I would like to put a Magpul MIAD on my mws, but I was thinking a special piece was needed to fill the gap on the .308 ar's.

Is this correct? Any one have a link to the gap filling piece?

Thanks

You can find the Magpul MIAD Grip Wedge adapter for $3.95 at Magpul:

If your talking about a platform, for the rear take down spring to rest on your correct. I made one for mine by shaving down some of the plastic off the extra pieces, and epoxying them in the space. Once dry sand and file flat and your done.

I put one on my MWS with the adaptor and it fits perfectly.

When I did mine I didn't realize that Magpul had the adapter, I might have to look into it, in case the epoxy doesn't hold up?

Thanks for the replies and the link. I wasn't sure if that was actually needed, but it looks like I'll be needing one.

It's pretty much a must have.

I had made a block for mine, then I realized I was fucking around with a $2000 rifle over $5.

Will this device from Magpul be needed if one were to install the MOE grip on the MWS?? Thanks.

I did not have it on mine and there was a gap, with it the grip fits perfect. Markm caught this one for me. Just buy the $4.00 widget, it makes life good for your LMT

I had to trim the hell out of my wedge so the miad would fit correctly. There was a noticeable gap between the grip and lower below the selector when I used the wedge. I took a razor blade and trimmed parts of the wedge I felt were unneeded. Nothing changed cosmetically, but took a bit of rubber off. It fits flush now like it should.

Huskyfever,

Is that a surefire 762ss mount on your mws?

Did you have any trouble getting it installed or just screw it on? I am not sure if the profile of the mws barrel is correct for the surefire reflex muzzle devices.

I am really thinking of getting a surefire 762ss can, but I hate to send the barrel off to get worked on.

Yep it is

It screwed on like it should have. 2 shims + some torque and it was straight

m1ajunkie since you are the OP here I'll answer this.

I've installed a Surefire FH762K03 Flash Hider on my LMT .308 MWS and it installed with no modification to my barrel; I also installed a Surefire FH556-212A Flash Hider on my LMT 5.56 MRP CQB so that I can use my FA762K on both carbines. My new Surefire FA762K Suppressor should be arriving any day now

Glad to hear good luck with the Surefire FS/MB. I want to get one as well for a......well, you know......."future addition" to my MWS.

UBOATSNSR,
I looked on SF website and they sell the FH762k05 which is for the L129A1. Did you look into getting this FH?? It looks like the one that is indeed included with the Brit L129A1. OP, sorry to hijack.

Not really a thread hijack deuce71 as the OP might also be considering the Surefire FH762K05.

Yes, I too considered the Surefire FH762K05 as it's a nice looking flash hider, it's an effective design, and as you said it is OEM on the L129A1. I ruled the FH762K05 out as I figured that I'd end up dropping my LMT on the muzzle end some day, bending a tine just enough on the FH762K05 to cause a baffle strike when I fired it with the suppressor installed.

The FH762K05:

Yikes!! Drop your LMT MWS!!??? Oh horrors!!:D
You don't think the FH would be able to take a drop?? From 10+ feet, ok, I understand. But if dropped from a handhold to the ground? I think I will chance it. I doubt the Brits would have gone with it if they thought this might be a problem. But hey, who am I to say????:D My Local funshop has the K03 and just the K in stock.

Well I'm a pessimist (a pessimist is actually an optimist with experience) as well as being very accident prone.

Yeah, I hear ya, I have had my share of facepalms.
What scope is on your MWS??

UBOATSNSR

What scope is on your MWS??

It's a Hensoldt Fero Z24.

Hensoldt is the military division for Zeiss. The Fero Z24 is a fixed 4x with an illuminated range finding reticle and a top BDC turret for distance and a side turret for wind adjustment. The Hensoldt Fero Z24 is an incredible scope, the only drawback is its use of a STANAG base necessitating my use of an A.R.M.S. #7 scope mount, not my first choice in mounts. My Fero Z24 came attached to an HK claw mount as it was designed/produced for the HK G3/HK91 family. Once plentiful these scopes are now almost impossible to find.

Don't worry about hijacking the thread deuce 71, I am wondering about suppressor mounts as well so that discussion is welcome.

I have looked into the surefire 762k, but really like the 762ss reflex design better. I just wanted to make sure the mount would work without any issue.

M1a,
Ok, sounds good. I want a suppressor some day for my MWS as well. On the MWS pic thread, last page, someone put an SF MB on their rifle. Some else asked how the poster got it on the barrel. SF has the MB762-211C which the website fits AR-10, LR 308, etc... which looks very nice but is not the same one as the one over on the pic thread.
Also I like the FH762K05 which looks like the FH that comes with the L129A1.

Hello,
Could you elaborate a bit more on what you shaved off on your wedge?? I am having a similar problem and have narfed the rear takedown pin spring. I had a noticable gap on mine at the back where the takedown pin spring is located. There is NO hole for the rear takedown spring. Thanks.

I just cut out alot of the inside rubber and took a few mm's off the rear of the wedge and reshaped it so it would fit flush. Any of the rubber on the inside of the wedge that was touching the lower, I had to take out so it would fit right. I did cut out a little indent so the spring would stay straight.

Ok, Thanks. Yeah, I narfed both springs . I have begun working on it, carefuly shaving off bits of rubber. I am smoothing out the inner portion of the curved backstrap too to make it fit better. I may have to use a sliver of plastic or something for the rear takedown pin spring. That mother just won't stay straight. A small depression sounds good too. I also filed a little on the inside right where the grip connects to the receiver (where the screw protrudes) so as to make it slip on a little better. I think I narfed the springs because the grip was a very tight to fit. Thanks again.

Another option to consider for the take down detent and spring is to tap the hole with 4/40 tap and use a short set screw to hold the spring in place. You will have to clip a couple of coils off the spring to compensate for the length of the set screw.

Many do this mod on the AR15, and I did it on my two AR10's, which I believe have the take down detent hole location similar to the MWS.

I eventually got it on, lots of shaving of rubber. I looked carefully at the area that contacts the grip screw hole. There is a flat, thin raised area that holds the grip screw hole. I shaved a little, bit by bit in this area and that did the trick very well. As far as the takedown pin spring, I just made sure it was lined up as best as I could get it and slowly put the grip on...... it worked and the spring is straight. Works very well.
