I've had my 10/22 for a couple of years now which has been sitting in my safe for almost the same amount of time. I've recently found that it's been going to the range with me more often...to the point that I realized that I've been bitten by the .22 bug. In its current standard sporter dress, it's been a decent rifle, however, I think that it's time to make some changes to make it more useful.

I found and bought the stock I've been wanting since seeing Grant's thread on his 10/22, a tan Hogue overmold and now need to decide on a barrel. Anyone have any recommendations for a 16" barrel? Particularly, any opinions on Green Mountain, Tac Sol, or even the carbon fiber Butler Creek? If it helps, I've initially been leaning toward a 16" fluted bull barrell, but I'm open to suggestions. I need to point out that high end barrels like Volquartsen, Clark and Shilen are cost prohibitive and therefore out of the running.

I have a Butler Creek stainless fluted barrel, and on another 10/22 a Tactical Solutions threaded fluted barrel. Of these 2 the Butler Creek is more accurate. Both are 100% reliable. I used Volquartsen Exact Edge extractors on both guns.

Thanks. How much more accurate are we talking about. I've read a couple comments on TOS about the Tac Sol barrels not delivering in the accuracy department.

In raw numbers I don't know. My Butler Creek easily shoots under 1/2" at 50yds where as the Tac Sol bbl shoots a little over 1/2" sometimes up to 3/4" at 50yds with the same ammo.

Butler Creek gun has a 3-9x 40mm Nikon
Tac Sol gun has a 2-7x 33mm Leupold
Both have Burris rings on Weaver brand bases.

I have a 2 TacSol barrels and get 1/2 inch groups and smaller at 50yrds, depends on the ammo i shoot.
I have a 16 inch threaded and The SBX barrel that is my best 10/22
Here is a pic of the SBX barrel with suppressor.

I only shoot my 10/22 with the 16inch stainless bull barrel at the bench
becouse its so heavy.

I've got a Whistle Pig (http://www.wpgbc.com/)barrel on my 10/22 and it's been pretty good to me (though it is a bit finicky on ammo).

I can relate to your ceiling cap on barrel cost outlay

In my opinion the best bang for the buck is the GM barrel

My favorite barrel has been the sporter profile GM 16" you can also get this
in fluted blue or stainless at 16.5" (this gives you a bit extra meat if you ever
felt the need to accurize the chamber)

There is a sizeable wt savings between the sporter profile and the bull if that matters
to you..

If the wt isnt going to be a factor than there are some internet bargains to be had
right from GM's website..

You should check out rimfirecental.com, nothing but 10/22 mods. IMHO the GM barrels are hard to beat. I have had two, both shot great. Just finished this build, Fajen stock and GM barrel, plus I did all the internal mods.
