On another board, a member found that a Colt inventor/employee recently applied for a patent on a double action 1911 set up.

http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220060150466%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20060150466&RS=DN/20060150466

If you look at the images, the rollmarks on the conceptual drawing are even marked Colt.

So has anyone with an inside loop heard anything about this?

This is the first I've heard of it.

Interesting.

Didn't Colt do a double action 1911 years ago, I think it was called the Double Eagle or something like that.

If I remember right there was nothing but problems with them, maybe they will get it right this time.

Yes, the Double Beagle. Only the All America 2000 sucked worse.

This new patent filed 12/16/05 appears to be a different design than the abysmal Double Eagle...

Wonder if this is Colt's entry into the Army's new sidearm trial.

What?! I love my Double Beagle! Really tho, the one I have, I've thoroughly enjoyed shooting. A bit bulky, grips leave some to be desired, and the openings on the frame make it easy for dirt and lint. And truthfully, now that I have an old ugly series 70, the 2Beagle will sit in the safe. Aint nuthin like a nice 1911! ...'cept maybe two 1911s....
