Greetings from NC.......I'm a newbie to this forum so I thought I'd ask a question for my first post. Anyone have any experience/opinions/thoughts about the S.P.O.T Red Dot Sights? Just picked up a KISS AR and would like to add optics for less than $200. I don't expect the rifle to see any rugged or hard use.

Better to ask over at TOS. They've got an ongoing review thread about the SPOT (aka GrantPoint :D anyone remember that?) that is about as punishing and enduring as any review I've ever come across. In fact it's pretty over-the-top. Read it and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for the reply, but what is the TOS?

If you guys are referring to The Other "AR" site, I've had no luck as their search function only allows me to go back 30 days :(

I've had one for about 2 years or so and haven't had any issues (granted, it's on a 10/22). It seems to be well-built and is definitely bright even in daylight. I wouldn't have a problem with suggesting it for non-"hard use"

Yes, it's probably been archived. The upshot from the review is that you can buy the SPOT with confidence in its performance for any recreational use.

We sell them and will say that for an entry level optic, they are good to go.

LOL - you know how that's gonna be twisted around as it gets quoted...
"C4 said that it's good to go as an optic on an entry gun"
"C4 said that it's been used on entry guns and it was good to go"
"it was used on entry guns after C4 was used to blow the door in and it was good to go"
....which will end up being "it's good to go on entry guns and even C4 couldn't blow it up during testing"
:D

Lol...that is great. Well I just ordered one, time to see how it stacks up compared to the beat to s*** M68 the Army issued me.

deco-
Think you'll find that it will not equal your beat to s*** M68. If the M68 still works, it'll be light years beyond this "... non-hard use...", "...recreational use...", been on a 10/22 optic.
MM-
You are so on target with that assessment. Well done.

Yeah thats what I figured, I'll give it a shot on the M4gery and if it sucks it'll find a home on my 10/22.

they work fine for the money,(159.99) but I would not want to depend on it in a dire emergency . put one on a RRA 16 inch that my 81 year old dad uses and he has had no problem desimateing the yote population . the funny thing is he was haveing a problem hitting them with open sights and now he rarely miss's.

Is the S.P.O.T. the same scope that ADCO is selling as their own Aimpoint lookalike?

Do not think so.

I bought a SPOT red dot to use at an 8-10 pistol/carbine training course I took a year or so back. I wanted to get an Aimpoint but was in a real hurry and the SPOT was available so I took it. The instructors said I was foolish to get it and that it wouldn't last the 3 day course. It did hold up but died a few weekends later at a 3gun match. Since then I've bought several Aimpoints and there is no comparison.
