Have had the new (and 1st) AR for about 5-6 weeks now, and am starting to realize that my minimalist preferences aren't going to hold up. Eyesight in the 6th decade just ain't what it should be:)

So.... here's the plan.

1) Keep the origininal front sight on the weapon (6920).

2) Ditch the carry handle and replace with Troy BUIS.

3) Install Aimpoint on the rail system that is on the weapon.

Will that work? Specifically - what type of mounts are necessary to bring the optics up to co-witness with the irons. If I'm understanding these new optics - I will need a mount of sometype if I get the Comp 3, but the Comp 4 already has them? Correct, or not???

TIA for any and all answers & suggestions.

If you mean the 1913 rail that is on the top of the receiver, underneath the carry handle, then yes, it will work. I recommend contacting Grant of GR tactical and getting a Comp C3 with Larue Tactical mount. Most folks don't need the M-series Aimpoint's durability. I know I will never be more than 15 feet underwater, I hope.

The LaRue mount will set you up perfectly. One of many nice things about that mount it that it will put your iron sights down in the bottom third of the optic. With them down there, you can concentrate on centering the dot without the distraction - but - they'll be quite usable should need them.

So usable in fact that I train with the Troy BUIS's in the up position because they don't get in the way of the Aimpoint Dot, and if the Aimpoint fails, the BUIS is ready to go...immediately!
