Mr. McNamara what handgun do you prefer when a handgun is you primary weapon?

Put any pistol in my hands and I will make it work. I train regularly with a P2000, P226, M-9, G17, XDm and 1911.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a love affair with my 1911. I have carried one as a primary on several different occasions and have put it into use while carrying it as a primary.

There seems to be a general disdain for the XD series among certain groups. What do you like about them, what do you think are its shortcomings?

Follow on question (especially after seeing you shoot it in the Florida class last year), details on your favorite 1911? Do you CCW the same gun?

side note for the other readers, Mac can flat out SHOOT. He was getting groups better than anyone else on the line, and we had some very good shooters in the class, and he made it look easy.

Thanks Rob.
I do CCW the same platform but carry others as well. It depends on the weather, which dictates the dress or the occasion which dictates the dress and possibly alters the situation.
I CCW everything from G19 to 1911.

I have a P2000 which I'm struggling to learn to shoot. I was a little surprised to see that you have one in your training rotation. I was curious if there were any idiosyncrasies you've come across specific to this pistol ie. favorable/unfavorable bullet weights, +P or not, holster/sight issues, etc.

Thanks for your forum participation.

Hmmm. Pardon my cryptology but I train with one because I occasionally work with guys who's duty pistol is the P2000.

Not the easiest out-of-the-box platform to work with. Not as intuitive as other pistols either. They are equipped with the Law Enforcement Modification known as Combat Defense Action or lite (6.5ish lbs) Double to Double trigger. Another training issue is that downward activated paddle style mag release.

Some of the pros are as follows; We put a lot of rounds through these platforms during a training week in some pretty adverse weather conditions and I've seen only a few crap the bed. The guys who train regularly with them can achieve .5 second splits between shots (which for a double-double is pretty good)and when I push guys to 50 yards, the guys who know how to apply the fundamentals can hit fairly well at that distance.

As far as idiosyncrasies go, too much would be lost in translation. Sign up for one of my classes and bring it along. I will have you drilling tacks and BLAZING with it!

Mac,

Regarding the P2000, do you prefer the LEM trigger or the DA/SA version?

Not qualified to answer since I own only the LEM. Sorry.
