View Full Version : Could I do better?

I can only afford 1 semi auto rifle and have settled on an AR15.
All the info I have on them was gained from this sight.
The rifle, or carbine actually will be for nothing more than wood chucks and coyotes, hopefully, but it will still be my only real defensive rifle for any scenario.
Having researched this sight very thoroughly, I have decided to build my own out of the highest quality componets I can afford, a little at a time.
I have decided to use a CMMG complete lower with no upgrades.
I am going to use a CMMG 16", mid length lower with a bolt purchased from Grant.
The rifle will have to function in the cold and from what I have read here, mid length is slightly more reliable?
I will eventually put railed handguards on it, but for now, I am going to put a Leopold 1-4x20 scope on it, and a light as soon as finances allow for it and the railed handguards.
The rifle will be at around $850, with iron sights as my only method of shooting for now.
The question I have is, can I do better for around the same $?
Thank you, Terry.

Although CMMG makes great products, take a look at the new M4's that grant sells. They seem like a hell of a deal for around the same ammount of cash.

If you can get a complete CMMG for $850 before your shipping & transfer fees, then you prolly can't do any better. CMMG makes fine rifles. It doesn't get much better than a CMMG for the price & I own a Colt that cost me a lot more cash factory stock.

Seems like the best deal going, especially when you consider that Grant will make sure things are right with it before he ships it.

You'll need to add a rear iron sight.

Thank you all for the replies.
I will probably just end up buying the ADS from Grant.
The main reason being Grant himself.
I just know someone is going to come out with a mid length of equal quality and price:(
Thank you all again, Terry.

I just know someone is going to come out with a mid length of equal quality and price:( I understand, but try not to let it bother you. That's the nature of progress. The first hard drive I bought was 32Mb (or so) and cost me a couple hundred dollars. You can now buy complete laptops with gigabytes of storage and a whole lot more for the same price.
You will still be getting one helluva sweet deal, regardless. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I refer my friends, I purchase myself and for my department from Grant. He's a man of his word and stands behind the porducts he sells. He also gives you a good deal. I can give no higher recommendation.
Buy the ADS from Grant, get some good training, and enjoy your rifle.

Either way you go you are going to get a quality, reliable weapon. You cannot ask more than that. Go shoot and enjoy the range time. I waited till I was out and on my own dime before I appreciated that what mattered was training and a reliable weapon that you know intimately and can utilize effectively and efficiently. I have not personally bought from Grant but I shoot in NOVA with someone who has. I can appreciate a tool that does what it is intended to do with no babying and normal pm's. His work is quality and correctly done for the serious nature of a defensive rifle.

+1 ON THE ADS M4 that Grant has,I have seen and handeled it and at that price there is nothing as nice for the price.I'm going to pick one up myself when funds become available next month . the finish on it is magnificent , far beond what you would expect at the price.
