I took back the SKB double rifle case that I bought from Gander Mountain a couple of weeks ago because it was just too big and heavy. I went to my favorite gun dealer today and I looked at a Storm im3300 and a Pelican 1720. Both cases seem to be about the same build quality IMO with the main difference being the latches and the handle. I checked prices online and I can get an equivalent size Pelican case for almost $20 cheaper than the Storm model. Is the Storm worth an extra $20? Has anyone had problems with their Pelican cases? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! :)

As a frequent traveller... what do they weight?

I have the IM3300. I chose it do to the great feedback from forums and their customer service. It's alittle heavy. But did you see the pick with the Hummer driving over it. I think it is well built.

I bought my Storm online, and will get another eventually. Who carries them in MI?

The Hardigg Storm cases are a lot better constructed than the Pelican.
I've not weighted them - but they seem fairly close.
It seems like the Storm and Pelican cases can be had for similar prices before shipping. Sizes are off by an inch or two, so it's almost a apples to apples comparisson.

The storm case wins in EVERY single aspect of your question. I have flown quite a bit with firearms in the last couple of years, long guns and handguns.
The ability to open and close the storm, the comfort of the handles, the positive locking of the latches, the wheels, the ability to lift, steer, and the all around look of the storm cases make them a pleasure to have.
If weight is your concern, take this into your consideration, Last year I went to Tiger Valley for 8 days, and I had to fit all of this into one case:
18inch SPR with US Optics scope
non-nfa 870 Shotgun
2 1911s
100 rounds of MK262
cleaning rod and set
Might not sound like much, but the case plus this gear was ALL underneath the 50lbs limit, so I didn't have to pay extra to bring this gear on the plane.
DO NOT allow a good case to be your only level of security, make sure you firearms are insured if you travel....keep pictures of them on you, stored on your email account etc if one were to go missing...

I've decided to go with a Storm case but now I need suggestions for which size to get. Right now I only have one AR, A LMT MRP with a 16" barrel but I plan on adding another AR with a 20" stainless heavy barrel with a Magpul PRS stock. Is the im3200 big enough(44" x 14" x 6") to comfortably hold both rifles with optics and accessories? From what I can tell the only differences between the im3200 and im3300 is only 6.5" in length. Thanks again for your help!

I'd go with the im3300 if you are planning on getting another rifle. It will have the room for it

I like these because they are all Al and the handle/roller set up is really nice.

I received my black im3300 from Larue Tactical on Friday. My initial impressions are that the quality of the injection molding is not up to my standards. In a few places there are splay marks and a big ugly splay mark on the top of the case. The Pelican's that I have seen have been better. Having worked in plastics for the automotive industry I know what it "should" look like. For all of you reading my post please understand that my minor complaint is only about the cosmetics and that should in no way effect the function of the case.

Look at it this way a RRA or a Bushy is often finished better and has a better fit than a Colt or LMT but what would you rather have for hard use?

without reading all of the other posts, I'll give my opinion. Besides being a firearm enthusiast, I'm also a professional photographer. For the price similarity between the two, the Storm cases take the cake for me. I wouldn't trust my $50k in camera gear to a Pelican. It just didn't seem to "do it". I keep my cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment in two Storm cases. I tried Pelican, but wasn't terribly impressed.

Hardigg Storm any day of the week. The latches are so much easier to use and the fit/finish is much better. Very solid case.

I don't sell Storm or Pelican. I sell Starlight. The Starlight are heavy and nearly indestructible. I have been told that the Storm have a similar toughness to them.
True Story:
A few years ago, I was at a gunshow and had the Starlight cases on display. A guy and his buddy stop. Guy explains to his buddy that his company has a bunch of Pelican and a bunch of Starlight cases. These cases are used to send expensive electronics test equipment and other sensitive gear all over the country with techs on planes.
Every year, they send 30% of their Pelican cases back for warranty repair or replacement. They have never sent back a Starlight.
I don't know anything more except what the guy explained to his buddy in front of my "booth." But based on this story, I would not buy the Pelican. Storm cases have a good rep based on what others have told me but I have no personal experience.

I own cases from SKB, Starlight, and Hardigg (Storm). I deal with Pelican cases frequently at work.
My preference is for the Storm cases, based primarily on the latches and the handles. My Storm case came from here (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Categories.bok?category=Gun+Cases+%2F+Bags).
Now had I known about M4C about a month ago and this thread regarding Hardigg|Storm and Pelican. . .
Oh well! Anyhou, the Pelican 1700 arrived today and I'm guessing that it'll be fine for my intended uses today. I've ceased and deceased from travelling all together which I've done in the last two (2) years, now that I've returned to school full-time.
But then again, I just may go ahead and get me that Hardigg|Storm.iM3100!

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a noveske n4 recce (16 in.) with the aac fh. I will eventually be adding another or perhaps a 14.5". Will the 3100 storm case do the trick? What about the hard/soft case combo from Larue? What are your thoughts of soft vs. hard cases. Due to department regulations my n4 will be in the trunk of my patrol car. I was worried about it getting knocked around.

The iM3100 should be perfect for either of those guns. With that said hard cases are primarily for traveling IMHO. I recommend a soft case for everything else because they are a lot lighter and less cumbersome to tote around. I've been toting around my gear in a iM3300 for nearly a year and let me tell you about cumbersome! My iM3300 is of course bigger than the iM3100 but the same concept applies, YMMV.
