If your upper has a standard front sight post, you will need rings that put the scope higher to clear the front sight post. If your upper does not have a front sight post, you only need a mount high enough to clear your 42mm objective and get proper eye relief.

Ideally, you want rings that will put the center of the optic between 1.3"-1.4" above the rail for a 1" tube or between 1.4" and 1.5" above the rail for a 30mm tube. You do not need to get the optic above the FSP, as it will disappear and at most be a shadowed area @3x and should not be noticeable on higher power settings. What you really need to account for is proper eye relief for your cheek weld. This may be hard to accomplish with rings and you may want to consider a cantilevered one piece mount to get proper eye relief while keeping the optic mounting only on the upper receiver rail. I'd recommend taking a look at American Defense Manufacturing, LaRue or Bobro mounts. If these are out of your budget, then consider either the Nikon M-223 mount or Burris P.E.P.R. mount.

I have both an ADM Scout-X and a couple of PEPR QD mounts. The PEPR is considerably cheaper ($80 for screw on and $90 for QD at Primary Arms). ADM has the advantage that you can change to 30mm rings if you change scopes. New ADM rings are over half as expensive as a PEPR though. Cheapest I can find ADM rings is $65 at Midway.

I vote for the Burris mount as well. I used one on my Carbine and have ordered another for the rifle.. They work great.. Ron

That's a great mount for the money. I've seen a knock off of this but haven't tried one yet. I'll try and find a link for it.

Lets see if this works.

.

The PEPR's, that I have used, have been fine, especially for a mount that is made in Texas ("China", Texas, that is) ;).
I've had good repeatability, if I carefully torqued them down the same each time.

To save a little, you could also try the Burris XTreme Tactical Rings. They are all about the same except the PEPR gives a little cantilever, if your scope and you need it. For the XTreme Rings you'll need either the High or Extra High...don't think that you can get by with any lower.

Ideally, I'd like a Bobro or an ADM but until that day...

But maybe it's just me...

True.. The China part is the only thing I don't like about it.. Ron

Give the new Leupold Mark 2 consideration as well. I have one and they are very well made. It will put your optic at the correct height.

Fixed front sight base is pretty much a non issue with magnified optics since the focus point is well down range.
