LMT AR15 Range Report

I thought I would share my experience with my LMT AR15.
LMT AR15 SOPMOD (http://www.lmtstore.com/defender-standard-model-16-with-sopmod-stock.html)


I have shot:
700 rounds of Federal 55gr surplus with
0 misfires
0 misfeeds
0 jams of any kind
(regular maintenance every 100-300 rounds, D&H industries 30 round magazines)

And through a cmmg conversion kit:
700 .22 LR hollow points..a mixture of Winchester 555 and Federal Bulk with
1 misfire [winchester bulk]
0 misfeeds
0 jams
(bolt assembly, magazine, upper receiver, barrel&chamber cleaned once in between)


Just a data point, for any AR15/M4/M16 nay sayers, AK elitists, and of course, people interested in purchasing an LMT.

Thanks, I "think" I have narrowed down my hunt to this and maybe 1-2 other models. What kind of accuracy are you getting out of it and with what optics in .223/5.56.

What kind of .22 accuracy?

I haven't tried it from the bench yet. I've had it for 4-5 months, but I still haven't benched it..:suicide2:

I must say though, the machining is top notch. The bolt is silky smooth, and I like the extended charging handle latch that came with it. The stock is ROCK solid, absolutely no movement forward/backward while locked, and no movement side to side.

I read the .22 LR in a 5.56/.223 barrel will have a slightly larger group size, maybe double that of the 5.56/.223. Being able to shoot .22 LR is nice because I can use all of my local ranges. The only indoor rifle range here has a $36/hour fee, and you can only use american made hollow points or soft points @ $0.50 to $1.00 per bullet

I did notice consistent quarter sized groups indoors at 7 yards with Federal Bulk .22 LR Hollow Points, from the standing position. Last time I went to my outdoor range pit, I was able to hit a milk jug 4/5 times at 80 or so yards from the standing. Shooting .22 LR has significantly less felt recoil, but I personally think it has 1/3 to 1/2 the muzzle flip. It's a great training and plinking tool.

You can find this same model, with a standard stock for a few hundred dollars less.

Anyone who thinks M16/M4 variants are functionally inadequate is an obvious moron. You need not address their concerns.

It just struck me as funny. In my formative years in the firearms hobby, the AK and it's owner were looked down upon to a degree by AR owners for a number of reasons, stemming largely from there tiny cost in relation to an AR. The field is more level in that respect anymore I suppose. And we are all still looked down upon by guys with M14's as near as I can tell. :) Carry on.

After owning a MRP with Sopmod stock (and previously owning a standard collapsing stock) I wouldn't trade it for $200 savings. But mine is a long term keeper so it's worth it to me. It's as solid as a fixed stock but adjustable and has storage for NFA paperwork, batteries and a QD sling swivel port I use. Sorry to sidetrack.
