View Full Version : What combo of KAC panels to cover a LaRue 9.0?

I have an older version of the LaRue 9.0 without the sling QD mounts. I was wondering what combo of KAC panels (6 rib + 4 rib?) will cover the whole length of the rail?

Thanks!

Yojimbo, I don't have a LT 9.0 rail here but I think the panel combo below is about as close as you'd get. Not sure if both panels will be able to latch, though.

Mike729,

Thanks for the pics that helps a lot. I will be getting more kAC panels and I just wanted to get an idea of what sizes I might need for my LaRue 9.0.

I think you'll be able to latch both but you will see one "bump" (as opposed to notch) clearly between them.

IIRC I ran into this on one of my rifles. Forget which configuration it was but I ended up with 1/8" between the panels.

Regarding latching the KAC panels, on my LaRue 9.0 their are cutouts for the KAC panel latches but only on the fist and last rails. As long as you position the latch on the ends of the rail they will lock down.;)

This exact situation is why I have started to buy only 11-rib panels. When you buy them used, they're typically the same price as all the other sizes, but I can trim them to the exact size I need. Trimming takes all of three minutes with a Dremel tool.

Caporider,

Very true about the cutting.

I like the locking tabs on the TD panels but I like the thinness and feel of the KAC panels much more.

It looks like Bravo Co. USA has some panels on their site that look very much like the KAC panels but have the locking tabs like the TD.

Has anyone used these? If so what did you think of them?

I have those and they do look and feel a lot like KACs. I made the mistake of buying them from BCM because IIRC midway sells them for like $6-$9 each maybe. They are promag rail covers...

Nice looking SBR!:D

Do you think these rail panels are a good as the KAC or are they less heat resistant and less durable?

At those prices I'm concerned that's they're for Airsoft...

I have no problems with the KAC Rail covers locking down on my 7.0'' LaRue 2005 model. All I need is some OD and Tan KAC rail covers for my M4s.

I'm like Yojimbo and just like the look of the KACs. My old 12.0FSPM was difficult in that only the front and rear (like most) are notched for the rail panels. When I cut the rail down some, I no longer had a notch at the front and cut new ones myself. Luckily Jay at DD was nice enough to refinish my rail for me one day!
