Help with a Colt 6920

I have decided to take the plunge and buy a Colt 6920. I have 2 questions. Who has the best deals on them at this moment and are their any differences between older and newer models that I need to know about. The cheapest I have found is http://www.jensenarms.com/rifles_frameset.htm they have them for 1299.95 A local dealer has one for 1600 and want come off his price. I like to support the locals but college is killing my wallet at this point in my life.

That price is as low as I have ever seen ,the latest one's are rumored to have small pins and a Full circle M16 BCG . great rifle ,your going to love it . now when people tell you thier rifle is as good as a Colt for less money you can smile and say nothing and just keep grinning it will drive them nuts . I stan corrected Knesek has the lowest price $1210.00 .

Greetings, new guy here with my first post but not new to things that go boom.

I just today picked up a 6290 that ran me $1245 shipped to my ffl (+ $25 for the transfer). It has the circle C M16 bolt. The dealer I got it from only had 2, both gone now.

I've been to Jensen's (just up the road from me)- a great place, excellent selection of ebr accessories & guns. Good luck.

Gunbroker.com is worth a look. You never know, sometimes I see them for as low as $1,100 plus shipping. Bought many often hard to find things there without issue.

Code 4 is listing them at $1200. My local guy has them for $1199. Seems right now is a good time to get one...more supply than demand. Now if I can just sell that other kidney.... :D

I have about 200 rounds through my Colt 6920. Great gun except for the gritty 7 3/4 trigger pull. I ordered a McCormick drop in trigger from the factory, curved trigger set at 4.5 lbs. I ordered one with the large pins. They sent the one for the small pins. I expect the right trigger tomorrow.

With the new trigger it will be truly a fine rifle.

The Colt is a much more closely fitted rifle then the Bushmaster I sold.

I was told that if you buy the trigger from a supplier they will all be set for three pounds. But if you buy direct from the factory they will set it for the LE/military option of 4.5 lbs at no extra charge.

And this is a rifle from Colt Defense.

nice to see the drop in triggers fit with the (web/high shelf/blocker) Colt has in the lower. I have a Timney drop in in my Ameetec lower/LMT upper and I like it a lot .I was under the impression the drop in 's wouldn't fit in a Colt ,if yours works I'm going to try a Chip McCormik in my Colt . let us know how it works once the square you away with the correct pin size trigger.

Is your trigger bad enough to warrant replacing it? I'm the first guy to admit I'm all about a nice trigger job, but if the AR is gonna be a "fighting" rifle, rather than a benchrest or match rifle, even a really bad trigger is probably preferable in terms of durability to a match trigger. Do what ya want with it, its your gun, but I don't think its worth replacing...and I'll guarrantee the trigger in my carbine is worse than yours out of the box.:)

Most "newer" 6920's, likely including yours, seem to have the larger .170 pins. But, some have said that they got them with the smaller pins. Someone else here will have to tell both you and I what the benefit of the smaller size seems to be.

Another 1000 rounds or so of dry and live fire will settle that trigger in nicely. My 6920s break clean at about 5lbs+/-.

You would have to remove one of the fire control group pins.
Small pins measure around 0.155"
Large pins measure around 0.169"

The small pins are more preferrable because it gives you a wide range of available parts as well as easy compatability if you were to need to borrow spare parts in the field to keep a gun running.

Every maker of AR-15's uses small pins EXCEPT for Colt who uses large pins on guns made to be sold to the civilian market.

The large pins are to keep you from installing an M16 fire control group.
There is no other good reason for them.

Colt guns made for the military use small pins.

I've got a question regarding the BCG. My carbine came with a semi-circle bolt carrier with an unshrouded firing pin. I also noticed an additional forged "fence" inside the lower receiver, could I still use an M16 BCG?

You can use an M16 carrier as long as you don't have the raised hardened block protruding up from your lower receiver. If there's just the wall of aluminum between the rear takedown pin and disconnector then it won't interfere.
