I am interested in the 512, but have a concern with everything I have read about the AA batts leaking. Would using lithium batts prevent this?

I use Energizer Lithium AA's in my 512. Bear in mind that lithium batteries can leak as well, but I've read some manufacturer's literature saying that when lithiums leak it is less corrosive and generally not harmful to the device. That having been said, I've never seen a lithium battery leak; so I don't know what the results may be like.

Regardless, I prefer lithium batteries because they are last longer, are less temperature sensitive, and have a much longer storage life. It doesn't hurt that they are also lighter.

I've had a few lithiums leak on me. I've been told that rapid changes in elevation/altitude can cause leaks. This seems to be the case from the four or five that I've had leak over the years.

Lithiums are the way to go on an Eotech.

That said, some decent battery companies will pay for damaged parts caused by their leaking batteries.

Something else to consider: If you are concerned about the leaking alkaline and don't want to pay the cost for lithiums, you can always run your Eotech on rechargeable batteries for range sessions and swap over to lithiums afterwards.

+1: I have used Energizer Lithiums in my 552 for the past year and have yet to have any problems.

Never used any lithium batts in any of my devices, just standard duracells. But you must take into account your enviroment also. I carry a small mini-mag Led model for general use along with my Surefire G-2. This past summer I tried to use the mini-mag and it would not turn on.Closer examination revealed a battery had poped open because of the heat (it was a 115Deg.) and destroyed the inside of the light. During the winter months this would not have been a issue.

Just FYI the Energizer batteries that shipped with my EOTech 512 leaked.....Anyone else have this problem and if so does EOTech take care of it?

Lawdog,

Please contact EOTech, you can have the sight returned and they will clean it up and send it back to you. there might be a small charge to the repair work.

Or you can basically clean up the contacts and see if the sight would return to function. you can find electric contact cleaner from Radio shack.

the leak happens with the alkaline batteries. once you get the sight back, you should pick up a set of Lithium from Radio shack.

I'm 26 and have never had or seen a battery leak. Is this a common occurrence and I've just been extremely lucky?

AA lithium batteries should not present you any problems. I run lithium AA's in virtually any device that takes them -- to include years of Eotech use.

I run Aimpoints now, but the lithium AA battery still goes in my 4seven tactical light for 100 lumens.
