View Full Version : Removing a mount with rockset
I just purchased an upper that has a mount for a SureFire suppressor on it. It was installed using rockset, as SureFire recommends.
I have been told I will need to heat it up to at least 1500 degree's to get the flash suppressor/mount loose. wouldn’t this damage the barrel. Should I just learn to live with this flash suppressor, and use a SureFire can if I want to suppress it.

I am curious as to my options, I don’t want to buy a new barrel just yet, this one only has just over 500 rounds though it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks (edited to add: I really wanted to run a Gem-Tech G-5)

I think it just gives you a good excuse to pick up a Surefire FA556K. They are awesome cans. Get one, you'll like it.

From what I understand you only need about 30lbs of force to break the Rocksett free. You should be able to get it off without any problem.

You shouldn't need heat....it will take more force than a crush washered A2 muzzle device, but a good 9" Crescent wrench should get it done easily.
Gentlemen, thanks for the information. I couldn't see mounting a suppressor mount with something that wouldn't be easily removed.

Rocksett strength is equivalent to Blue Loctite, it is just WAY more resistant to heat (which is why it is good for suppressor use). You should be able to torque it off with about 30 ft/lbs of pressure.

Rocksett is not nearly as strong as blue loctite.
Just wrench it off as if there was nothing there.
Rocksett is not really the best threadlocking compound until temperatures get well above the working levels of typical loctites.
At high temperatures, loctite becomes worthless, but Rocksett will still hold up.
That's why it's used instead of loctite on muzzle devices.
The easy removal of a rocksett mounted muzzle device is just a benefit.

This sucker ain't coming off. I had a friend hold down the upper on a table and I used an adjustable wrench. Only thing it did was dented the edges of the flash hider where the wrench goes.

Who mounted this muzzle device?? Are you sure it's not pinned or something?

Yep, I'm sure. I mounted it with about 4-5 drops of Rockset. I know I've been slacking on going to the gym lately, but damn!!! Maybe I just need to get the lower receiver armorer block from Brownell's, put it on a vise and use a pipe for some leverage.
Archangel mine broke loose with no trouble. Do you think they might have mounted it with Red Locktite or something like sleeve retainer? Good luck

I mounted it with Rockset. Let me bust out the Thigh Master and do a few reps to build up my strength and try again.
