What's this for? Crowd control? Surveillance? There was a camera in a pod on the opposite side.

It was parked in a shopping center parking lot next to a Best Buy.

That and this ad that popped up on the iPhone are making me wonder about this town we live in...

Is the tower near a major arterial or interstate? I would guess a possible place for traffic/speed enforcement. Tower officer lasers target then radios to intercept officer in vehicle.

Also love the suicide cleanup, reminds of that movie "Sunshine Cleaning", it is a booming business with a good market share.

That is a mobile observation tower that is often set up in a parking area with a history of BFMVs, in an attempt to deter the antisocial activity prior to its commission...

Thanks Buck, we don't have them around here so it was guess. Nice to know that Truthseeker's City council cares.

False sense of security device.

Basically it is an advanced model of the unmanned, parked patrol car.

Thanks, that makes sense. There's a craphole area just down the road, so maybe some of those dingdongs were causing trouble for the shopping center.

Good to know the LCPD doesn't mess around, though. :D

That might explain why the SUV said "Deep Water Rescue" on the side. I was trying to figure out how the hell those two things went together, but I guess they just needed a spare truck. :D

They put one in a local mall parking lot for awhile after there was a couple shootings.

It's either a deer stand or a camper for use in a flooded location.

Just click your home and sleep buttons together and say, "There's no place like home." :D

There was a couple at last years light up night. Except they were dark green. The first thing that came to my mind was mobile deer stand, just add a 3" lift kit and some 35" mud terrains.

That didn't seem to do anything. I must not have done it right...

Try holding one first and clicking the other. It should send the screen capture right to your photos.

I think this is a shoulder thing that goes up? Only the Police are allowed to have them.

They're nice if you have to survey a crowd, and there's no pre-established high ground. Problem is, you have to leave someone at the base to guard it if the crowd gets ugly.

Oh, and like some other posters have noted, it helps if you actually put someone in there, if it doesn't have cameras.

What yours is doing in a parking lot? Who knows...

Well, we have at least two of these at my department and they work great........, for their intended purpose.

Fourth of July event drew a HUGE crowd to watch the concert and fireworks. We took one of these and centered it right in the middle of the crowd and it gave us a 360 view. Two officers occupied it and watched the crowd for over 8 hours. They could see and send us (Cops) in to the crowd for medical emergencies (heat related for the most part), fights, lewd acts (you can imagine).

The damn thing worked great. They walked us in using the radios to situations that we wouldn't have seen, and they video tape us the whole time. We had several officers set up underneath it to deploy and greet people that needed help in the crowd knowing that the Tower was visible.

Now, for the mall parking lot. Our city has a ton of punks that break into cars in public places, say the mall. Throw the tower up and SHAZAM, no more vehicle break ins at the mall. Sometimes cops are up there......, sometimes its empty. Sometimes the video is running......., sometimes its not.

The tower is a great tool that can be used in a multitude of applications.
