I have 2 double star lowers that I need to build up for my daughters. How good are their parts? Thanks.

For the price I would still go with bcm. I think they are both around $400 and although the bcm does not come with a bcg the quality and reliability is very hard to beat. So far the palmetto rifles I have seen and fired have been decent. I think many of the issues you read about may be a result of growing pains which they will probably work out as they seem like a good company that's trying to build a solid reputation. For now though I still think bcm is still the best value for the money. Spend and extar $100 bucks for thier bcg and know that you spent it on top knotch equipment.

The kits are pretty nice.....would make great started rifles. Have assembled several and never had an issue. That's a great price on a kit too.

I was in a similar situation recently. Built my neice a starter rifle and was almost going with the palmetto kit. Ended up putting together one with an upper from Bravo company. All said and done it was only about $85 more than what I could have gotten from palmetto. I did use my own quad rail as the Bravo Company didnt come with hand guards.

So you're saying you bolt up an AR around a BCM upper for around $685???? Would love to see that build sheet...

I'm pretty sure he's talking about rifle kits. Not just the upper half of the rifle. On top of the $100 he'll have to spend money on a LPK and stock it.

OP: for what it's worth, I would set a budget. If its only $600 then The PSA rifle kits will be your best bet. Personally I've built 4 for friends and family. Each have at least 500rds through them with no issue. The intent of my build was low usage plinkers. Set your price point and figure out the end result for the rifles. I'm just assuming you don't plan on doing precision work or high round count classes since they're double star lowers

He has a lower already so all he would need is,

1. BCM 14.5 or 16 inch upper group from $399
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR-15-M4-Upper-Receiver-Group-s/29.htm

2. Palmetto State armory LPK $44.99
http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/417.php

3. Palmetto State Armory Stock kit $49.99
http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/1648.php

4. Bravo Company bolt carrier group $139
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Bolt-Carrier-Group-MPI-Auto-M16-p/bcm%20bolt%20carrier%20group%20auto%20mp.htm

$632.98

Oh, almost forgot. PM me and i will send you some run of the mill plastic handguards for free, or you can buy them from any of the two manufacturers for $15 to $20

Yeah, me too. I think he may be talking about the upper, I'm not sure. Nonetheless, the PSA rifles I put together totalled $525 after shipping with no FFL fees. All of them are KISS rifles but they get the job done .... They go bang

You could also go with a lower parts kit from..

$51 folks around here seem to speak highly of him.

If he were to buy the Bravo Company stuff together shipping would be approximately $12.95 for ups ground. Then ordering the Palmetto stuff together shipping is only $7 right now. This is to CT as this is where I live and am not sure where he is.

I've put several Palmetto kits together for friends. They are nice firearms and really nice parts. Their bolt carrier groups are properly staked and have MPI and HPT tests. I think their products are some of the best bang for your buck around.

Moved because this is not a Custom Build topic.

If the specs are to be believed it should be a decent kit...I have the
M4 kit orderd at 470 and a Spikes lower for 80...only other adder is a BUIS. so for roughly 625 total not bad...There is alway's room for more ;)

For clarity it needs to be pointed out that G&R's LPK that is $51 is without FCG or trigger guard. The full LPK is $94 and that is without grip.

This seems to be the consensus. If it's a fun gun I see no reason not to go with Palmetto. If it's gonna be used for duty, buy BCM.

I had a customer come in asking me if I could fix his AR. He showed me his Palmetto upper that had the FSB pinned on crookedly. I told him to just send it back to Palmetto but I guess he was too lazy/dumb to do so.

I've been researching for future builds and the reading I've done is that Aero Precision makes them for PSA, they also make the COP upper for Armalite, and it appears to be the same for Spikes Tactical. I don't know for a fact but that's what I've been able to gather. I'm planning on building one, driving the crap out of it and see how it holds up, I ain't scared:D Well it helps when you already have a Colt, I went spendy now I'm going cheap:)
Reread OP has two Double Star Lowers, my bad I misunderstood:)

My two PSA lowers were made by LW Schnieder. I know some came from Aero Precision.

+1

My PSA mid-length has about 500 rounds through it and not a single issue.

I know, I know, 500 rounds ain't dink, this is a fresh out of the box complete rifle. Rounds were shot over a 2 week period and I've done nothing to the gun other than load it and pull the trigger.

The jury is still out on long term durability, but so far I am very happy customer. For the money this is a great gun, IMHO it would be a great gun for more money ;)
