stock
Magpul MBUS 2 rear sight
And a super lame-ass CA legal bullet button. No way around that one give the parts I have.

Including shipping and a spanner wrench for castle nut and BB, it all cost me roughly more or less of what a 6920 goes for...

I love the Stark grip. It has become the only grip I will run, one thing I have learned is if you have small hands it probably won't work for you but medium++ hands seem to have no issues using it.

I like it because its one of the bigger grips out there so it fill my hand, it puts my trigger finger perfectly inline with the trigger, it has a 15* angle that is better for your wrist with current shooting positions, the bottom is flared so my hand doesnt slip off and the stippling helps alot there as well, and it has thumb rests on both sides of the grips, plus the built in trigger guard is great for gloved hands.

Thanks brother.
Took about 10 minutes once I figured out what was going on. No special tools needed, although the rail doesn't come with loctite (instruction said to use it). It has pretty tight tolerances, but locks up really well and is pretty light weight. Went with this drop-in so I wouldn't have to lose my pinned FSB.

Thank you sir,

Now i just want to get a good 2 point sling, a better buis , and some sort of lighting system. I want to get used to the weapon using the irons first (particularly shooting with both eyes open), then I may put a optic on it. I plan on keeping it as simple as possible.

Is that one of those belts from Crye? I saw them before and they looked interesting but huge. How do you like it? Thinks it good for wearing long term aka patrols and what not?

Right now I rock a blackhawk one with suspenders and while I love the idea of the war belt...I hate having to use suspenders because its more crap on me but if I didn't use them the belt would always fall off. It isn't good when you eggressing to the AAV and one hand is off the weapon because you have to pull your belt up!

It's a HSGI war belt. It's very comfortable and doesn't move at all. I highly recommend it. I don't like suspenders either

Nice basic rifle.

As far as upgrades, first I'd get a SOPMOD stock, and ergo grip. From my personal experience there is nothing better than those 2.

Handguards...do you NEED a rail? IF you do need a rail then I suggest a KAC rail. You can get one for around 150-190 bucks. If your needs don't require a rail, aka you don't want a forward grip, light, IR laser/illum, then well stick with your stock grip or I would suggest the Magpul MOE handguard. They are sweet! Super ergonomic.

BUT your first upgrade should be an optic. Acog, Aimpoint, or eotech should fit the bill great. I personally suggest the Acog over anything else. It is funny the only optic I have for my 6 AR-15s is 1 eotech, but once I joined the USMC and discovered the RCO (Acog) I few in love.

If the rifle is for plinking, defense, police work the acog wins HANDS down. You see within close distance you don't even aim, aka a MOUT environment you just point your finger that is resting on the handguard. Once distance comes into play...ACOG!!!!! ACOG!!!! lol, sorry, but seriously get the RCO.

11-09-12, 16:28
You are correct! I don't go out without it ;)

Man, I am good! I know my gear. In the Corps a person like me is called a "gear queer," I personally like to just say I am willing to experiment and find what works. The MUT is one of the best pieces of gear out there. I use it for work and for my personal AR15s. The only thing I don't like about it is that the carbon scraper breaks easily. I have multiple friends that have a MUT with broken carbon scrapers.

:) sorry ASH!

I believe in the QRP at a budget, but I have a couple reasons for switching
-The QRP1 knob is huge and was annoying me
-I wanted a cantilever mount so I could fit a magnifier
-I wanted a 2moa Aimpoint for the 3x
-I may have ADD

I lucked into finding a decent deal on a C3 2moa in a 129 mount. But the QRP is the best deal for the money

The NSR is an awesome rail.

http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo98/fireman325/DSC03878-1.jpg

Awesome set up. Did you modify the NSR to accept the QD attachment in that position?

When I played around with my NSR QD attachment, I came to the conclusion that it couldn't be mounted all the way forward like in your photo. I have mine back one slot from the front. If mounted all the way forward, the little tab doesn't reach far enough to lock in front of the rail and causes the QD mount to not sit flush and not have an interference fit with the NSR, unless you modified the NSR so it would fit?

Thanks Wormy/Jax

Two good, two bad observations about the Umbrella grip.

Good
1st, I love the grip angle. It's a more natural position for my wrist.
2nd, the width fills my hand unlike the Magpul MOE-K grip I used to use.

Bad
1st, I find it difficult to get an high grip.
2nd, It's slick. Not in a good way and could really use a good stippling.

No fancy ninja gear; just stuff that works that I have gone through from 3-gun comps, and a class or two. Just a little on the heavy side, but recoil is very nice, and it runs like a champ. The LMT and Noveske is a great pair, but has a bit of play with the upper and lower. But I know this thing will go bang every time. Just at 11.2 pounds.

Don't usually post pics, but was feelin' frisky. Usually stick with black or khaki. Note the detail. Actually blends in well with my current diverse southern environment of pine, kudzu, and other rampant weeds.

This weekend I did something special for M4C. Of my own volition I went on a top secret SR mission deep into enemy territory. Mogadishu you ask? No. The Kyhber Pass? No.

Where I went is somewhere much more infamous and sometimes alien (and understandably so).....a gun show.

What you are about to see is the pinnacle of uber tacticoolness wonder weapons. Behold (and pardon the smart phone quality pics):

On a positive note I saw 3 rifles I did see as being quality. 3 though. That was it! Out of the 100s of ARs that were there. A Troy (quality honestly is still in question in my mind), a 6920 and a LMT Defender. I actually freaked out I even saw the LMT at a gun show.

On a lighter note I had a booth and sold over 150 Brownells magazines in 2 days. Yep the craze is on.

I like the pic with the ivory gripped revolver stuck in the front of the guy's pants. The stereotypes are real.

Nice rifle! All of the keymod pics I've seen recently are tempting me something awful, I think my next build will go that route.

As far as 2MOA vs. 4MOA, I was a little concerned I might not like the little 2MOA dot of the PRO I ordered after being used to the big ring of my EOTech, but the 2MOA actually works well for me. I was afraid it would be too small for fast acquisition, but I had no problem with it right from the start. It works well for shooting out to 200 yds, too. I think the 4MOA would be too big for that.

looks like Rustoleum's Camo line of paint in the "Brown" color. It closely matches Daniel Defense's Dark Earth
