SGs are more effective than HGs to elicit an immediate cessation of hostility.
Their length, weight, and capacity make them better suited to stationary use.
I personally prefer an SBR for moving around, but I will use whatever is available to my advantage.
I also believe that in a stationary position like the home, a shotgun is going to be a very effective tool. In my experience , a semi-auto shotgun with the proper stock has manageable recoil and the first shot is no harder to aim than an 18" AR. Followup shots are a second longer but I imagine that extra time is absolutely mitigated by the exponentially more powerful impact of a full 12g load. As little as I have trained with a shotgun, I do not find it challenging in the least to quickly put 9 slugs center-mass at 50 yards and make consistent torso shots at 100 yards.
I keep a Glock 20 and a 12 g coach gun loaded with #4 buck near me. My wife has a BHP .40 and a .410 coach gun, I don't ever expect to need the Galil, but it's there in case a platoon of al qaeda attack us.
