View Full Version : Forward Set Sear/Trigger Release Date: May 16, 2011!
Hi all,
We have tentatively establish May 16 as the official release date of our newest offering to the M&P world: the forward set sear and OT/PT limiting trigger. Why May 16th? Well, basically because that is my birthday.:p
The sear and new trigger will officially be for sale on that date...HOWEVER!
On May 14-15, Operation Specific Training will be hosting our M&P operator's in Morro Bay, CA- the Hogue Action Pistol Range at the San Luis Obispo Sportsmen's Association facility. This 2 day course will be open to 25 students. These 25 students will be the first M&P owners in the world to have the FSS/Triggers installed in their guns days before they are available to the general public.
We wanted to have a small group of people experience the refinement of the trigger system prior to it's release, and learn about the process of running the gun at speed. This will also give people an opportunity to hear feedback from students about our parts and Operation Specific Training.
More to come...

May 16 is easily the best day of the year. Good choice!
A while back I read some kind of rumors about a brand new Apex trigger bar. Is the OT/PT trigger the one and the same?
If the OT/PT trigger is compatible with factory and/or DCAEK parts, I'm definitely down for one. Not so sure about a longer length of pull on the trigger, but a shorter reset (with overtravel adjusted accordingly) could make it worthwhile. Worst case I'll just change to a smaller backstrap :)
Just so I am clear, this is the mod that makes my M&P more like my 1911s? Also do you have a price range? I need to budget for them.
thanks

Hi kartoffel,
The new triggers will use the factory trigger bars. They will be manufactured out of Aluminum barstock and hard anodized. They will also have a smaller safety lever similar to the XD. This will eliminate flex in the system. We are still looking at the trigger bar, however we do not know if people will pay $200.00 for a trigger bar... to be made out of billet, most of the material will end up as waste.
The first trigger to be released will be for the FSS. Shortly thereafter we will release the trigger for use with our standard sear/ AEKs AND a new trigger for the SD 9/40. Scott has been working on the SD project to have a drop in kit that will make the trigger markedly better and lighter.

Hi supersix4,
The short answer is yes. The pre travel and overtravel are limited by the trigger body. This is the way I recommend OT/PT be eliminated on the M&P system. Total trigger travel is somewhere between .100" and .125". This is within the same travel range as the 1911s I have tested that are here in our shop.
The price will be somewhere between $100 and $150.00. The kit will include the Forward Set Sear, the trigger body and a new striker block specifically designed for the system.

I will.
the trigger for use with our standard sear/ AEKs
From a user's perspective, how does this compare to the F.S.S.?
The new trigger for our standard sear will remove the pre travel that is present before the vertical tab on the trigger bar connects with the striker block dome, and remove any undesirable over travel. So the striker release will still be towards the rear. For people with small hands or short fingers this should work well.
As far as the new bar, we are still looking at options so that we can provide a quality part at a reasonable price.

May I suggest MIM titanium?

Unfortunately, most of the Ti alloys that I am aware of do not handle abrasive wear. The cost of the molds would also run somewhere between $15,000 and $25,000.
We are currently exploring a forged blank to start the machining process.

Um Randy, who is going to be in St. Augustine on the same day? They still have you listed as being one of the instructors there.
Happy B-day !
I saw the date and thought..... "huh, thats MY birthday" then i read your post. Very cool.

Any chance of getting a (current) picture of the trigger? Also, any news of how the new barrel is coming along?
I'm thinking you folks are going to be very busy in another few days. :)

Who do you know that can offer professional installation of this trigger kit?

Not hard to do yourself or send it to Randy. I think he has prices on his website. There is a newer thread that has lots of info on the FSS Kit.
