Never had this kind of gear when I was in the Corps:D And Yes, the safety is "Off" as the magazine and chamber are empty. Just wanted to cover that base for the "eagle eyes" out there. And also, it is a Stag "Lefty" as I am also.

Do hope I can get authorization to use "Attachments" so I can post a larger pic in the future. My pic looks like a postage stamp compaired to the rest on this thread.

While not Dinger or Marc,
The Redi-Mags I use are the newer ones RM II BCE -- they are simple to install and have a seperated paddle to release the mag (which was my biggest hate with the original) and the Bolt Catch Extension allows for more "normal" weapon drills.

Could you give a description of your carbine?
The rifle. Colt all the way. At one time I was under the impression that they had anti-civilian sales policies, but the fact that I purchased two of their “LE only” rifles would indicate otherwise to me. I won’t go into all of the little things that make Colt the best, but they are the best FOR MY PURPOSES. I started with a 6520. It has an A2 upper, but a lightweight barrel. It also has the M4 feedramps which I do believe add to the reliability of the firearm. I then bought a Colt M4 upper and had ADCO change over the barrel when they installed my Daniel Defense rail.
The rail. I chose Daniel defense for several reasons but the first and foremost is the weight savings. They are also able to be installed over a shaved down stock front sight base. My 6520 barrel did not have an “F” height FSB so I couldn’t use it anyway with the flattop upper. By shaving it down I saved even more weight, plus I remained as close to stock as possible. The longer length of the 9.0 DD rail covers more of the barrel for when I have to transition to a handgun or otherwise sling a hot rifle.
The stock. I chose the Vltor because it was lighter and had storage. No other reasons.
The pistol grip. I chose the Tango down because it’s comfortable, also has storage, and fills the gap under the trigger guard with an integral piece instead of having to use a separate “gapper”.
The sights. Or Back Up Iron Sights (BUIS). The Troy are the best I’ve seen, and I like the fact that they click into place when deployed. The HK style hood on the front is also nice and aids in lining up the front and rear. I tried the ARMS, the GG&G MADD, and the detachable carry handle and I greatly prefer the Troy. I also like to have the view through the optic as uncluttered as possible so I prefer a flip-up front.
The optic. The 1.5x Compact ACOG won hands down. It is not subject to astigmatism issues, it is capable of running with both eyes open, it doesn’t require batteries, it has a slight magnification to aid in longer range shots and target identification, it’s very robust, and I can still see the BUIS though it. The model I’m using is the TA45R-2 which has a 3.6” eye relief making it possible to mount it quite far forward as shown in the pic and allows me to use my BUIS through the optic without having to dismount it.
The optic mount. The Larue absolutely returns to zero after being removed. This is true not only for the ACOG mount but the Aimpoint mount at well. It also is adjustable to make it as tight or as loose as you want and to fit non-spec rails. No other mount come close.
The sling. Single points are best for my application. While the tac sling may be more comfortable in the long run when standing still, if you’re walking about, bending over, climbing in and out of cars & chairs, the single point is the way to go. The Wilderness sling is the simplest version I could find, and I tried the Troy and Specter Gear before it.
The sling mount. Since Colt stakes their castle nuts on the receiver extension of collapsible stocks (like everyone is supposed to) I didn’t want to remove it to install a single-point mount. Daniel Defense makes a great bolt-on version that just clamps down on the receiver extension and had a push-button quick release swivel.
The charging handle. I like the Gas Buster. I eventually intend to run a silencer on this rifle from time to time, and the Gas Buster helps to prevent blow-back from getting on the shooter’s face. But the real reason I like it is that the handle is the perfect combination of enlarged but yet low-profile, and the overall handle is just beefier.
The light. There really isn’t anything better than a dedicated Surefire weaponlight. The bezel and body are designed to withstand the shock of the recoil and extend the life of the light over a non-shock system that is pressed into service as a weaponlight. It’s also good if you can detach it to save weight when it’s not needed and so you can use it as a hand-held light if needed. I prefer to run it at 9 o’clock and activate the tailcap with my thumb. Wires for remote switches just get caught on things and don’t do much good if you don’t have a vertical grip. Once I add the larue QD lever I'll be able to choose whether or not I want the light for the particular situation.

Yesterday I reconfirmed the zero, then started hitting the gong (approximately 24" in diameter) at 450 yards. First round was a miss as I applied a little too much hold over, but after I adjusted the holder over I hit the gong for the next 19 rounds. Then it was off to do some CQB and transitioning drills. I'm very pleased with the way this project turned out.

I used Testors Model Master enamels like on my 16" 6.8mm Carbine. I think it was SAC Bomber Green 34159. It even comes in a spray can.

