optic suggestions

I have a stag ar that is used only at the range and for shooting ground hogs.I bought it to teach my 8yr old.What red dot would you recommend.If I have to I will spend the money on an aimpoint or eotech,but would like to find something a little more economical for this purpose.
I have a leupold,but would like to learn along with my son the red dot scope usuage.Thanks, Joe
