Very funny.
When Winchester ran Lake City, the seconds (rejected by .mil) on M193 were marketed as Q3131. But you know this.
When ATK (Federal) took over Lake City, their seconds were marketed as XM193. But you know this.
Winchester marketed IMI-contracted M193 imports as Q3131A. So at least there, the "A" had a significance. But you know this.
If it didn't mean something it would not be there. What is the real significance of the "A"?
If you don't know, just say, "I'll find out.";)

Nobody has a sense of humor these day.
I have heard that the letter "A" in this instance means that the ammo comes loaded on stripper clips. I could be wrong, but that is all I know.

Federal (Lake City) XM193 on Stripper Clips ::
Do you still have this in stock ?
Grant,
I am choosing to believe you. The "A" is for ASSKICKING!
Ammo is ammo is ammo. Cheaper is better but all good as long as it goes bang, hits roughly where I aim it, and works the action every time.

What does the "A" in XM193A signify?
Here are a couple peices to your puzzle, I have 2 different kinds of LC 5.56 XM193
One is marked XM193C and it is American Eagle Tactical brand
other is marked XM193F and is in Federal plain brown box
Both are LC stamped with date on the brass

I know what the "C" stands for... its commercial, hence the black American eagle box. As far as the "F" marked stuff goes i have no clue. and the X as mst people know denotes that it is either factory seconds, rejects and what have you or extra product that surpasses the quantity outlined in the contract

My buddy said he had corresponded directly with Federal Cartridge and was informed that all of the M193 ammo is the same. The 'X' now denotes production overrun, and the suffix denotes the packaging, (e.g. bulk, stripper clips, etc).
Technically, this is second-hand information, so take it for what it's worth.
The suffix just denotes the packaging. That ammo is not made by federal. This is first hand.

Is the Lake City munitions plant under contract to produce this ammo for Federal?

Ask in the Ammo forum or PM me. I did not mean to derail Mr. Grants Dealer thread. Sorry.
