I am hearing that this has been booked solid.
A buddy and I are in and just wanted to see who else was as well.
I have contacted some distributors and shops in the area about some bulk ammo orders. Still waiting on response, will post what I hear back. If any one has a lead on any lets us know.
232 days. Not that I'm counting
I am signed up for Carbine 1. Do you know what range it will be on?
i was going to sign up next week when i get my x-mas bonus. is it booked up?

I am seeing people say that it is, but I would contact MD directly to confirm.
I contemplated doing the waiting list thing last year for a course. Its not uncommon to fill it up right away but being so far out there could be a cancellation or two. At least its an option.
I really want to take the Carbine 1 segment of this class. I was looking at it last week but stupidly decided to wait until today to try to book - and now it's filled up. I'll ask to be put on the waitlist but who knows.
Total bummer man. I live in FL and my brother lives in Gainesville, so this would have been such a convenient location for me. I'd really rather not do a class in a location where I would have to fly and stay at a hotel, and have to deal with all the logistics of shipping ammo, etc.
SO (and others) - If i can somehow weasel my way into this class, I'd gladly let you ship some ammo to my place and I'll take it up with me (I'd be driving from Orlando).

Thanks "Dude". Im coming up from Orlando as well and my buddy lives up in Gville too so this couldn't be more convenient. Hopefully it makes a good impression and we round up a core group who can ensure at least one stop a year in the area from now on.
I'm number 5 on the waitlist - bleh!
I'm number 5 on the waitlist - bleh!
i think im either number 4 or 6!
i think im either number 4 or 6!
F it - I just signed up for Vicker's Handgun/Carbine 1 in Moyock, NC in April.
I'd rather do the Gainesville class because it's only about an hour and a half from me. It would be infinitely more convenient to just throw my gear in the car and drive up. Oh well.
I'd love to do the Magpul Carbine 2 IF they will count my Vickers 1 as a pre-req. Anyone know if they will? Vickers 1 will be my first carbine course.
Was this actually announced anywhere?
Although maybe it's best that it wasn't. As a UF alumni I can say that the last place in the state I want to be in July is Gainesville!

Card charged for deposits and confirmation emails received, its officially official.
Lebowski- Check the MD course pre-reqs but coming from Vickers it should count.
Rob- yeah its gonna sizzle and were probably all going to get soaked with a storm or 6 (at least 1 per day) but hey embrace the suck and train how you fight. Still going to be a blast.
230 Day
I was thinking the same thing - July in Gainesville was an interesting scheduling choice. I'd tough it out though, and apparently there's no shortage of people lining up to do it.
The storms I wouldn't worry about too much - it will be hooooooooooooooooooot.
Confirmed Vickers 1 counts as the Pre-req, so I am signed up for Magpul Carbine 2 in Gainesville, and still on the waiting list for Carbine 1. Will bring plenty of sunscreen - damn it's going to be hot.
Any info on local ammo for this class is greatly appreciated, I'm in for the Carbine 1 class. I will be traveling by plane so bringing 2k to 2.5k of ammo might be....hmmm kinda problematic. But if it has to be done then.... :p

I know some guys at Shoot Straight and at the Gander Mountain and they are trying to hook me up with their reps.
There is also a large distributor for PMC and Winchester ammo 10 minutes from me and I contacted their sales dept. Still waiting though.
Trying to be proactive and 7.5 months should be plenty of time for ammo. Plus a nice bulk order would really cut down on cost.
Keep following here, when I hear something I will post ASAP.
my xmas bonus will be in the savings account in about 2 hours. Im going to go with Palmetto State Armory and pick up 1000rds.
I am signed up for both classes. I'm coming down from way north and haven't decided whether to drive or fly. And locals can recommend a good/cheap place to stay? Or anyone else from the northeast who may be interested in splitting a ride or hotel? PM me.
Thanks!

there is a motel 6 right off I75 on Archer....and me thinks a red roof inn across the street.
It looks like the class is going to be hosted at the Gainesville Target Range. http://www.gainesvilletargetrange.com/index.html

What is the procedure to fly with firearms and ammo? I'll be coming from the northeast so either a 3 hr flight or a 20 hr drive...
Hey, I am getting confirmation on shipping a weapon to yourself via FedEx, will have an answer by his weekend. If not you will need a hard case with locks for air travel and you have to contact the airline, I think there is some paperwork to fill out. For ammo I am checking what is needed.

