Remington 700: Scope objective too close to barrel?
I am curious about opinions on what would be too close for scope to barrel distance. I have a Rem 700 20" barrel with a set of Nightforce 1.125" rings on a Nightforce 20MOA base. This setup is too high for a good cheek weld and general comfort while prone. Currently, I have 0.445" distance from the bottom of the sun shade to the barrel. If I were to go with the low Nightforce ring set at 0.885 height, this would leave me with a 0.17" of space between. Is this too tight and should I go with the 1" height rings leaving 0.32"? Or am I good to go with the low rings? The scope is a Vortex 4-16x50. The rifle still has the factory Hogue stock but I'm about to order a B&C A2 stock to replace it. Bottom line I'm looking for the right combination to get the best repeatable check weld.
Thanks.
