I see the URX III's are starting to show up. Question is are the only spots to attach accessories on the front of the rail?

Is there any way to run a vertical forgrip or a magpul afg?

Assuming no cool rail panels either.

Thanks for any insight.

You could use the magpul moe rails and attach it to the screw holes on the sides and bottom rail. The only caveat is to find the correct sized rail section that has the corresponding measurements for the screw holes on the rail.

There may be other rails options out there that I don't know about but I'm pretty sure that is how one would attach rails to the URX III.

Got it. That is what I figured. I'm sure there are some low profile screw in rails.

I be someone will also make some rail panels that will fit so you don't have to grab on to that hot metal!

I have done shooting with the URX II but not sustain mag dump type firing. It gets warm but on the bottom of rail is aluminum type heat shield which does a decent job of protecting your hands.

I am sure the URX III will do just fine or KAC wouldn't have released it.

URXIII are not Magpul MOE rail compatible.

We have a bolt on URXIII handstop -- the user group that desired this rail did not want additional rail space.

I've got a URXIII on my SR-25 EMC, and shot a lot of our 5.56mm guns with them, they do get hot when shooting a lot -- however gloves help ;)

After about 8 mags f/a you REALLY need gloves

Does anyone have any customer pics of the URX III on an SR-15?

(Yes, I have seen the ones of Costa... and they are sweet...)

Pictures have been posted here:

I should be getting mine within the month as well, hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures but I think the pictures on ST display the whole layout pretty good.

The 16" AAC 300 Blackout uppers have the 12" KAC URXIII. Very cool rails, I want one to put on my KAC SR15E3 It'll require trimming down the gas block but I think it would look great.

I'm super contemplating buying three of 'em and having 'em chopped to fit an 11.1'' host + suppressor.

But I'm not sure if it's worth the money. Also, don't know what I'd do with the chopped down URX-II's I have...

Intresting.

So Kevin, if a user wants to add rails sections to the sides or bottom are you saying it's not possible?

Is there any bolt-on rail section on the market that will work with URX III?

Actually I have already played with these in my shop the Magpul MOE size 7 & 11 rib rail sections will actually line and allow you to mount on the bottom rail but the side would require a long URX side screw(not available). But the 7 & 11 rail sections will work only on the lower rail of the URXIII at this time. Also I have brought this to "3"'s attention so he is aware and looking at coming up with some sort of answer for this. Any news updates will be posted.

I spoke to III, and as Casey said the MOE rails line up, as I tried this at home with my SR-25, but need a modified screw, we will be making these available.

We have some other prototype rail segments as well designs for Military programs -- which will transcend to the commercial line up when available.

One of the reasons I sold my LW URX II is due to the heat and a few other reasons.

Post Tensioned on Silencer Talk is setting his up the way I would if I bought one. He's has or is going to use the KAC handstop and has drilled KAC rail covers and attached them via screws to the side rails. He'll be poetic back with how well it works. It appears to be stable as the part of the cover that slides over the rail supports it from shifting in any way since it still connects around the slick rail.

If I would have even thought of that, I may have kept my LW.

If it works well or if they should ever become available, having the option to use the KAC rail covers on the URX III would sell me on them and I'd buy at least the rifle length for one of my SR15's. Interested to see how guys like the mid length.

My URX III build... Many thanks to Casey at Lawmens and Robb at VA Arms.

AFG is secured via MOE Polymer rail as demonstrated above by Casey. Thanks for the idea! This one is the 11 slot rail.

Think there's any way to direct-connect the FAG?

Think there's any way to direct-connect the FAG?

Actually I think with some time and a dremel / drill you could attach the AFG... Would need to counter sink the holes but I'm sure you could get something that would work. I am in preocess of messing with a MOE Vert Grip and shaving the tabs off to see if I can get a fit directly to the rail. I will post pics...

I held it up in the position shown by the pictures without the MOE rail in place and it felt sweet...

For some, the AFG might be OK on the exisiting rail slots. It's a little far out there for my style but may work for others.

I have a LW mid-legth URXIII from the Silencertalk Lunchbox parts and the tabs on the MOE vert grip fit exactly perfect right in the slots on the bottom of the rail. Haven't seen the bottom of a III so not sure if they are the same.

I lobbied hard for the LW last year but now kind of wish we'd gone for this one in some ways.

The bottom of the III looks to be different from the Lunchbox rail. Only has holes on the bottom and no slots for the MOE tabs. Holes are not threaded like the side holes are...

Bumping the thread to keep related information together. Have been reading the comments on the URX III and it has certainly peaked my interest. However, I am looking for something a little different.

On my patrol SBR I am looking to simplify the forend setup while at the same time I would prefer to stick with KAC. Anyone heard any rumblings if the simplified and lighter design of the III will find it self in a carbine varient which I could use to lighten up and simpliy my Commando?

I have heard that there will be a Mid-length URX III sometime in the future, but nothing certain on the carbine length. For as short as it is, I don't see a huge advantage to doing the carbine length URX III - how much weigh are you really saving?

The 10.25" (ish) Midlength URX's work on the 11.5" bbl's with Low Profile Gas Blocks.

We are considering selling the 8" URXIII, but AAC is buying them as fast as we can build them, so not right now.

Thanks.

Are you still planning on making a 13" URX? I remember a while back you had said something about potentially making one to cover a 14.5" barrel.

Thanks Kevin. Will keep my eyes and ears open should they become available. Much preferring that option to DD in a Mk18 setup.

My absolute favorite rail. My only complaint is I wish the front sight was spring loaded instead of needing one hand to push the button and another hand pull the sight up.

is there a vendor here that will install a URXIII and remove my URXII and modify the gas block for URXIII. I have long arms and need just a longer rail thanks.

Robb at Virginia Arms will do it I am sure. The barrel wrench issue is a real downer with these rail systems.

So how does one attach a vertical grip on this? Otherwise, how is one supposed to get a good positive grip on the rail without blocking an attached PEQ?

You can add Magpul segments to the bottom handguards.

Awesome thread. Any of you guys who have been messing around with adding rail sections to your URX III, have you guys found a great solution. I believe KAC has come out with low profile rail sections compatible with the URX III's. Has anybody played with these? I haven't seen much about them as I believe they were available as of October 2012. Kevin B, is this correct? Thanks all.