I found out about the class a few weeks ago, and sent an email to Jill about being put on the waitlist. I got a response that the list was quite long and I probably wouldn't get in but was put on it nonetheless. Well, on Monday I got a call that I'm in. So, I will be taking the classes back to back. As a UF Alumni, I will be staying with local friends. I currently live in Tampa, so I am relatively local. I noticed people wondering about shipping ammo; if anyone wants to ship me ammo, I'd be more than happy to drive it up there for you. Just shoot me a line as we get closer to class if you want.
Look forward to seeing the rest of you there!

I also saw people asking about hotels. There are a couple of places off 39th street and I-75. That area would be the closest and easiest to the range. Let me know if you need any help.

You should email Jill and ask if you never heard anything. I sent my paperwork in about the class probably before you; it's been since end of November, but I did get an email response back within a couple of days that it was basically hopeless.

i talked to her on december 1 on my lunch break and faxed everything in when I got off of work. I shot her an email as soon as I read your post!
Anyone coming from the northeast? If so, PM me. Looking for someone to split the drive and gas.
Thanks!

Out of curiousity was that Carbine 1 or Carbine 2 that you got in from the waitlist?
Also wanted to throw it out there, I live in Winter Park FL which is about 20 minutes from the Orlando airport and about 1 1/2 - 2hrs to Gainesville. Any of you who will be flying into Orlando and renting a car that are having problems w/ the logistics of getting bulk ammo, PM me and we may be able to arrange for you to buy bulk ammo online and ship it to my house. I'm signed up for Carbine 2 and waitlisted for Carbine 1.
For those of you asking about flying - flying with a firearm is pretty simple (just hope they don't lose my luggage, as Delta lost my shotguns on a recent quail hunting trip ... they were ultimately recovered thankfully). The difficult part is the ammo requirements for these courses will almost certainly exceed the limit you can fly with. Check the TSA guidelines as well as your airline's guidelines (both available via a quick google search) for flying with the firearm - bottom line is you'll need a quality hard case with a quality (non TSA) lock.
For those of you looking for hotels - there are plenty of reasonably priced hotels in Gainesville, you shouldn't have a problem. My brother lives there so I'll be staying with him.

It was both actually.
So any updates on shipping rifles to yourself? And shipping ammo? Any chance we can ship ammo directly to the range or shipping to the hotel we'll be staying at?
Thanks!
I live only a few miles south of Gainesville and I am signed up for Carbine 1.
If anyone wants, they can ship their stuff to me and I will bring it on the first day if you can't arrange anything else.
Only 2 more months to go until Magpul Gainesville!
Damn, just got a call I'm up on the waitlist for Carbine 1 (already enrolled in Carbine 2). I don't know, really tempting, not sure I can take that much time off work. This will only be my 2nd carbine course (took vickers carbine/handgun 1 in April) so the refresher would be nice ...
Have 24hrs to let them know
Do it..............
I definitely want to, the extra time off work will be a stretch, it's the busiest part of the quarter for us.
How many of you guys are doing 1 and 2 back to back? 6 straight days in the July heat, bring plenty of sunscreen
I'm still on the wait list as I haven't received a call. But, even if I do, I will have to pass, I had an appendectomy on saturday morning and will have incoming med bills. Hopefully youse guys will be back in Florida next year!
I am doing both Carbine 1 and 2. ITs going to be HOT but it will be worth it.

I know the feeling, I had gotten into both 1 and 2, had approved vacation request, then got reassigned and was no longer allowed off the 25th and 26th so I had to drop 2 . Hopefully it comes around the state again soon.
Maybe we'll get lucky and get one of those Florida oranges cold freeze!

