Hello Everyone, I'm new here and I will be buying my first Colt next Friday.
My local gun shop (Scottsdale Gun Club) has both in stock. Somewhat expensive but of what I've read around here... Colt is the best. My question is which one out of the 2 do you most recommend? If I remember correctly the 6920 was around $100 more than the 6721. Thanks to all!!

Well... I'll be the first reply and ONLY reply to recommend the 6721! :D
I like the 1/9 twist because I don't shoot anything over 62 grains. Every so often maybe a 69 grain. I like the Hbar on the 6721.

Hello. I'd go with the 6920 because it's 1:7 twist barrel is better suited for the heavier 75-77gr. ammo.

Hi, welcome to the site.
I vote for the 6920 because of it's thinner, lighter government profile barrel and would be a good general purpose carbine.
Lighter weight barrels are easier to carry around for a long time, I've had Colt heavy barrel HBAR 20" rifle and currently a 6721 carbine but don't like the weight.
I changed my 6721 barrel with a 16" medium contour, midlength gas system barrel and I like it better now.
If it would just be a target range gun then the heavy barrels are fine.
Good luck.

Would the 6721 have the M4 feed ramps and/or M16 bolt? I think that is the 6920 only, but I could be wrong.

The last few (within the last 4-6 months)6721s we got for work had M4 ramps and that new extended selector switch, white t marked slots and were marked 'made in Canada'...yep they were "Colt Defense"....

With Colt there's no 100% rules for anything they do. My 6721 LE gun that I got during the ban came with the fully neutered carrier. The M4 upper however, would by default have to have the feedramps. (unless colt pieced some carbeans together useing extra rifle flat top uppers.

I suppose you can only count on those two things with the 6920, but maybe you were either lucky or unlucky:confused: .

Both of my 6721's have M4 feed ramps, one has an M16 BCG, the older one doesn't.

Likewise here. I chose the 6721 (twice) over the 6920 primarily because of the 1/9 barrel as I have about 8k rounds of 55 and 62 gr ammo and several thousand 55, 62 and 69 projectiles.
I do not find the Hbar to uncomfortably heavy and if I need something lighter/quicker it will be an SBR.

I just saw a recent production (mid 2007) 6721 with proper M4 ramps cut pre-anodizing, w/ M16 bcg. It was a US gun.
Nothing wrong with the 6721 at all. A buddys gun shoots various heavies extremely well, inc. 75gr TAP and Mk262 Mod 1.

The only Colts I see with M4 ramps cut after anodizing is on the 6520s (pencil bbl, in A2 uppers).
My Colt is a hybrid, 6721 lower with a 6920 upper. I prefer the markings of the 6721 lower ("Colts AR15-A3 Tactical Carbine" over the 6920 "Colts Law Enforcement Carbine) and I like the lighter 16" 1x7 twist barrel.
Here's what mine looks like currently until I add a 7" DD Omega rail or DD 9.5" Lite Rail. (undecided yet).

Nice - that's how I'd set mine up too; Aimpoint, Larue BUIS and mount, Magpul lower goodies.

Both the 6721 and 6920 have the M16 BCG since Colt had the BATFE approval in Feb. 2005.
Most Colt carbines have extended feed ramps since the '90s maybe even earlier, I don't remember if my SP2 first carbine back in '86 have any, older models don't have the same ramp angle as today's M4 feedramps but they're extended down to the upper receiver cuts.
My 6721 that I bought in '05 have M4 feedramps.

If you can swing it go for the 6920. It will do everything the 6721 will do only lighter and better (1/7).

3 members still there have adopted it. Every few days I check the Hometown forum and see it pop up. I still do a double take!
