View Full Version : Vltor Reviews Wanted.
If you kind folks who own the Vltor MUR and Vltor CASV could please let me know what you thin of them. Im thinking of using the MUR on my upcoming SPR and want to know if its worth the extra $$ over a regular upper?
I have a MUR on my Adco built upper. I got it strictly because it looks cool. The fact that it is supposed to be dimensionally more accurate and stiffer is icing on the cake that won't help my lousy shooting ability one bit. The CASV I can't help you with as it doesn't appeal to me at all.
Would I use it again at twice the price of a regular upper? My brain says no but I've been known to be a slow learner at times.
Does yours have the FA? I wonder how solid it is?

Yes and very solid. I shot it suppressed 90% of the time and notice no extra gas coming out of that area either.

I used a MUR 1 w/FA on my 3gun rifle also mostly for looks. I do love billet uppers and lowers. When torquing barrels and knocking roll pins into them they just seem so smooth. This rifle will eventually have a Sun Devil lower when ever they decide it's time to ship it.

If I hadn't used a billet upper I would have gone with a Daniel Defense upper receiver which I think is probably the finest forged upper in the industry.

I bit hard on the MUR and the VIS when they first came out, I was really stoked for the different product line offered by Vltor:

Like someone mentioned above, the MUR seemed pretty damn cool, and the science behind the design aiding in it being completely straight and true, sounds like well founded theories/science. Can I back that up? nope, but i'll take faith in it :)
I do like the VIS setup, If I ever wanted to build a 6.8, I do not have to dedicate an entire new upper, tax stamp, etc, simple barrel change, with a new barrel nut for peace of mind...
I've got a CASV-EL on a 11.5" upper. I like it better than the ARMS system, and if I remember correctly the CASV equipped upper did the best in KLDavis' reciever flex test. I prefer the KAC RASII to the CASV as it provides more optics mounting solutions.
My MUR/Sun Devil combo fits together perfectly, no play whatsoever. I was totally impressed with the quality of the billet upper and lower receivers and I think they are worth the small price premium.
Plus, the MUR has the cool VLTOR logo on it ... :)
Thanks for the info guys im either going to build a SPR with a Sundevil upper and lower or a MUR upper and Sundevil lower. They are only 45mins from me so its easy to drop in and pick the stuff up from Sundevil. They are making complete weapons in different types of configurations now besides the S&W but they use DPMS parts and Commercial tubes or I would just buy something already together from them.
This is my first build that GotM4 helped me with.

Rock River lower, Vltor MUR upper, CMMG medcon stainless barrel and CASV handguards. GM4 suggested the CASV, and I'm glad he did! The RRA lower and MUR upper fit absolutely perfectly together - when they're attached, it's like one monolithic piece.
BigDog,
How do you like that optic vs. an Aimpoint?
Well, I've only ever seen an Aimpoint in gotm4's shop, never used one. But my ACOG is one of the compact models at 2x, and it's very sweet. Easy to use with both eyes open, but the extra bit of magnification helps on longer shots.
I had originally bought an EOTech 550 for this build, then a few days later the ACOG came into the shop used with a LaRue mount for under $600, so I snatched it up and returned the 550.
Never looked back!
I used an MUR-1 for 2 reasons. built thicker in a couple places and it is different.
it was a toss up for it or Larue's stealth and I chose "different"
my next one will be the Larue
just because
