Make Ready with Paul Howe: Intro to Exterior Movement
Paul Howe is a high-risk training instructor that served 20 years in the US Army, ten of those in Special Operations. He served as a Tactical Team Leader and Senior Instructor while assigned to Army Special Operations. During his tour in special operations he was involved in several combat actions. One of the most notable was the battle of Mogadishu that was later portrayed in the motion picture Black Hawk Down.
For this video we take you to the CSAT (Combat Shooting and Tactics) training facility in Nacogdoches, TX where Paul introduces you to Exterior Movement. After a thorough review of equipment, Paul demonstrates single person, two person, and team movement. He reviews clearing corners, the tactical flare, room penetration, CQB medical, the surgical rifle drill and the SUL movement drill.

Looks like a well done foundational team movement video. Why is this being limited to law enforcement and military only?
Every year home invasions and teams of armed attackers get more common. this type of group movement is becoming an important technique for families, self sufficient communities as well as for individuals wishing to expand thier knowledge and skillset.
I'm kind of offended... dont former military/civilians/instructors/security need to know this stuff too?
Instead of emailing or faxing an image of our ID card or credentials (both a big no no for my organization) would an email from a .mil address suffice?

Great question. I'd also like to know the answer, as this is pretty much a DoD-wide policy.

Unless you have a need to know I would say no. As a current LEO we have a hard enough time staying ahead of the bad guy and I don't want them to get any up on me.

Is there another way to provide credentials?

The information can be gotten from other sources, but it would be nice for responsible citizens and trainers to have this available. remember most innovation comes from the civilian side and outside of onerous systems designed to keep everyone the same. Cutting off the flow of information to civilians means eventually reducing your own source of supply.
As to keeping ahead of the bad guys, IME you guys seem to be lagging most of the time anyway. over dependence on technology, legal infrastructure and fear are the main weakness. Seems like cops/administrators are their own worst enemy half the time.

What determines a "need to know"? Just because someone doesn't have their secret squirrel ninja card doesn't mean they don't have a need to know. In reality the majority of LEO's have as much use for this information as the everyday citizen does.
The vast majority, if not all, of the techniques shown in that video can be learned by Joe Sixpack taking classes from several very well known SME's who frequent this forum.

Faxing a copy of a mil id is actually a federal crime. I hope they accept an email from .mil too!

True. But the people who put it together put their own restrictions and if they only want mil/leo to have it they have that very right.

Fixed part of it for you. The problem with administrators is that either they have never been there or things have changed greatly from when they worked the street that things they did are no longer a viable option. They also have to deal with budgets and every APE (A Political Emergency) case that comes along. We have a huge problem with lawyers who Monday morning quarterback decisions made in seconds. It can be unnerving when from day one you are told if you screw up you can loose your freedom.

Is a DD214 sufficient?

Jack-O: Sorry, but we are honoring the requests of the instructors we film. If an instructor wants to restrict a video due to the subject matter then we stand behind that.
NextGhost: That is fine. Thanks.
Jfkudla: Yes, an email from your work email address is fine.
Submariner: Yes