The rifle you can bring it on the plane just like you do your luggage. It has to be in a pelican case, unloaded and locked. As for the ammo, ship it ups. Fedex has additional charges for shipping ammo, UPS does not.
Read below - and I did ask the airlines and ended up with a $240.00 fine from LE / TSA. TSA told me the correct way to transport a firearm.
To fly with a firearm, the locks on the case need to be your own - NOT TSA locks. When you check in, you will be asked to open the case and show them the contents, and it's possible you'll be asked to open it again by TSA agents.
I would NOT recommend going to the airport and asking a random LE or TSA agent (whether you write down their name or not if they're wrong they're wrong and it won't help you). Go to TSA website and read the rules. Then, go to your airlines website and read their rules (airlines sometimes can have more stringent rules than TSA, as I found out recently when I flew Southwest and tried to check about 30 lbs of fresh caught tuna packed in ice in a cooler that was well secured - TSA allows it, but Southwest didn't). After you've done that, print up copies of the TSA rules and the airline rules and bring them with you, just in case the airline employee who checks you in doesn't know the rules.
When I fly with a long gun, I use a pelican case, but really any quality hard case that is lockable should work. I write my name, home town, and contact # on the exterior of the case in sharpie in multiple locations. Flying with a firearm really is not that difficult - that said, when I go to a carbine course my preference is to drive, mainly because of all the ammo and other gear you have to bring. Note most airlines will limit the amount of ammo you can check, and the amount you need for most carbine courses will almost certainly exceed that limit by a very wide margin so if you can't drive, shipping it UPS may be the best option (I'd probably call Gainesville Target range and ask if you can ship it to them, if not I'd try your hotel). One quick caution against flying with a firearm - last November I went on a quail hunting trip and checked two shotguns, as well as my concealed carry piece and some ammo. Delta lost my guns. Ultimately they were found and returned to me, but I didn't have the use of them during my hunt and the idiots at Delta had confused me with someone else and actually shipped my locked case containing my guns to that person's house (luckily he was honest enough to refuse them and they eventually came back to me). I don't think this is too common, just remember your guns can be lost just like any other checked luggage.

Speaking of which - I don't think I ever got an email on what time and where to meet Sunday. I'm guessing a little before 8am? Do we need to know what range or anything or will it be obvious when we get there (I've never been to G-ville tgt range).
Be here by 730 am day 1 bring lots of fluids

Finished up Carbine 1 yesterday, a few thoughts:
First off, it was hot. Second off, the class is phenomenal. It goes without saying that it is a lot of fun. You get to play with the toys and jock up with the cool guy gear and all, but it is also some serious shit as well. You are definitely pushed to your point of failure, very quickly. I went into the class with a mindset of “I don’t know, what I don’t know”, but eager to learn. I left with “ I KNOW what I don’t know” – which to me is all the difference in the world. I learned what my weakness are, and how to train and drill to try to work them out. I, like a lot of people, learn a lot about their kit, what works, what doesn’t.
Beyond the regular curriculum I really appreciate Steve sharing with us his opinion on Eotech’s, alternate uses for small children and puppies, how to hook up with fat chicks without being ridiculed, and why you should never overlook a paraplegic women. These are life lessons I will take with me and treasure always.
In all seriousness, this is without a doubt, world class instruction, and a world class program. Hearing the enthusiastic comments from the LEO’s and professional trigger pullers at the end of the class was proof positive of that. I really appreciate how much goes into the curriculum, the hard earned lessons, and especially how passionate the instructors are. A big thanks to Chris, Steve and Mike.
My biggest regret was not being able to attend Carbine 2, but I have now whined enough about it and my work, blah, blah blah, that I can now just get the fuck over it. Rest assured, I will be back for the next available class.
Oh, and Steve don't forget, you owe me a Magpul shirt.
I definitely agree, this was an amazing class. It was hot as balls, but it was awesome.
I agree, excellent class with top notch instructors. It was also a lot of fun. Can't wait to do it again.
Amazing class, can't wait for another one! I'm still sorting through the pictures from day three and will have them posted in the next few days.
Ok, I've gone through the photos and found the better ones. I'm no photographer, so they still aren't all that great. There should be one of every shooter (numbered) and in general I have about 4-6 of each shooter. If you are interested in the other pictures just shoot me a PM and I'll get you higher res copies of the photos.

Probably close.
Although, I got to fire it for a bit and I was surprised at how light the Z6i was for what it is, and how well that rifle actually handles. Oh, and yes I really want one now; I do like the BRT reticle, and the illumination is outstanding. Only downside I found to be black rifle + being in sun all day + URX III + rapid firing = hot. I definitely needed gloves for it.
Carbine II was great, thanks guys.
Hope Magpul comes back to FL in 2012 - hopefully more like Jan-March or Oct-Dec though.
It was an awsome 6 days in the hot as hell weather.
Definitely was hot as hell! But at least the last few days has some breeze and thunderstorms to cool it down a bit. Came away a better shooter, no doubt about it. Practice your fundamentals!
Where are the photos of us dynamically picking up 32,000 pieces of brass?
Carbine 2 pics are on my facebook page.
I heard two EOTechs crapped out during this class.
Anyone know what happened to the optics? Battery related? Reticle?
I think they were battery related.