That is a Spike's Tactical rail. It clamps on the barrel nut so you don't have to remove the nut to install it, just the brake and FSP. It is milled from a solid piece of aluminum and it has been rock solid. The top rail lines up with the upper to give it the monolithic look and feel. Not to mention I think it looks sharp with the painted barrel underneath.

Hopefully, I'll finally be done with my shorty 6.8 very soon with the addition of FDE troy sights and a Larue mount for the ACOG soon.

Well, I just put it together... about 10 minutes ago... :)
Here are the details...
Rock River Arms Complete Lower Half / 2-Stage National Match Trigger / 6-Position Tactical CAR Stock, Hogue Rubber Grip
Rock River Arms Government profile "Entry Tactical" Upper Half with a 1:9 chromed lined barrel / Dominator 2 EOTech Mount with rear sight

I bought the lower about a month ago and I received the complete upper this afternoon.

My new AR. Just completed it today. LMT upper and lower, Magpul CTR stock, TD VFG, BFG VCAS, LT 7.0 rail and Aimpoint mount, Aimpoint M2. Haven't decided on a BUIS, but will probably go with a Troy. The Aimpoint is going to get sold to fund a NF 1-4 NXS hopefully in a few weeks...other wise I'm going to go with an LT BUIS. I need a light as well.

My favorite AR, a green mutt. Needs an LT 606 and a WG6D
http://www.virginiarangers.com/albums/album29/DSC00002.sized.jpg
Duracoated RRA upper and lower, chrome lined 14.5" 1x7 barrel, assembled locally from all sorts of pieces and parts. A true mutt and the gun I've shot the most.
My backup gun. Also needs an LT 606 and WG6D
http://www.virginiarangers.com/albums/album29/DSC00003.sized.jpg
Stag complete upper, Eagle lower with RRA LPK, CMT stock. Both have Boonie packer slings (1.5" and 2" models) and KAC M4 RAS with optics on Larue mounts. Backup has a leftover Arms 40L while Greenie has a Troy BUIS that is a POS. I trust both guns, but I trust the Aimpoint more than the EOTech, so that gun gets shot more.
Lightweight. Needs lots of stuff. Still pretty much in the idea stage.

My first AR, Bushmaster M4A3 with a Yugo DCI build AK47.
http://www.members.cox.net/gringle84/AR-AK.jpg
I have heard and read all the negative about Bushmaster, so far this one shoots good and having just around 500 rnds without a problem, I'm happy. The key appeared staked properly and is tight, the stock nut isn't staked, but the over all fit and finish is good.
As I learn more about the AR platform and add to my tool supply, I will want to build one starting with a POF lower and go from there. The wife wanted me to find a hobby and I have always enjoyed firearms since my dad taught me how to shoot the old Ruger 10/22.
Mainly my firearms are for range work along with home defense if necessary and I used to reload for my handguns and will want to get back into that down the road and may also for the rifles.
I normally didn't like any calibers below .30 but this is starting to grow on me and the wife has a list of AR stuff for Santa that she's not telling me about.
Love this site!
Robert
P.S. We are both former military, the wife being a Marine and I Navy......In this house it's Semper Away or Anchor's Fi.....not sure which........

What is/was your MOS?
My primary was 0313. I was with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance. I've been a driver and gunner on an LAV when needed. I've also spent a little time with the 81mm mortar, but the majority the of the time I was a Scout. If your not familiar with LAV's each LAV has a four man fire team in the rear. I got out as a Corporal.

I snapped some crappy pics of my first built-by-me AR. The girlfriend has assumed ownership of my other RRA M4gery, so I owed it to myself to build the next one how I wanted. :D Shipping it out today for the HK416 selector pictograms and HK semi-gloss refinish job. The Centurion C4 diopter sights will be here by January, then my Aimpoint ML2 in a LaRue mount goes back on.

Actually it's the device that allows you to use the M203 without the rifle.
Are all 4 of those lowers RRs? I am pretty sure I see the pin in ALL of them.
Hot Damn!

Colt that started out as a 6520 that I put a 6920 upper on. The grip is an old A1, with a little rubber gap reducer. I hate the finger groove of the A2.

Big thanks to Grant for the Troy sight and the LaRue mount!

I'm a fan of putting my weak hand (left hand) out on the rail/foregrip quite a bit. I put my weak hand thumb towards me (rather than choking the grip)on vertical foregrips. One thing I like about the M900/910 is that the light itself sort of captures your hand and keeps it from slipping forward - In my case, onto a possibly hot FSB. Having it out at the front like that does move the center of gravity of the gun forward, but I've not noticed any substantially greater fatigue from it. (yet)
I'm always looking for better ways to do things, so I'm sure it'll change at some point again in the future.
