Issues like battery bounce or saving rail space for a magnifier?
Battery bounce causing the connectors to come off. That's what happened with mine, though it still worked afterwards.

That's odd. I would have imagine those type of issues would have been resolve in newer versions. That's a shame.

They were, the newer versions are the XPS/EXPS. I guess it was decided that the design needed to be changed in order to fix it.

I meant fixed in newer manufacture versions of the 553.
It looks like the safe bet is just purchase the EXPS3-0. Thanks though.

Yes. New handguard called the Premium. Also a new Lancer tunable muzzle break called the Nitrous Compensator. There are two jets at 12 o'clock that have several inserts with different port diameters that allow you to tune the comp. The barrel nut system is also much lighter than the older design. The only draw back I see with the new handguard is the lack of QD socket in the barrel nut assembly and I have not seen the new handguard with any rails on top for a front sight. I would like to see a rail on top for the addition of an offset red dot or iron sight.

Because shitty optics mounted like that on shitty rails can lead to issues with the optic holding zero. Neither the optic nor the rail are shitty in this case so I'd say he's G2G. :agree:

That's exactly my thoughts but after talking to IG (he feels the same way as warner41), I moved it back a notch just for peace of mind.

It is a TROY grip. Not sold on it but its a bit bigger than the Magpul K grip if that helps any.

So this build started off as a box of spare parts.
A BCM BCG, CH, and upper receiver, a DD 14.5" M4 barrel, a KAC A2 flash hider and A2 pistol grip, a Centurion C4 7" rail, some Surefire ladder rail covers, a TLR-1 HL in a HSP rail mount, a LMT SOPMOD and fixed rear sight, an Aimpoint PRO in ADM mount, and an Ergo gapper swarmed my Noveske SBR lower and captured it for nefarious purposes.
This is the result, something similar (KAC instead of Centurion, different Aimpoint mount, different trigger/guard, and a different selector) to what I'm issued. What a coincidence!
It's really light and maneuverable... I feel like if I killed the A2 grip so it wouldn't come back and replaced it with my BCM mod1, I would have no complaints whatsoever running this build. For what it's made for (100-250m), I think it's a great setup, it's hard to beat unless you run a suppressor.
Who would have thought that all you really need is a light, aimpoint, and sling. Now to get another lower to make this build a permanent thing... And to pin a muzzle device when I get around to it.

I'd like to think my background of law (you legal types might notice The Blue Book next to Strunk and White), computer science, history, art, and the military while living all over the country and visiting quite a few others before joining the military gives me a fairly interesting perspective. I don't think I'm the most interesting man in the world, but I try to be something like a jack of all trades.
In that picture you might be able to find Kyle Lamb's book Green Eyes and Black Rifles. Great book worthy of a read by anyone interested in the platform. At one point I wanted to compile all the information I could about the AR into one book... Then I found out it was already done.

How do you like your Griffin flash comp?
It's very effective, and I like it a lot. I haven't noticed any flash during the day (although I have some high speed camera footage I should review, mostly out of curiosity) and the comp portion of the muzzle device keeps the rifle flat.
From the shooter's perspective and from standing about 10' away on the ejection port side I do not notice the "whump" that most brakes radiate out.
Given the reasonable price point, the 17-4PH stainless construction, the predrilled hole for blind pinning and welding (the M4SD II is long enough to bring a 14.5" barrel past 16"), AND compatibility with the Griffin Armament suppressor, I really have nothing to complain about. :happy:

I really like the LED ACOG, mostly because I can control the illumination intensity with a large, easy-to-use knob (vs tiny switches), I don't have to worry about replacing the tritium element, and the battery life is more than adequate -- not Aimpoint long, but definitely hundreds of hours.
I also like the placement of the RMR better than on earlier ACOG/RMR combos; the forward position of the RMR on the LED ACOG does not interfere with the brim of a hat or the lip of a helmet. That having been said, the RMR requires a chin weld and more compensation for offset at close ranges. The top mount does make the RMR accessible with either eye vs having it mounted offset to the right or left. As with everything, it's a tradeoff.

I completely agree, I was very impressed with mine. I put one on a 10.5" barrel because I know how blasty and prone to shooting fireballs that short of a barrel can be and I was extremely impressed. I ran that for a bit and then tried a Battle Comp on it just out of curiosity. The battle comp is much prettier and great for a barrel long enough for complete powder burn but on a shorty, IMO the flash-comp blows it out of the water. Now if BC could make a flash comp of their own... :D

Good choice with the DDM4 V1. Doesn't take much to turn it from great rifle to an excellent one.
Mine started as a V4 with a 9in rail system but I have done a lot to my rifle just cause I'm constantly upgrading and playing with my rifle systems :)

God I love the Geissele rail systems. Everything I have read and seen on them is just making me want to buy.... I love Geissele products anyways. If their rails are like their trigger systems and customer service then I believe I will be switching rail systems again soon.
I run Geissele triggers in both my AR-15 variant rifles and my AR-10 variant (LMT308MWS).
I love the look of your rail system brotha.

Took the wife shooting today. I recently got the Primary Arms 1-6x and like it so far, but it replaced the TA47-2. I like having the variability as the PA is on my deer/coyote/do it all gun. I had my Aimpoint T1 on the wifes and she actually likes the TA 47-2 better due to the magnification. Shucks! Going to have to save up some cash for the Micro to have an upper. Best part of taking her out is her realizing the benefits of a comp, thinking about getting her a BCM comp. Here's my junk gun and hers.

Sorry, that random picture was just thrown up in addition to my post about the IWC mount. The rifle is actually using a Gear Sector x-series mount at 12:00 on the very last notch so it over-hangs a little.
Here are some comparisons:
Left is a BCM 14.5" upper with a Geissele MK2 13" rail. The x300 light is mounted using an IWC 45° mount on the 9:00 rail.
Right is a BCM 14.5" upper with a Troy TRX Standard 11" rail. The TLR1-s light is mounted using a Gear Sector 45° mount on the 12:00 rail.

Agree! I don't care what anyone says about NF being over priced...etc they are worth it. Yes there are plenty of other brands out there that match quality but the design and feel of a NF is just slick and would match your Noveske setup just right.
What are you looking to put on it? A NXS 1-4x or another compact version like the 2.5-10x or are you going higher power?
I run a NightForce NXS 5.5-22x50 with MOAR reticle and ZeroStop (MOA / MOA) on my 308's but have been waiting to have the extra funds to drop on a compact like the new version of the 2.5-10x32 or maybe the 2.5-10x42 with MOAR reticle.

Had to share some pics of my LMT308MWS rifle system that I have been modifying for some time now. Just waiting to get it Cerakoted. In the pics I'm running a 16in CL barrel but I also have a 20in CL barrel for it as well. I am also on the hunt for a 6.5 creedmor, 243 or maybe a 260 barrel....now if I could only find one of these barrels :confused:
I will updated with all the specs and mods ASAP.

I was going to ask if it was a ND3, they're green illuminators for shooting coyotes/varmints at night. They're badass and a hell of a lot cheaper than true night vision.
